Sheldon definitely needed more people like the nurse in his life, but he also needed more people like Ricky. He needed age-peers to be honest and real but relatable. The two of them connected with comic books like normal kids, but Ricky’s health issues and insight (and his being honest about them) forced Sheldon to think hard about himself and his behavior…. That rarely ever happened in either show

Maybe but you can also have the opposite arguement which is sadly it can lead to social enforcement where we do need people like Sheldon to talk about issues that exist. Many of sheldon issues may be more ridicukous but some of them bring up valid points and reacting like the nurse did sadly in the real world can have an enforcement effect that really just prevents those who recognize real issues with the world to be quiet

I imagine there are a fair few nurses in the world like that. Certainly more abundant in the medical field than most other professions imo. They are incredibly tolerant people, but not when it comes to intolerance toward their patients, even if it’s from another patient. That passion, dedication and fierce protective nature is what drove them to where they are and I will always respect and admire them.

Sorry, I didn't watch this episode on TV, and it's not clear in this video: (1) How do we know Ricky recovered from surgery? (2) How do we know Sheldon doesn't want to see Ricky ? In this scene, he wants to stay until the surgery is over, but Mom says they'll check on him later. Is the Iron Man comic book meant to be a farewell gift? Or does he actually say he doesn't want to see him again?

I had that hole in my heart. It's a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Everyone is born with it, but about 10% of the time it doesn't close. Most people can live their lives and it never causes a problem. I had a stroke and that's when they discovered it. Got a nice patch and was good as new. Didn't get an Ironman comic, though

Sheldon is a kid who has a huge respect for his own agency, as any child should. The only people who did right by him given his personality development issues the most is his meemaw, his mother and his sister. They all had a varying degree of empathy yet enough firmness collectively to help shape sheldon atleast cope with the society.

Very true. A few years ago, I went to the ER due to chest pains and numbness in my arm… I drove myself (yes, I know, stupid). Upon reaching the hospital, I was given the riot act by one of those nurses. Seriously, Young Sheldon needs more moments like this. It's a humbling experience for Sheldon to meet Ricky and learn about empathy. When you think about it, Sheldon is a privileged kid that everybody tolerated so he always had his way and it made him condescending and insensitive as an adult. He should have learned to check his priviledges and to learn that not everyone has the same priviledge as him for him to learn to be kinder. In this case, Ricky did not have the same luxury as the titular character healthwise. I could also bet, financially, he's not as financially stable as Sheldon here. It would have been better if he retained his friendship with a person like Ricky to learn to be more considerate. He is a picture of elitism at the end of the day that needs to be curbed
