Denying biological sex is the most ridiculous thing. As a woman, I'm at no risk of developing prostate cancer, just as trans-women are at no risk for developing cervical cancer. Denying that you are biologically a man or a woman can be detrimental to your health.

I haven't met a single trans person who denies their biological reality, so I'm pretty sure that's a fringe minority. If they want representation of trans or whatever they feel should be represented of them then create your own book you want others to take their creation and form it to what you feel comfortable and support of what and who you are. That's not fair to the Creator. So make your own book create your own characters then that way you'll be represented the way you want to be and stop depending on others to fight your fight because you feel everybody who creates something should be representing you.

I'm with you. Someone identifying as a woman, while being biologically male, without transitioning has no reason to claim the right to enter women's spaces. It is a slap in the face of those who do transition. JK Rowling has said many times that she accepts trans women, but she doesn't support those who self identify without transitioning and expect to enter women's spaces.

JK Rowling says real women have periods and all of a sudden Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliff forgot she wrote their meal tickets. 🙄 I saw an article where someone was creating new covers for their Harry Potter books (and selling them, which is illegal) because he likes Harry Potter but wants to erase all mentions of JK Rowling from the work. The entitlement...I'm glad Rowling isn't caving to the mob. She's still laughing all the way to the bank.

"The entire Harry Potter fandom hates her" Well, I am part of the Harry Potter fandom and much longer than the woke Gen Zs (because I'm older), and I dont hate JK Rowling. I admire her. Also to the point that it tells more about them thinking of a trans person when a man dresses up in women's clothes and kills other women, I have another example. At the moment, JK Rowling also gets a lot of hate that she's antisemitic, because of how she described the goblins in her book. And all I can think of is "If you read 'goblin' and think 'Jew', it sounds more like a 'YOU' problem to me." 🤷🏻‍♀️

There was a girl I used to work with at Starbucks that jumped on the "JK is a transphobe" train a few years ago and made this HUGE post on Facebook about it. So I responded to her post and said something like "I'm just now hearing about JK being transphobic. Can you point me to some information about her being transphobic?" And she said "yea, read this passage from one of her books" (talking about the book where the guy dresses as a woman) And I was like... "I must be interpreting this differently... but I'm not seeing what you're seeing. I'm seeing a murderer dress up in a disguise so he won't be caught for murder..." And she was like: "Well, it's not just that. If you read all of her books and listen to everything she says, it's all transphobic!" And I said: "Well... I HAVE read all of the Harry Potter books, multiple times. Every time a new book or movie would come out, I would re-watch and re-read all the previous books/movies... and again.. I'm not seeing anything in those books that I haven't seen in EVERY PIECE of fantasy I've ever read." Her response was to just get angry and call me a transphobe after that. The crazy thing is that literally... every fantasy book/movie/video game I've ever read/watched/played is "not new". There is no such thing as a new story. All stories have been told. They are just getting retold in a different way. As a gamer, we play games like The Witcher, Dragon Age, Lord of the Rings, etc... and all of these characters in these games have backstory and lore. There are regions in this game where "sub-humans" or "half-humans" are being treated as "less than". The writers draw from real-life history and use it as part of the lore. The characters go to war to free slaves, just like real life. They're just fighting for elves instead of humans. As a kid, you read these books and think "wow... that's horrible what the Orcs are doing to the Elves." or "that's horrible what the Elves are doing to the Humans" - and you actually subconsciously learn how to be a good person. If you don't know history, you're doomed to repeat it... but kids fall asleep in history class. Kids fall asleep in Sunday school, but they learn the valuable lessons they're supposed to learn from the "boring Bible", because of the "Comic Book Bible". I don't think every author is trying to actively create a history lesson in their story, but they are taking history and creating an alternate universe around that history, which has a positive effect in making children aware of real life history and the lessons they should be learning from it.

Honestly... fuck this normalization of bigotry. Most women don't care about transgender women being in their spaces like women shelters. Most don’t care, of course they’re will always be ignorant people unfortunately. Most women get along with transwomen, and don't mind them in their spaces.

