Good you explain to a dummy like myself. I understand how you are breaking it down and explaining each but my brain won’t allow me to understand. Could you just tell me around about where each setting should be. Such as the gain, should I turn it all the way to the right, halfway, or a quarter. Same as the lpf and subsonic. Should I have those turned a quarter, half, or full. I hope I’m asking the question where you can understand.

I've been wiring car audio since the late 80s. I think it's about damn time that all amp manufacturers finally start using tactile potentiometers across all amps in increments of 5hz. It would be way easier rather than giving a silly random range and not being able to tell accurately what it's currently at.

All LPF is is setting a crossover at that specific frequency. Amplifiers usually contain a 12DB/octave slope, don’t overthink it. If you want your sub to stop playing music around 60hz, cool. Set it to 60. Just because a crossover is set to 60 doesn’t mean the speaker rolls off at 60, the slope usually starts before the desired frequency. Most set it at 80 because that’s where midbass is supposed to pick up. There is never a “correct” way to set it, mine is set to 55 in mine because my midbass picks up at 55hz and is confirmed through an RTA. All in all, there’s never a correct way. Just need to find where the subwoofer either stops playing at in a ported/band pass box or where you want it to stop.

Setting LPF to where midbass/mids kick in or are crossed over is one way to do it the other way is to set mono amp gain first, turn volume to max listening volume then turn LPF up until you start hearing mids come thru the sub or when it starts sounding muddy. Hi Jacob, if you are setting the LPF on the stereo , just try setting the amp to max (200hz). @Kpaceguy4 жыл бұрын
You DO NOT set both amp and head unit... home theater, car audio, nothing. If the head unit cuts off at 80hz to the sub at -24db per octave, it then sends the cut off to the amp at -24db and then your amp cuts it off more at whatever -db it has built in.. meaning your doubling the cut off... so now your subwoofer crossover isn't ROLLING off, it's completely DROPPING out compared to the rest of frequencies. There will be no blend with the highs and mids and will cause a gap between them..especially if you're doing the same incorrect method on your highs and mid amp. Pick ONE place to set your crossover and open the crossover completely on the other device.

You can fool around and see if you can get the sound to be clear that way or keep the hu crossover on around 63 to 100hz on the subwoofer channel and on the amp, keep the dial around 10 to 11 oclock. @simonmessina89164 жыл бұрын
All you need to do is turn the lpf all the way to the right to the highest lpf settings eg 200hz. You then use the headunit xover eg 80hz -24db. If you try and match them you will cascade the slopes eg u will get -48db slope. You turn the lpf to the highest on amp so it’s out of range when it reads from the headunit. You won’t class slopes. In a nutshell turn lpf all the way to right use the headunit lpf do not match digital is the best way.

I use my head units high pass cause my 4ch cut off is to low with no adjustments but I don’t use the low pass on my head unit for my sub amp cause I heard/read the less you use your decks options the less it interferes with a clean signal and doesn’t consume as much current and I don’t use an eq I keep everything on my deck at 0 my sub out as well unless I’m listening to regular music not bass tracks like I normally bump. I need a little guidance on slopes. My amp for subs has a 6 and 12db . My pioneer head unit has crossovers - running off head unit power- rear door 3 way 5.25 coaxials and xover is 6 to 24. Up front, again running off head unit to a 12 db passive crossover and set of components and again 6 to 24 db. The sub xover is 6 to 36bd slope. Sub range is 20hz to 300hz. Both sets of mids/highs are 67hz to 20k or something. Both the components up front and coaxials in back have a 0 or 3db boost feature. Oh, and the mids and highs are JBL and rated 5-270 w 3 ohm. So my pioneer head unit pushes quiet nicely. Just adding that before someone gives me grief about not having the highs on an amp lol. So recommendations? On. The front set of components, is 12 db in the passive and 12 on head unit the same as running 24 db slope on rear speakers..? Just clarifying that concept. What really get me is the phase issue and making a "hump" if my slopes are wrong.

And if your amp has low pass and high pass filters along with subsonic don't ever just use the decks x overs they aren't nearly as accurate and can dirty the signal going to amp as well as lowering overall voltage to pre amps. That's why those filters are on amps if your running a cheap ass amp or old amp that doesn't have those filters then by all means use the decks x overs/filters ps if running a sealed enclosure you don't really need to run a subsonic same with a 4th order bandpass for a vented a subsonic filter is there to help against excessive sub zcursion with typically is mid 20s and lower I set mine right about20-25Hz since the human ear cànt really distinguish diffrences from about 20. 80-90hz will be fine yes for the LPF Filter low pass side, but subsonic is a different setting and should be lower to allow the low end bass output. Your on the right track.

Thanx man I’ll try it and how about trying out a line driver like the audio control overdrive what’s your thoughts? Cuz in my system now my amps seem twice as powerful....really
@JacobViral24 жыл бұрын
Never used one or know how. Always worked fine without personally.
@walterbrown46084 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack line drivers can be very beneficial I been using them since 2007. Line drivers are suppose to be used to drive a stronger preout voltage to your amps if the headunit has low preout voltage. Always buy a headunit with 4 volts or better on preout voltage and another thing make sure your amp can handle that high of voltage on the RCA inputs. Some amps are sensitive to high preout voltage.
@walterbrown46084 жыл бұрын
Also u don't have to buy a audio control line driver. They are quite expensive but now a days there are many brands and types. For instance they have 3 way crossovers now for trunk mounting with built in line drivers and they also have dash mounted line drivers 👍. I'd go with a Clarion or Cadence for the money but if u don't like audio control makes great equipment if u wanna spend that much.
@walterbrown46084 жыл бұрын
Also Jack one other thing I didn't mention is u have to be careful with setting the level on line drivers u can get distortion in your system if improperly set.
@jackhammell19264 жыл бұрын
Walter Brown Ya just what I was thinking and since alot of cheap head units only put out 2volts it’s nice to have that extra juice for adjustability for example my Orion xtr amps take up to 8volts

I have a question abt my speakers and LPF. The speakers I have hooked up to my amp in my car which Is a box of 2 8's and 2 horn tweeters have been hooked up in my room with a home audio system playing all frequencys and higher notes hearing the full song. Now that it's in my car hooked up to a amp with only lpf adjustment it's only playing bass and low frequencys. I turned the lpf off because ik that's what will keep the higher frequency from playing but it still don't have all the music to it like it did. But after watching this video I think my head unit is set real low for lpf and that might be blocking everything but if someone could please explain? Thankyou

@riche52722 жыл бұрын
He has a whole video on the subsonic tune. But my Amps sub sonic goes from 10 to 40Hz I tuned mine to the 30 to 35 range. Ur Dbs will go down but this assures your subs coils staying strong and not run the risk of damage. A quick summary is set it to the 75% range to the max sub sonic level on ur amp, if you want that extra kick of Db’s run a lower Hz but you can damage ur sub depending on how you listen to ur music. Hope this helped!

To be honest...unless you use a crossover meter to find the actual frequency you wont know for sure. Because often with amps..it jumps frequencies a lot esp with low pass. it could start slow then jump high. Same thing with subsonic filter.
