I find it quite funny how a lot of people (me included) mistake themselve for a muted season while they are actually way more vibrant. I would like to know why that happens. I myself thought I was either a muted summer or muted autumn, came out to be light spring (I even thought my natural hair color was WAY darker than it actually is) and can't believe how vibrant I look in those colors. I now know that muted colors do make me look dull and that might be why I thought I was actually muted, but it's crazy how we ourselves don't seem to be able to see the brightness in ourselves and need someone to show us.

I think we think we’re muted because we’ve always had a muted appearance when wearing the wrong colours.

I think because many also mistake low contrast between features as being soft which is not necessarily correct. Also what doesn’t “help” is that the internet is filled with blond (likely dyed their hair) celebrities that are portrayed as soft summers/autumns.

As a woman who has always been drawn towards very bright and saturated colors, I’ll say that while they occasionally are in style more often they can be hard to find. At least in the US, I’ve found the women’s section to often be filled with muted neutrals and soft pastels in shades of pink, purple, blue, mint, beige, mauve, white and cream. This is especially true in late winter (the holidays usually offer up at least some bright red) and spring, but the pastel powerhouses can easily fill summer up with white and pastel wonderlands. Meanwhile, you are much more likely to find darker and more saturated clothing in the men’s section. In contrast, if you look at pictures of clothing/ shops from India for example, there tends to be brighter and more saturated colors across the board. So, I think cultural preferences and availability of certain colors skews perceptions of what is desirable or looks good. I find it interesting that many women in online forums guess lighter and more muted colors, while many men seem to guess darker and generally more autumnal colors. Just an observation, but I think we’ve all been conditioned at least somewhat when it comes to color and breaking outside that conditioning sometimes takes an outside perspective.

A fellow Norwegian! Her national costume (age 15) is a great match for light summer.

This was so helpful, to be able to see the grid of colors together. I have the same exact coloring as her. I think I am a light summer also

Love your analysis videos! I thought she would be a spring, it was a really close call 🤔 I'm curious how you decided between the two

Thanks!! I was worried I couldn't be muted summer because my eyes have flecks of brown in them and my brown hair has some red undertones in the sun. But this reassured me.

I wish there was a swatch book offered for specifically Light Summer. Would the "Summer" swatches or "Light" swatches be closer, I wonder

It depends on where your colouring falls on undertone, value and intensity scale. My clients’ results will provide the recommended handheld references based on this; for this particular person a Light wallet was suggested with Summer add-on card 💕⭐️🎨

Thanks for the reply!! Yes I will definitely be reaching out to have this professionally done by you soon. I have the hardest time getting a shade match with foundations and I can't tell whether I look better in brighter or more muted colors, all I know is I get the most compliments when I wear sage green or any shade of blue 💙

I'm confused because the palette shown here as "true summer" is what I believed to be soft summer (not very saturated). And I thought there was only 3 summers.

Yes, me too!! Three types for each season. But that's the system that was popularized in social media. From this video, I understand that another systems exists, and she uses the International Image Institute System. For me, I will forget about the one I learned in social media and I will adopt this one. Carol is the only one that's always correct in her analysis

You're talking about 12 seasons system, which is more popular in social media. She uses Image Institute 16 season system. Soft summer doesn't exist in that system, but as she said, the muted summer is the closest match to 12s soft summer. But they are not identical, the pallets have differences. Even the 12-season systems it exists different versions which do not have identical pallets or terminology.

I don’t get why the best metal for a light summer is a dark silver. I would think that a light silver would compliment her better.