First of all, not every woman in a DV shelter was in a heterosexual relationship - lesbians have been okay with people who may have features similar to their abuser in shelters with them, so I don’t see what the issue is. Further, people with ‘masculine features’ are already coming into DV shelters - some therapists, counselors, lawyers and security people at shelters are even cis men, and that hasn’t been a problem. And as others pointed out, what about really tall women with big hands and feet, or more masculine looking women? Do women need to be acceptably ‘feminine looking’ to go to a shelter? Further, I don’t see how separate shelters for trans women would be feasible or necessary. Trans women are a rather small part of the population, and a given area may not have enough trans women to make a separate shelter feasible or able to be adequately supported. Cis women and trans women are subject to the same violence of men, sometimes for different reasons but the end result is all the same. Trans women deserve a safe space too. Women in shelters should be protected from abusers - this is what a safe space is, not a "male features" free zone. Trans women are statistically more likely to be raped, abused and killed. They need protection and shelter too.

Also, most attacks on cis women are from cis men, not transgender women. So it's fair to lump them together. It's rare for cis women to assaulted by transgender women.

@@smokexsmoke99 All the available evidence is clear that abused women are best served by female only services. It's why these services have exemptions under the Equality Act which allows them to refuse to employ male staff. What's disgusting is you dismissing uncontrollable trauma responses as excuses. These women have had their lives utterly destroyed by males. They can't control their PTSD responses. If they could, it wouldn't be PTSD. These women deserve space to heal free from males. There are plenty of trans only services, which is fantastic and is evidence of the support the trans community has. Women deserve the same.

I know of the women's shelter and I asked him if that's what he was referring to, ready to explain why a single sex safe space is critical for sexual assault victims, and he deflected believing that she is actively giving money to an organization that works against the trans community. I asked for the organization's name in good faith because I want to know and he still hasn't got back to me. I know about the store she promoted on Twitter and honestly I don't have a problem with it either. I think lesbians are getting shafted when they are called transphobic for not accepting "female penis". Its a new warped version of misogyny.

Dipped my toe into that debate again and found out that nothing has changed. The person I was replying to claimed JKR was trying to take away trans rights. I asked how. Another person stepped in and fired off 3 responses, surprise surprise one already calling me a bigot. I got vague, loose answers revolving around "JKR said..." so pointed out that's an opinion and doesn't strip rights. I furthered the convo stating I had read GLAAD's statements on JKR and I have read about the women's shelter she gave money to but found no anti-trans organizations or politicians she had donated to. Got called a bigot a 2nd time by the same person when they again moved the goal post. I responded a last time asking if they could have a discussion that didn't devolve to ad hominem and reiterated that I was being serious in asking. This time they tried not calling me a bigot but their answer was JKR is an anti-trans activists leading people in the charge to strip away rights. So I Googled again, doing the work for them.. she isn't listed as an activist or listed to have participated in any protests, there are also no images of her leading activists anywhere doing anything. Asked again for sources if they could prove otherwise. Basically these conversations always make her out to be such a grand influential activist that attends protests or writes and introduces legislation that actually harms trans people. She gets fabricated into a larger than life monster, some call her Voldemort, and she's just not. She has her own individual opinion on a subject that is divided.

There's not a lot of people to speak up, let alone willing. ... Set back, truly, but for the sake of privilege and exploration. Academia and Corporate marketing propped up abusive and exploitative people over understanding. Those who were caring towards individuals and the ideas related to separating sex and gender, along with considering the semantics and linguistics, were made taboo, erased from literature, and exiled, excommunication and financial redress. Example, one of JK's harassers use to be a much more understanding person, but they progressively were taught more by abusive people and that academic corrupt, alongside the driving hatred of JK to side as a contrarian. Weren't perfect, so it was likely to happen, but they were once more measured and disagreed with such abusers, more "good faith" like people like to use. But since there's only opposing extremes as part of the abusive dialectic, there's scant few that know any better to speak up and they can't fight against the dictation of Institutional Authority. And yes, Marcus is lovely. Him, and others, give this world hope. The ruins are burning, and they're in positions to speak out and have people listen now. There's more here then one condition; perception, references, qualities, and other physical issues are also being claimed and misappropriated. The corporate aspect wants to engage in "demographic manufactured" for marketing control and extortion, and for that they promise assignments of "representation," promises of authority and encourage that "rights" are given segregated privileges, not universally human in concept which may very in their interaction (the idea that they can be segregated, inherently implies a 'right' to impose upon others, proper universal understanding does not). Consider how semantics and peoples assumptions are exploited all over the place; everyone uses the misnomer of "community" for any demographic group, this manipulative tactics exploits that people will assign the related qualities expected of a proper community to it; however, none of those qualities apply, it is merely referentially being used as a synonym for a generic group. Demographics aren't even considered corrected, they're falsely taken as inherent in a broad scope when inversely they are exist with-in the limited scope of an observer for categorization. Rather than being assigned from qualities observed by academics, they are being used to assign qualities intently... the point being that the demographic someone would fall into should correctly change depending on the scope, circumstances, context, and what is being observed; such they can change, be in seemingly opposing demographics out of scope, but the assigning qualities change or aren't relevant. This improper usage/understanding of a broad universal demographic is used to claim ownership/representation of people though arbitrary and disputable association. ... I was just reading comments, you saying "setting ... back" struck a cord with me. haha

