I have to say that if a moderator in a debate stopped everything to check if i was okay or upset by what another debater said, i would be offended. It's hard when the debate in question is about your identity though. There are so many examples when trans women are called aggressive and violent for getting upset during a debate regarding the question if their identity, their life, is real or not. I feel like this is the same thing really. Wether you believe nonbinary people exist or not, just imagine being in their shoes. Having your identity questioned c o n s t a n t l y. Trying to live as yourself with no support from the rest of society and struggling to find words to describe how you really feel. That person, Jamie, seemed a lot more hurt than Blaire. Maybe they have mental health problems the moderator knew about. Idk. Asking someone if they are ok during a debate doesn't seem like worst crime to me.

I love this simple definition: The goal of non-binary people is to completely destroy and deconstruct the binary. And the goal of trans people is to operate within the binary as in moving from one to the other. Language use is so important, and the dominating attitude to destroy language and reshape it is really just a new form of colonization. I love your simple dissection and acknowledgment of words.
@basedgod60162 жыл бұрын
explain how this has anything to do with colonisation. personally i'd argue language is colonising the debate by turning issues of identity into issues of semantics
@mikeexits2 жыл бұрын
Reminds me a lot of Terence McKenna's points on language influencing reality. I fundamentally disagree with the popular statement "the limits of my language mean the limits of my reality." But the way you use language certainly has a powerful impact on our perception of reality as well as on the state of being of the other person you're talking to, and how they interpret what you're trying to communicate. So many people have different associations with the same words that intellectual discourse across this artificial divide is almost impossible.

I think people confuse the term non-binary with the term androgynous... Non-binary describes your gender, where you don't exclusively feel completely female/male. Androgynous, on the other hand, describes how you represent your outward appearance like with fashion, where you can naturally look somewhere in between or your fashion not being either girly or manly. So you can be a transexual, since you're more confrotable being in the other sex, and still like to represent yourself somewhere in between, being a androgynous.
@riveraharper81663 жыл бұрын
Well androgynous to me is Tilda Swinton. The first two people on the other hand is...
@missbee91402 жыл бұрын
A transexual is a sexual invert. Incomplete sexual inverts fall under the ‘gay’ term. They are incomplete sexual inverts because they can not pass as the opposite sex, generally because they didn’t start taking birth control pills around 12 for biological males and thus became too masculinized. Eventually even those transexuals on hormones will become too masculinized when they get older and won’t be able to attract straight men as sexual partners. As far as sex is concerned you either want to penetrate / dominate / masculine or be penetrated/ submissive / feminine. Bisexuality doesn’t really exist as long as your sexual preference remains the same. Moreover narcissists will use their sexuality to control others and bisexuality is just that - a matter of collecting and controlling their primary objects. Read more at rod fleming dot com and learn about the new gay male.

@DeNaMiTaKi5 жыл бұрын
The thing is, this is -again- a debate. You WILL be confronted by people with different opinions than you and you will have to make your point against theirs, otherwise it's not a debate, it's just people ranting at each other. I'm not saying it is a bad thing to be sensitive, especially about these topics, but if this means you cannot handle people coming for you,then you shouldn't be in a debate , where you KNOW this will happen.
@beholdento5 жыл бұрын
@@DeNaMiTaKi I'm not disagreeing with any of what you just said. However you notice they don't call Blaire's transness into question. Why should Blaire call anyone elses transness into question without even knowing them? That's not a healthy debate at all, that's a low blow. She categorically says NB people aren't trans when there are plenty of NB people who transition (me included) is all I was trying to say. And she does this because she sees herself as the True Trans here, when it turns out her experience isn't the only experience, nor the only "valid" experience.

@@DeNaMiTaKi basically all I meant was that in a civilized debate, in my opinion, Blaire wouldn't just come out of nowhere and say that some random person next to them (mean or not) isn't trans just because she doesn't think they are. Sadly, that's the way of the world, now. You can't have an opinion outside of the accepted social commentary, because you might hurt someone's feelings. When did we become so soft as a society that "words will never hurt me" stopped being a thing? People need to realize that it's okay, normal even, to have your feelings hurt by someone and your opinions challenged.

All these 5489 new "genders" seem like a way to feel special. And like Blair said, if that makes them happy then go for it! But it's not comparable to having gender dysphoria and transitioning. Honestly, it’s kinda an insult to those emo kids (not actually offended or anything, but hear me out). Those emo kids tend to retain some of that “emo”ness. Their music tastes evolve from the emo music while retaining some of the emo stuff too. And like, idk a lot of emo kids had depression or shit like that and that stuff gets better, but I feel like it’s not truly gone. And emo kids definitely look back and laugh like “what the FUCK was I doing wearing all those bracelets/dumb belts/all black/THICK ASS eyeliner?” but it’s not like you completely lose all that whereas a few years from now the non binaries will be like “yeah I’m just a woman/man, idk wtf that non binary shit was about” and really won’t hold onto anything. There are gay people that "look straight" and some straight people that "look gay" and they may be perceived that way by other people. However, that doesn't mean you have to "look like your sexuality". Dress the way you want and be yourself is the most important thing. You shouldn't care about how other people see you or what they say about you. I think the problem with the term non-binary is that it doesn't have an official and clear definition, thus people are appropriating it and applying to it their personal feelings. For example, some people seem to think that "non-binary" = "I don't care about society's expectations of my gender", thus creating the "non-binary lesbian" archetype. In any case, I agree with Blaire that non-binary shouldn't be considered trans. Typically the argument that is used to support that it should is that the original definition of trans is "a person whose gender is different than what they were assigned at birth", therefore claiming that this definition was meant to include non-binary as well. However, what these people miss is that when the term transgender became was created non-binar-ism wasn't a thing. At least non something that was widely known or had a term for it, so it arbitrary to conclude that the term was created with non-binary people in mind too. Not to mention that medically speaking these 2 are vastly different (but a lot of non-binary people like to shrug this off as "transmedicalism")

This! I am a lesbian and I thought that the "Can you be non-binary and lesbian?" video was awful. Lesbians are women who are primarily attracted to other women, so people who are not women cannot be lesbians by definition. Some of the comments they made about lesbians not wanting to date them were frustrating as well... if I am only attracted to women, why should I feel pressured into dating someone who is, by their own admission, not a woman? It's like a man complaining that a lesbian won't date him. The whole video was a train wreck.
