"Impeachment in the United States is the process by which a legislature (usually in the form of the lower house) brings charges against a civil officer of government for crimes alleged to have been committed". You can't impeach someone who is no longer a member of government, you can try and charge them for the supposed crimes that they committed to bring about the impeachment or you can try and impeach them if they do run and win office again. Impeachment != Criminal charge. And I'm English, so I really don't give a crap for or against Trump.
@asatowne52343 жыл бұрын
@@xenoborg007 I hate to be a stickler but there's nothing in your quote that says the charges have to be filed while said official is still the official. You can charge someone for Murder when they were an accountant and they can't say "But I'm retired now" and the case is dropped. Also, he's being impeached, so chances are people who get paid a lot to know how the law works have probably done more research than what can just be looked up on Google. And I'm American, so I really don't give a crap for or against Brexit. Cheers.
@xenoborg0073 жыл бұрын
@@asatowne5234 Again Reread, these dumb analogies people keep using are moot, being charged for an actual crime and being impeached are two entirely different things. Impeach is to remove you from office while you are STILL IN OFFICE it's not to charge you with a crime, impeachment is brought about usually because of a crime. THEN if successful or not (impeachment) you can still be actually charged with said crime. No one's saying the accountant can't be charged for murder, but you can't remove the accountant from his job when he has already left said job. The only reason these people are even bothering is because they want to ban Trump from ever becoming president again, impeachments take quite a while to do, they can't be done in the single week left in office. So once again Impeachment charges are not the same as actual criminal charges, one is basically to get you fired from your job, why they use the word charge who knows.
@xenoborg0073 жыл бұрын
@@asatowne5234 They were going to impeach Nixon, but he resigned from office so there was zero point, because he was no longer president, and subsequently I think he had all the criminal charges dropped later on. So, if a criminal changes his job, is he no longer going to be arrested?
@hawlitakerful3 жыл бұрын
Impeachment is not a criminal trial. It's a political process. And it is a bit of an open question while there are people who have been impeached after leaving office there are also some where the impeachment stopped because they were no longer in office. In general: That's more like if my employer sends me to a sexual harassment course for some misconduct but i leave the company before that. The person i did this to can still press civil and or criminal charges depending on the situation. So your question about not getting arrested misses the point a bit.
