I was in a car accident when I was 19. A guy who was high in H ran a stop sign. He hit me and I ended up with burns in both of my corneas from the airbag. I was legally blind for 2.5 years. Had to have 4 surgeries and I’m still not completely done. I’ve been dealing with this for YEARS. The officer who came to the accident didn’t charge the guy who hit me. He let him go. Later I found out (when I was doing social work) that the officer who handled my accident was a dealer. And the guy who hit me sadly OD’d 2 years ago. The officer retired. They had a massive party for him and a huge article on the front page of our local newspaper talking about what an amazing officer and good man he is. Makes me absolutely sick. Well karma finally caught up with him last fall. He was caught with an underage girl. He was giving her 💊💉 for “favors”. He’s in a lot of trouble.

As someone who dealt with an addiction and has been close to being thrown in jail multiple times I will say the judgment helps sometimes. It’s better to have someone who loves and supports you but will judge you if they know your worth is much better than that. Sometimes it helps being seen in the wrong doing we are doing to ourselves to pull ourselves out it doenst help everyone so it depends on the addict as well but for me the judgment from my family and love from my friends helped me realize I deserved better

I lived in a small town where you had to take your own trash to the dump. Shortly after I moved there one day I took the trash, and people were just putting it outside the gate so I thought that was what we were supposed to do. A few weeks later the police were at my house they'd found my name on a piece of mail in tbe trash. I was charged a huge littering fee and they made me go to the jail and get photos done and fingerprints done. It was one of the most terrible experiences of my life. The officers were so mean to me, and I just had a ticket for littering. One officer kept laughing at me because I was shaking. The whole place smelled like a dity gas station bathroom. I was so grateful to just go home after the fingerprints were done. Can't imagine spending more time there.

I knew how badly addicts are treated, so I worked my program and stayed off opiates for almost 2 years before I ever even opened up to a single person about being in recovery. it's 2023 and the average person still rly thinks addiction is an episode of intervention. I'm homeless rn and I said in my shelter that when I was full-time being an addict it was worse than homelessness, and they were all shocked. i see that mentality of ppl being like why don't addicts just grow some balls & decide to stop using. which, if you've ever experienced physical addiction, u get what a ridiculous sentiment that is. it's like saying, why don't ppl just grow some balls and stop needing air, like just stop breathing...lol. ppl rly out here thinking addicts are simply weak. even 5+ years into abstaining from alcohol n drugs I still have to remind myself that every non-addict getting it one day is just not gonna happen and it's why communities like this help tremendously.

The jails are horrible to addicts. My son was an addict. Got pulled over with paraphernalia, got arrested. In jail he started to go through withdrawal. He begged for help,he was so sick. In the end the demons got the best of my son and he took his life, alone,in that jail cell. I've never experienced so much pain in my life. He didn't get the chance to become who he once was. They should be ashamed of how they treat addicts and God forbid if any of their children ever become one. Cop or not,it can happen to ANYONE. They need some kind of protocol that that have to follow when addicts first go in. I'm so happy that you made it out and are living your life one day at a time. Now thanks to that mindset Change it then led to making sure addicts also can get methadone especially if they are prescribed it already then the cops have to take them to the clinic to dose/get their take homes so no more people dying from methadone withdrawals again hopefully! I've seen the cops bringing in people to dose before, most of.them have been really friendly, you could tell they were uncomfortable doing it at first but it's good to see it has became normalized from what I've seen RIP to your son
