The anime actually had this technique used in the perfect situation. Tanjiro, the demon slayer, had been injured to the point where he couldn't run anymore while the demon he was facing had to run away or literally burn to ash in the sunrise like a vampire. Since the demon in question had JUST murdered his friend Tanjiro didn't want to let him go and he knew that the demon couldn't take the time to fight him or the demon would die. Taniro also knew that if he could injure it badly enough there was a SLIGHT chance that he might slow it down enough for the sun to kill it. In this situation, throwing his sword was a no risk hail mary move that a very small chance of killing a VERY powerful enemy that had just killed someone important to Tanjiro so it was the right move. It is also why you don't see him pulling the same move again, because in nearly any other situation where he faces a demon it would almost instantly get him killed.

@@MarcSiqueira drinking blood would barely keep them alive. They need to DEVOUR humans to survive and grow. Saying they're very like vampires because they eat people and die in the sun is like saying a vampire is basically a werewolf because they eat people and kinda die in the sun. There's ONE similarity, other than the sunlight thing they're very unlike vampires.
@scarffoxandfriends9401
@scarffoxandfriends9401 7 ай бұрын
@haku8135 Only his blood can turn people, others have to work through him to change people into demons, so while he doesn't have to do it absolutely directly every time, he still has to be involved. The fact that a person doesn't need to make a bargain to become a demon and it can just be forced onto them is another parallel to modern vampire stories. As well as the fact that people lose most of their sense of their past selves and they desire to only feed on people. Only specific pure weapons can kill them. That's another vampire trope. Let me word it this way, if they only two changes they made to the show were calling them vampires and saying the weapons were made of pure silver/are blessed, would you have really doubted the idea of it being a vampire show.

Hell to the fuck no. He already has extra weight on him due to Nezuko, and speed is absolutely necessary for demon slaying. That way he can chase down and decapitate them. Demon Slayers also often use dashes to close the gap because they're mostly close-range fighters, and the extra weight and odd balance will affect him.
@1stCallipostle

@@drifter2391My brother in Christ, an unarmored combatant can afford an extra pound or two. And I mean literally one or two. Hand axes are not that heavy. If you're concerned about weight balance that bad, keep one on either hip. There's extensive precedent to hand axes as a sidearm, and throwing them is a legitimate sport. While they don't have as much Japanese historical combat use, the fact that we see it done at least once means man's knows it would be a good move
@tac4y0n

@@drifter2391 He's already gotten into the habit of letting Nezuko out to help him at night so the only time he actually carries Nezuko in his box is during travel. Carrying around a couple hatchets shouldn't be too much more of an issue as long as Tanjiro chooses to use them as opening strikes at a range or using them to finish off a fleeing demon. Of course then he would need the axe heads to be made of the same material as his sword. Other than that, there aren't that many outstanding issues to that idea.

you also need to realize that they are partially trained in Aikido (Samurai hand to hand) and are very core aware. He stands sideways, plants his foot and uses his core traps and deltoids to get a full range of motion. The breathing techniques are even based off of middle way breathing where you exhale as you put the most effort and the pannel/drawing only shows part of the stance but as the Katana is thrown, from the background you will see he maximized the full body range of motion to enhance the technique.

To make it even better, Tanjiro basically only throws his sword out of spite. The demon is running away because the sun is rising, and that kills them, and Tanjiro is both injured and WAY weaker than this demon, so there's no chance of catching up and doing ANYTHING, much less killing it. So he chucks his sword, impaling him through the back, and basically just shit talks him about how he's a cowardly loser running away from him. It works too, the demon is PISSED. Doesn't stay and burn, but there's a big grudge that I can't WAIT to see play out when Tanjiro works his way up to that level. It's also kind of a big deal that Tanjiro landed a hit against him. Like it's bragging rights for him, and shame for the demon. All this happens in the movie Mugen Train, which takes place right after season 1. It's a REALLY good movie too. MMMMMMH. Shad would cry watching it. Some REAL cutting moments, I cry every time too.

Only limit is There is a minimum distance, doesn't work when you are to close for the knife to make 180 degree rotation before flying straight. funnily enough, there is actually a scene towards the end of the demon slayer manga where there is a battlefield with an excess of swords where the main character picks up said swords and throws them while holding onto his own to use afterwards. so not only did he most likely train to do so since he did it more than once (that we saw), but the circumstances where he did so were also somewhat likely!

Nice video! For the Katana I would suggest for you to use something like an atlatl grip by putting your index finger in the end of the Katana grip (the flat surface) in order to generate a lever effect, that would generate a lot more of force in the thrown and that will (i hope so...) help in the katana flying a little bit straighter than that.

