Fabian schar was so unbelievably good last season he can't be replaced unless it is a player of the highest quality. Schars distribution from the back all year was top notch. Most underrated player last season in the league

Our budget is not blown as it’s a 6 year contract so the 70 million will be split across 6 year which would be 11.6M of our FFP budget used this year but you have to take into account we will be paying for the likes of Bruno Botman etc every year also

Very harsh on Schar. His dribbling out, his passing and his shooting is very important for us. He and botman switch the play brilliantly and he’s had a few assists with this passing. He has an excellent strike and free kick on him too, I think he’s a lot harder to replace than you suggest. The suggestion of Bella Kotchap is a completely different type of player looking at his passing stats. This would alter how we play massively.

He is very underrated. He was one of our standout players for the majority of the season. At the end of the season he did get beat for speed a few times, resulting in a couple of goals against us, but that was probably just fatigue kicking in, after all its a long season for a guy in his 30s. We do need to bring in a understudy, but him, and Botman, will be our starting centre backs next season, no doubt about it imho.

yeah, but it's just because he is old and there's no cover. It was even suggested in the video that they can keep the starting partnership for now, it's more about having any kind of depth there, and bringing in someone younger for the future

Schar is kind of irreplacable, he has a sensuous long ball, he can cross play, and he loves a strike outside of the box, on top of that he's an adept defender. I think Burn is a weakness, because he's never used as an overlapping player, everytime he made a run this season the team ignores him and defenders knew he wasn't really a threat. Burn could be rotated as another CB if nufc get another LB. but I cant complain really, tonalli coming, and CL, HOWAY its like a dream

Burn has struggled at times especially against faster wingers he's quite guilty for dragging people back and giving away fouls in dangerous areas, that said he's done outstanding considering it's not his natural position and I've felt pretty safe knowing he's on the pitch for most games this season

But there's benefits to having there too, the aerial threat from set plays too. OK I think you are correct about Arda Güler. He reminds me very much of a young Peter Beardsley at his very best. Incidentally, as a school kid I used to play football with Peter next to the Fusilier Pub. His natural ability was there to be seen at a very early age. Quick, with a low centre of gravity he could sell a dummy and change directions in a split second. Then play the ball between an opponent's' legs for fun. Gaining a yard or two before slotting it between the jumper goal posts.

A good episode. The problem with Bella-Kotchap is he is a limited centre-back. Worse, he is a poor long-range passer. Schar's most important attribute is his long passes which we use to start our attackers (it's why teams don't press us so much for fear of a long ball over the top). We aren't a ball possession team, we are direct and will try and get into the box as quickly as possible rather than pass the ball side-side. A key weapon in that is Schar's long balls - if you look at one of the players we've been linked with, Anderson (from Palace), he profiles very similarly to Schar and either long passes or progressive passes (like Kim Min Jae) are what we want in a RCB. My sensible pick would be Scalvini from Atlanta - probably available for €35m+ and will be as good as Bastoni. At just 19, plenty of resale value and is possibly a future world-class defender - has a higher skill ceiling than Botman.

Any CB cover/replacement is going to need to have good distribution. Newcastle won't always be playing against a low block and vertically was a really stong part of the style last season. Hard pass on Bella Kotchap i think.

Not sure about going for a CB over a LB...we already have Burn, who is a CB thats been filling a LB role (and doing a great job)...getting a better LB (like Tierney) allows us to use him as rotation in either a LB or CB as needed, which I think is the more sensible transfer option as it improves our options in two positions with one transfer

The most pressing and sensible needs are well known to be a versatile holding CM a natural LB and versatile attacking midfielder. Not sure why you've gone for RW and CB when those are lower on the priority list. Especially replacing Schar one of last seasons best CBs ahead of an out of position Burn at LB... Even so, CB options highly unlikely, the sensible options are more likely Tapsoba, Adarabioyo, etc.

if you see last season, Newcastle was actually dominant in many games, but ended up draw. What they lack is creativity, only Guimaraes are top players to give quality passes to the box, Newcastle really need that creative players to unlock a low block defense, and i think Draxler would be a decent signing, he is no where to be seen right now, but if Eddie can revive his career like Joelinton, Newcastle would get their own De Bruyne, as Draxler was that good.

