I usually don’t say much in meetings. I just listen. I’m the kind of person that takes backstage. I make things happen by doing it and showing how it will be efficient. I’m more of a doer than talker. ❤

Awesome presentation and skill. What I felt people dont speak is because of 2 reasons: 1. They don't do homework before going in a meeting thus they lack the information or knowledge of the agenda and subject. - You will feel confident if you know your audience, have enough information and have done your homework. 2. They do think before sharing anything what if I am proved to be wrong. - people should understand, Most of the time if not always, in any meeting people want to have your idea and get corrected.

English is my second language and I can use it in above average level. The biggest challenge for me is how to explain things specially technical ones to non technical members of the meeting. It takes some brain power to think for the technical solution(solved inside the head using native language) then translate them into English. In some occasions it could make me look as if I don't know enough answers because of stuttering and a lot of filler words (uhmm). Oh those bad memories! 😅🤢

Women generally are not considered smart enough to contribute their ideas and opinions in a male dominated meeting. But with your confidence you can ensure you are heard. Very valuable tips, great content n you are a beauty with brains. I am a new subscriber n love both your content n the delivery style which is so elegant n classy
@KCSMITH862 жыл бұрын
TECHNIQUE: One way to make sure you get heard is to wait for a pause or silent moment. If someone starts talking at the same time, advise the room that when that person is done speaking, that you have something to say. Be ready to speak and jump right on in when that person is done. A second way, is to raise your hand to let it be known that you have something to say. You may have to raise it a few times. Once the room knows that you have something to say, they will get on your side and make sure you have a chance to speak. At this point, they can't wait to hear what it is that you have to say which will be encouraging giving you more confidence to speak. You only have to say excuse me to get their attention never having to apologize. Speak, knowing that what you have to say is valuable and they will receive it as just that. Speak, not caring what anybody is going to think because if it matters to you, thats all that matters.

Watched this long time ago. Never thought a time would come for me to dig this up and saver every bit of it for my next meeting! So very helpful!! Recently I've been quite frustrated with one of our meetings where I was constantly cut off by one of my colleagues. After a while, I found myself feeling dreadful to even go to the meeting anymore. Now examing it, it's really like what you said - a male dominated (I'm the only female of us 4), and it seems ok among the three of them. I will try your technique in our next meeting. Thank you so much for providing so so much values in your videos!

Perhaps start starting with asking more questions such as asking the person to clarify or elaborate. Once you're comfortable with this then start to contribute by sharing your own thoughts. It might even help to jot down some dot points before you speak out. Good luck! 💪🏽

This seems to work for me... 1: Find out what the "Milk" of the meeting is. 2: Find out who are the key players this "Milk" matters too most. 3: Research that "Milk" like your life depends on it 4: *Compress* and *Simplify* that "Milk" into away the key players will understand 5: Every word you use needs to be important, direct with no fluff 6: Be short and sweet when giving your opinion. After 3 or so meetings you wont need to fight anymore for your opinion because the key players will ask you directory for it... 🍼

I like that this didn’t turn into a male bashing session. Women get cut off by women as they are by men. Women should speak up when they are interrupted, without anger, BUT even if the anger is there, they should not hold back because of it and speak up anyway; they’ll get better at it with time. - A male listener
@ShadeZahrai4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing these constructive ideas and agreed - never respond in anger. I recently posted an abridged version of this video on LinkedIn. It was interesting to see both men and women writing comments about them experiencing this problem - even ones in senior leadership positions.

I liked the idea that we need to value our on thoughts and ideas before anyone would and well that's the most difficult thing for me. I gather courage and speek up an the moment I see others are not welcoming it I start feeling less valued and stupid.

My most difficult thing is whenever I have an idea related to my work that I feel is useful i get so much carried away that lose the inability to look through the bigger picture.So whenever I present the idea, my teammates bombard me with what is said won't work because of so and so reason and I feel stupid and valueless

the other day I was watching some video on a social media and suddenly an Ad pops up and it was a famous actor she was promoting her show in this Ad. and the first thing said was "I'm so sorry to interrupt and then she continued to promote her show". she was Sushmita sen Miss (edit: Universe). so its nothing wrong to apologise before you speak up just my opinion. it really doesn't matter in fact it can help you in some way.
@ShadeZahrai4 жыл бұрын
I agree, there are times where it makes sense to say "sorry". The important thing is not being overly apologetic or apologizing for no apparent reason. I've seen too many people (mostly women) being apologetic in the most uncalled for situations such as before they say something in a meeting.