The "victims" and attention seekers do more damage every day to the trans community and make the general public feel distrustful and annoyed with trans people because of their ridiculous statements. It's dangerous and unfair to those who are trans and struggling through their gender dysphoria and dealing with an already difficult journey to feel outwardly like they feel internally. They ("victims") bring hate out in stupid people all through society and make it dangerous just to be trans in society. It's not fair, it's not cool and it's extremely frightening. My best friends partner is a trans man, and I love him to death. We've become very close over the past two years. Hell, I was the one who helped him get set up with an LGBT clinic that provides gender affirming care. I drove him to his appointment and was in the room with him to help him answer questions. Yet, people online still try to call me transphobic because I am hesitant when it comes to medically transitioning children. Harry Potter was my lifeline when I was a closeted kid in catholic school. Specifically, the relationship Harry and Molly Weasley had. "He's not your son, Molly." - "He's as good as." When it comes to J.K. being "transphobic," I genuinely think that she isn't. She is a woman who has suffered abuse from men in the past - so when she funded a shelter designed to help women like her she decided a single-sex space would be the best environment for these women to heal and get back on their feet. I agree with her. Not because she is excluding trans-identifying individuals, but because she is providing a resource that wasn't available in Scotland. From what I can tell, most if not all other women's shelters in her area are not single-sex spaces. Which means that trans women already have quite a few resources at their disposal if the need arises. Centers that are equipped to help them. She isn't against these shelters at all. if you take a look at her twitter she is constantly advocating for human rights across the globe. She frequently interacts with accounts from the middle east that advocate for fair treatment of all people. Her Lumos foundation is incredible, and the work being done there helps ALL children no matter their identity, race, or sex.

Ugh this reminds me of what happened to Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter, they've been harassed and hounded by activists for years because they didn't want to take on a trans woman as a volunteer in a counselling role. She was offered other volunteer opportunities but they felt that the demographic of women they were serving would not be well served by having someone who was obviously male as their counsellor after fleeing male violence. Instead of having some understanding for the survivors they're trying to help, this person tried to sue them, and though they didn't win, other activists took up the cause of harassment and successfully got them to lose some of their funding. Like who does that?? Who removes funding for women fleeing sexual and domestic violence just to get back at the organisers for being the one single shelter in all of Vancouver that is sex-based in some of their services? It's crazy.

None of the Harry Potter cast has any business calling Rowling out, when their entire careers were built on her work, and if the books hadn't been successful, none of them would even have any platform to speak from in the first place. I say, if they're gonna sh*t on Rowling, they need to donate every dime they've made from the franchise to charities that reflect their views. Every. Dime...

I don't remember if it was Daniel's or Emma's tweet I read, but basically he/she wrote that just because they're all connected by the books and stories doesn't mean that all cast of HP shares the same views as JK Rowling. It wasn't even bashing her or hating on her, just clarifying that just because she says something doesn't mean they all agree with it or support it. Some people really took it too much like all of the actors are sending some hate towards her. The unfollowing her was also most likely advised by their team (whether they should or shouldn't is your opinion, but they're entitled to unfollowing someone, it doesn't directly hurt her anyhow).

I've yet to speak in real life with anyone who claims JKR is transphobic who can articulate why. Not a single person. Even people online who have access to everything she's written fumble with it, and end up posting some comment she made about how sex is real.... as if sex and gender are the same thing. When I ask them if they think that sex and gender are the same thing, they fumble more and say no.... Most turn around and mumble something about some tweet she liked, but "can't remember the tweet". I used to cringe when the right would call us on the left "NPCs", but holy fuck, if you are literally a person who has a max limit of the same copy paste dialogue that you can't divert from then just glitch out when you have to think for yourself? You're a fucking NPC. They're right. Congrats, you made the alt right bros right about something, and that's more infuriating than anyting.

