I worked with a tutor for 3 years and am very proficient in Spanish. This was the clearest, most direct explanation I have ever encountered. In fact, I am going to ask my tutor (now a friend) why she never made this as clear. Thank you.

Gracias otra vez Paul.

Great channel, and I hope things are going well for you back in the USA, but I would love a tutorial on 'los verbos de cambio' - hacerse, volverse, convertirse, lograr a ser - all those verbs that mean 'become' in English.

mi maestra dice que "por" puede significa "because of / inspired by" pero "para" significa "on behalf of / in support of".

Another tidbit to remember, support/soportar can be false cognates in some contexts. In Spanish to say you are providing support to someone (as in the context in your post), the more appropriate word is “apoyar”. “Soportar” in this context is more like “put up with”. Also if referring to financially supporting someone it could be “apoyar” or “mantener”. For support in the sense of physically supporting something, “soportar” works well, as does “sostener”.
@JuanDorrego-w8p
@JuanDorrego-w8p 4 ай бұрын
Para entender las preposiciones: A quien no entienda Ante quien no entienda De quien no entienda Desde quien no entienda En quien no entienda Entre quien no entienda Hacia quien no entienda Hasta quien no entienda Para quien no entienda Por quien no entienda Según quien no entienda So.

A Spanish speaker here. Paul's Spanish accent is pretty much like the neutral American Spanish one, which is mostly Mexican. That accent was made up to dub movies and perhaps I hear him like that because Paul speaks too clearly. Both, Spanish and English too. I wonder if there is a "neutral" North American accent
@jamesprice4647
@jamesprice4647 4 ай бұрын
There pretty much is - the accent you often hear on TV and you cannot tell whether the speaker is from the East or West Coast. Working class and rural accents are often more pronounced. I love Vinny's accent in 'My Cousin Vinny' (yutes).
@menotq
@menotq 4 ай бұрын
Usual the North East with the exception of Boston & local folks from Maine there isn't a strong accent. I would guess Paul is from that area???
@zulynava4059
@zulynava4059 3 ай бұрын
If you can tell that someone has a Mexican accent then it’s not a neutral accent. Neutral means that you can’t tell. Mexican dubbing started kinda “neutral”, but then they started adding the ‘wey’, shido, que padre, etc. and it’s no longer the Español Latino that the options in a menu for movies says.

Gracias Paul!
@JuanDorrego-w8p
@JuanDorrego-w8p 4 ай бұрын

Great video! I had never understood the difference before watching the video. I appreciate the simple rule. Now that I understand it, I find myself using the verb more. One question about Sentir vs Sentirse + adverbs: No necesito alguien que me haga sentir mal (+ adverb). Is this Sentir because somebody is making me feel badly? The "me" in my example is not reflexive (therefore Sentir)? Thanks!

Ok now what about "I feel like eating!"... Lol, tener ganas, right? I've told myself if there's a "like" after "I feel" it probably is the tener ganas not sentirse (edited to change dancing to eating after the correction)

Feel like muchas veces va seguido de un IF detrás, de ahí q el condicional encaje bien I want to play = tengo ganas de jugar (expresando deseo) quiero jugar (expresando certeza) I feel like playing = me pondría a jugar

Para mi, I feel like playing es una perfecta traducción de "tengo ganas de bailar".
@JuanDorrego-w8p
@JuanDorrego-w8p 3 ай бұрын

@@JuanDorrego-w8p I guess I picked the wrong example in using "I feel like dancing" but for certain there are MANY times I want to say "I feel like...." doing something and my tutors correct me to use tener ganas, not sentirse (which was the point of my original comment). I'll edit out dancing & make it "I feel like eating" = tengo ganas de comer
