There was so much connection for me in this episode. I moved away from my husband of 20+ years, 11 years ago. We met up once a week or so during that time.... mostly amicably, but sometimes just barely. During covid he developed some heavy-duty circulatory issues and I knew he needed my help so I moved back in. Fortunately I'd gone through some counselling and done my own research to improve myself during our time apart..... to stop being a total empath, to stop accepting the scapegoat position, to love myself enough to believe in myself and who I was in the world.... to assert my own needs, set boundaries...... pretty comprehensive, but I had some great help in my new community over the past four years. His health issues have made him a somewhat softer person so we were both starting at a new place. He actually needs a stronger person now, and bingo, that's me. It's not always a bed of roses. When I assert myself with him, it can be painful to wait a few days for him to absorb what I'm saying. But I've learned the self-talk that says I'm entitled to say my truth in relationship, and I sense he's come around to respecting that new part of me! Who knew? I so appreciate the affirmations for my situation that you offered here, Alex. I take affirmations wherever I can find them these days :) but I've grown to really respect everything you bring. I've learned so much from you over time. Thanks a million! I continue to tune in.

Katie's age is significant. ? Menopausal putting added stress on everything. ?Oestrogen lack but therapy is really helping her to sort out real issues and get her to self - care and better manage challenges. Excellent videos. Thank u.

Spot on. Well done Katie thank you for sharing what has happened to you and the paths/progress you are making. Alex i so wish both my husband and I had access to someone like you, so broken and lost have we become. You know your ‘stuff’ . You listen and understand and enable people to better manage themselves, life and relationships.

I would suggest you have a look at couples therapists in your area. If you're both on board to start to heal anything in your relationship, there will be a therapist that's a good fit for you. Good luck with it all. x

Katie is everything for me. I feel that Alex...being a man is missing a key element...perimenopause and menopause.

How do you think Katie would receive a comment from a man - her therapist - that maybe her emotional state is partially due to hormones? That is a very slippery slope … Katie knows her body more than he and she is the one who has to manage that with her GP. It is not his purview! The work he has helped her with has been so beneficial and you make this comment?!

Exactly. He's been in his parents spare room prior to this, witholding financial support & encouraging the kids in the "Mom's crazy" narrative when she asks them to pick up their mess. And gaslighted her for 20 years when she tried to put in discipline & boundaries etc .
