We don't get any codes, we just need to launch the game and registration confirmation for DT will appear. The mount campaign doesn't need DT expansion btw

As a Windows player this has been the way it has worked for the last 2 expansions. Registering the pre-order code does flag your account and you'll have access to the expansion for two weeks after release.

Users on Windows, Mac, or Steam will need to register the full Dawntrail registration code before this time to continue playing after the early access period." This is not "2 weeks" this is 1 week.

I have never understood the convoluted way SE manages accounts. Purchase a WOW expansion and when it goes live you are good to go

WoW actually used to function under the same system up until WoD. You needed each expansion registered in order to play it. Was also intended that most people bought physical copies, but it was the early 2010s.

@@cattysplat Yes. Now it's all downloaded. SE still treats us like we are buying a physical copy, even if we are not. FFXI has a code and password for the game, an SE ID and password. Then each character has a content ID and another ID on top of that. No wonder all my gear was lost after I had a credit card problem. What a mess.

Nobody think that it's difficult, that's not the point. The point is that Square Enix make you go through a process that ALL other MMOs have an automated system for.

You need two because one registers the edition, whether it's regular or collectors edition and the second one is for the preorder items. The one that actually matters is the edition because that actually registers the game, whereas not everyone will have get the code for preorder items anymore. Edit: to be fair, the preorder stuff is treated as optional items, and SE has you register optional items with codes. I would rather they have some other way of doing it though, like with a QR code. Over the last 2 weeks I've had to use the system numerous times for preorder bonus, mountain Zu, 3 seperate times for the twtich drops...

There are some countries and states that require software refunds, sometimes with special provisions. So theoretically, in these areas, you request a refund after redeeming preorder, then you will not have access to full version. The system is implemented for all users because of this.

tl;DR im afraid of them rebuilding the entire mog station from scratch and entire PC base being accidentally barred from playing for a different reason but similar to the visa cardissuer problem except for console-specific rights authentication systems, either way separate codes may be unavoidable: on one hand, you'd have the preorder that gives the expac in full plus the code for the collectors edition itemsand/or preorder bonus item, or 4 different code teirs processed based on weather its preorder, preorder with collectors, non preorder with collectors, or base only no preorder thats all short of completely rebuilding the entire mogstation system from the ground up and causing another payment address scale disaster, or making PC players use the xbox game pass ecosystem of PSN ecosystem to manage edition licenses on PC

The pre-order is just the code for early access. It doesny differentiate from collectors or regular, which is why they require the second code.

What happens if you don't out the new, main code?? Easy You cannot access DT zones So, if you have your character in a new zone, you would be able to access your character until you put in the code. If you have your character oustide a DT zone, you will be able to keep playing, just not go to a DT zone. Ya, SE is dumb when it comes to these things, but I'm used to this crap since ARR so for me it's normal and easy now. Also, you have until Friday (July 5) to figure this out and put in your code. GL

I found a trick to figuring this out. By reading the text provided and following the instructions laid out in the message I received I was able to figure out what needed to be done. Stay strong, everyone, as this took me an entire 3 minutes to accomplish.

@@Tobeh ​ you're making excuses for a company that should have realized by now that their horrid UX is the point of quite a few customers just throwing in the towel and saying "screw this," and skipping the purchase altogether. lots of people don't bother reading, cause they're used to an easy system at other online shops -> SE should realize this and streamline it - except SE doesn't. it's their loss at the end of the day, but they surely don't need people like you missing the point and making excuses for them. genuinely think about what you're doing. you took time out of your day to make unpaid excuses for a company that should do better and can do better (as we can know by checking other examples), instead of saying "yeah, this is unnecessarily convoluted. just make it 1 step for everything and nobody would complain." strange mentality that you got there. next time, keep your horrible and wrong opinion to yourself.