To be clear, the Demon Slayer magic Katana lore is heavily focused around a particular process to create swords that can inflict lethal wounds upon the Demons which can otherwise heal from virtually any wound and are themselves capable of straight up magic spells known as Blood Demon Arts. Their healing is so insane that some of the most powerful have been shown to throw a punch or kick, have their limb severed below the elbow/knee mid swing and regenerate that limb in time to still connect the blow. The swords are magic so that they can affect something else that is magic, and it's explicitly not just normal mundane Katana making processes from our world that make them magic. The sword wielding techniques they employ are somewhat more questionable however.

@@gloomygloomstalker3878 Yeah, the various animation effects are all for show. The raw feats of physical prowess they perform, however, are still well beyond what actual humans could ever achieve. Jumping from the street to the top of a multi story building for instance is simply not something a human can do, yet demon slayers do it on a regular basis. Whether that is just anime fudging the physics for style and they are supposed to be just extremely fit but otherwise normal human achievements, or whether the breathing techniques rise to the level of being their own independent set of supernatural abilities I can't say for sure.

as far as i know Nichirin is a metal that is found on a high off mountain directly exposed to the sun. making it "absorb" sunlight so it can inflict blows onto demons unlike normal iron+ and so bladed weapons. Its the main reason demon slayers have to go to a SPESIFIC place to get a broken blade reforged/replaced because only certain people know how to forge the metal. this was in the manga last i read tho. so take this with some salt.

they pretty much just somehow use a crazy amount of oxygen to "hyper power" the physical limits they have. stuff called "total concetration" is when they breath in a certain way that they are somehow getting the maximum amount they can get at all times even when sleeping. this somehow causes them to "enhance" the physical abilities slayers can do. such as splitting a rock with a katana. or flash stepping in a single instance cutting everything they went past as fast as lighting @@grantharriman284

26:08 Well you gotta remember this wasn't necessarily a battlefield throw when Tanjiro does it, the demon sort of comes in, kills someone important and then runs away. I think in that scenario exactly throwing your sword like this (with the accuracy of anime xD) would be the reason to do it. So it's not necessarily for fighting on a battlefield as it is for taking down a dangerous target that tries to get away.

I’ve been training people in throwing weapons including swords for years. And the second throw(the one that stuck) was exactly how you want to do it. Especially with longer spears and swords it’s a very unintuitive and weird throw, javelin is probably the best way to describe it. You push up as you’re moving forward(increases distance, so you don’t have to add as much force which can make your throw unstable)and you have to really focus on keeping the sword straight, which usually means that your arm when fully extended isn’t actually in front of you but slightly pointing out to the right a little bit(left if left handed)Any movement left or right gets amplified when you release and turns the weapon in the air. So if you do more of a traditional throw, say a baseball or football type of throw and you’re right handed, you’re gonna see the handle of the blade shoot left. If you push forward too hard generally the blade aims a bit to the left and you don’t get quite as much turn, but enough that the point is no longer straight. Which is why you push up for distance, with a weapon like a spear that’s made to be thrown you just keep it straight, throw it hard and it goes right where you want it too. With a sword you have to go for a bit of an arc. The main key is to let the swords weight do the work. If you force it it will not fly straight. Another thing I’ve found that adds some stability but isn’t super easy to do is to actually roll your fingers very gently under the handle or shaft of a spear as you throw it, using the spin to add some stabilization. Of course I think the best way to throw swords, not obviously efficient in a combat scenario is just to spin it like you would a knife.

now do this, but use an atlatl to achieve anime-like strength in the throw :p Also looks like the katana went better because the curve makes it dip down, causing it to dig itself into the target, whereas a regular sword basically only has the tip and after that it just gets more resistance without any advantage from the blade itself.

On changing the katana from a regular holding position to a throwing position, you can easily do this by doing one of those flashy movie sword spins (don't remember what they are called) as you raise your arm to ready the throw. I tried it with a cheap sword at home and the motion actually flows quite naturally. I'm pretty sure you could get fairly adept at throwing a katana in the first way with relatively minimal training, and it would actually be an interesting technique to use on large battlefields with weapons all over the place, or on a retreating opponent.

I've been throwing all kinds of weapons for awhile. Sometimes to test 5he durability of the stuff I forge or make. I've always had the most success with accuracy from overhead two handed. The second hand gives you the ability to automatically align your body and force. Is more intuitive. Also equalizing or canceling out any subconscious horizontal force your body's natural biological pivotal points adds to the vector, velocity and applied force in the act of throwing.