I'd say instead of replacing Schar, focus on Burn. Burn is an excellent type of player to rotate in and provide height and depth, and replacing his position should be a huge focus. Adding in a player to replace almiron and murphy on the right side is very much needed as well... Those two are great to rotate in and provide depth in one way or another, but probably arent the types you should be relying on there. Tonali should be great long-term though. Excited to see how he develops with Bruno and Joe

Tbh i dont think Güler is ready for the prem. He has so much talent and has the potential to be one of the best but physically it will be a problem. Im a Fener fan and i’ve seen him against big physical defenders and the prem is full of them. I think like you said; benfica or dortmund will be a better option for him now. I would love to see it work in the prem tho… he is just one of those players who make you fall in lovewith the game

Man screw this - the window has been pretty boring so far and it needs spiced up... I think Tifo should make a series (in conjunction to sensible transfers) of un-sensible transfers. I want to see the Honey Nut Monster playing as a right sided centre back - nothing is getting past that brute. The cereal chemistry will be in full flow as he links up with the Coco pops monkey in midfield, being able to find the creative passes and literally climb up on the opposition in the box. Pray tell, who's playing upfront? Of course it's Terry the Tiger... Lightning pace and deadly in front of goal. Get them managed by Kellogg himself and you've got a top 6 team easily... Couple good windows and you're looking at a title challenge!

LW is NOT a priority. Not just because of Gordon who will now have a full pre-season with Howe under his belt and be ready to kick on, but because of Joelinton. Last season all of his best performances were on the left of our front 3, and as soon as we have sufficient depth in centre of midfield he will be our go-to, first-choice left winger, and you'd have to spend £120m+ to improve on him. We could happily sell ASM and do absolutely splendidly with Big Joe, Isak, Gordon and Anderson covering the left forward position. RW is a much bigger priority as Almiron has already reverted to the mean and as much as I love Murphy and expect lots of contributions from him this season we need some real quality on that side to balance Joelinton or Isak on the other wing.

I think it's quite likely that we switch to a 4-2-3-1 in the upcoming season. Bruno and Tonali in the double pivot and playing with a ten makes a lot of sense when you look at who we have and who we've been heavily linked to. Szoboszlai or Maddison, Gordon and Isak/ASM or whoever we get as a new wide forward could be immense in that three behind the striker.

I believe we must try to sign Cancelo and move Trent to midfield, along with MacAlister he's gonna be amazing. Then we need a world class CB and just hope that our front 3 will have a good season.

⁠@@georgemanizeI think Trent is better as an inverted rb like he’s been for the latter part of the season. I think reworking the midfield would be the best option. There’s links with Konè and Thuram which, if possible, seem really really promising. It’s not ideal for who Liverpool are as a club, but with a full season of development and valuable minutes they’ll probably end up VERY promising. That’ll probably allow for enough for you guys to get a world class CB as well, maybe not though.

@@jaygotgame1731 Thuram seems like an amazing signing too. I hope we get him. There is talk about Van de Ven from Wolfsburg, he is far from a world class CB but along with VVD he could learn a thing or two, he is an exciting prospect.

I like TIFO IRL and I like TIFO. However, maybe it's been said before, but they aren't very tonally similar. Not only is one in real life, but the personalities are also quite large. Sometimes I'd like a sensible transfers episode with the calmness of the original TIFO.

true but we do have to be proactive about the right side with Schar not getting any younger, bringing in a young CB to provide cover and competition would be ideal, difficult signing a to young defender without guarantees of first team football though I guess

I don’t think he’s really a winger, more a 10/ACM. Also, the video said they didn’t care about what the rumours were, just sensible signings. Personally, I think Szoboszlai looks great, but I’m not sure it’s as a like for like Almiron replacement.

@@Aceofspades2345 not sure why you'd say "think". The positional data is very clear. He's a right winger who can play 10 or 8, but the vast majority of his time is RW. He's a massive upgrade on Almiron, similar to Tonali over Longstaff. Whether we get him 🤷‍♂️