I feel that J.K.R. has actually written one of the best, most convincing and gripping gay characters I've ever read. It's not very obvious, but beautifully done, that's all the representation I need really. All these queer characters in almost every bit of media, it's so overdone. I mean, I'm gay and so over it at this point. There should not be a focus on your sexuality, it's only a small part of who you are, it's great when you get some representation, but there is just too much of a focus on it just for credit, not to actually improve general acceptance. And thank god she didn't let them ruin Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts film, he would have become a caricature for sure. I think trans-men and trans-women should be treated as the sex they are presenting themselves as. We should be courteous and polite. But if you are truly trans, I don't see how you would ever put yourself in a situation where other men or women feel threatened or like their privacy is being invaded, if you can help it obviously. You want to be treated as either a man or a woman, why would you purposefully antagonize the people you so badly want to accept you as one of their own (other than a grab for attention imho)? I will never believe or say that someone who is trans is now magically the other sex. When did society start thinking it is perfectly okay to affirm others in their delusion? Talk about unhealthy... I love what you said about your journey and how being a biological woman is such an important part of that. Happy to see you living your best life and if we were friends in real life I would probably think and speak of you like any other guy. But acknowledging your being trans and that you are biologically female seems so important. I would want other people to acknowledge me being gay and my journey through that, it's an important part of how I came to be who I am even though it doesn't define me as a person same as your biology doesn't define who you are inside (if that makes sense). Thanks for being rooted in reality! And for anyone who was bored enough to read through it: sorry for the book... had to vent ;)

I agree so much 😭 thanks for tackling this, she is just advocating for science and reality, not invalidating people’s chosen identities. Also the “antisemitism” in her books is because of the goblins who run the banks, the thing is that goblins did begin as an antisemitic trope but they are used in soooo many different fantasy stories/games now (including World of Warcraft and Dungeons and Dragons and I’m sure many other fantasy novels). As a Jewish person myself I didn’t even know the history of the trope of goblins until this year, and I’m willing to bet that JK and other creators didn’t either. Lots of the races in fantasy novels were inspired by real life races back when people were more racist on a whole, imo that doesn’t mean we should never use goblins or orcs in *fictional* works just because maybe originally, back in the day, they weren’t created with the best intentions.

Why didnt these people say all these things about her books for over 20 years? They were praising them nonstop. It was actually tabu to say these books were overrated. I was attacked for saying that. I remember when I was 11 and hyper liberal because I believe in equality and acceptance (growing up with ASD, I had more issues with acceptance within my own family than outside of it), then I became a teenager and I trusted news outlets to be honest with me and I felt appalled by the world. I'm currently 31 years old, and I was liberal until about 3-4 years ago when I started to notice shit going awry. I'd prefer to see myself as center-right these days, because I can't agree with a lot of the conservative opinion (far less can I align with current leftist beliefs, however), but the country and beyond will not benefit from liberal domination. For lack of a better word, it's getting pretty wack. Whoa, I've just done something. "Woke is Wack" 🤭. I need that on a shirt I'll never wear.

Whenever anyone said they hated JKR, I'd ask them why. They'd just say something along the lines of "because she's transphobic," "oh she's a TERF," "she hates trans women." Then you ask for a quote that proves that, and they have nothing. They don't actually know anything about her arguments, they're just following the trend of cancelling her so as not to be cancelled themselves. I read her whole essay and looked at her tweets, and there was nothing hateful about them. Sometimes you have to say the harsh reality, even if that hurts some people's feelings

Thank you for your honesty and courage! You, and several other trans-people (like Blaire and others), are the sole reason why I still think that trans-people are really people like anyone else, and not victims of a very vicious ideology. Here, I'm gonna say it, and I don't care about any backlash: MANY people who claim that they're "trans" are not actually trans, but since they don't have any other quality or skill, the only way to get attention and earn some money is to declare themselves as "trans" and as "advocates of trans movement." They discredit the entire thing with this! I really appreciate your contribution and efforts. This is what we (non-trans people) NEED, in order to understand you and your issues, and to help you overcome them or live in this world a bit more happy than you'd be. Keep up the good work!
