I had an IQ of over 140 until I was in a head on and ended up in a coma. And unable to compute... being bright doesn't protect you from being homeless. I was 3 times that I can remember... as I lost my memory completely for 4 months. My brain would go from 0 to 60 I was wako, the welfare lady at the back to work program wrote my DVR worker and told him that I was unemployable! I was pissed. I wanted to go back to school. They didn't think I could. But I told my worker I can speak English and Spanish fluently. I can interpret. So they allowed me to take the test! I passed the first time. Just barely on consecutive as it requires memory. So I got a job! 4 hours a day which wiped me out. Point is I was homeless but eventually got back on my feet. That's me in the picture after the brain damage! Can't tell by looking at folks. I went from 120k a yr to homeless.

@yandrsupreme okay and what to you do in a small rural town? Your lucky to find a drinking buddy. Most decent places with jobs a 1 bedroom will cost close to 700 for heat included in Wisconsin where I live, which is not bad considering that 2 people will qualify if they are employed full time making $10 per hour . They can even have savings, considering in 1 week they will earn enough to pay the rent and small electric bill. This give them 3 full weeks where they can budget for their other expenses and savings. Compare to California at 1000 for a studio is crazy!!!!. So you need to make about $1000 gross per week to qualify. You would think that roommates would have to be the norm in order to qualify , even on a studio and hope you have a good roommate or partner that does their share and respects boundries. When did it become such a struggle for the average person to live in the USA? I cant say you can blame landlords . They are subject to mortgage payment, huge property taxes , heat and electric, and water bill, not to mention maintenance and dealing with some possibly bad tenants. Wow . I am self employed but remember struggling to save money and make ends meet when I was younger but only because I did not have my head right. Here in the midwest if you have a half way decent job you can make rent and live pretty well I think . If you want to live in the city of Chicago that is a different story . That is turning into a California as far as affordability. . If I has one wish I would wish for every one to have a family that loves and cares for them. Then I don't think any one would be homeless or struggling.. I have watched a lot if interviews and it seems like most who are homeless come from a bad , abusive household. Even the drug addicts >>> most are self medicating from the abuse they went through.. . I hope they find their strength because life is hard . You must accept that first and appreciate what God gave you first and go from there , Amen. ..

The wealthiest 1% pay 90% of the personal income taxes - more than their share. Every one in this country who is entitled can get welfare, food stamps, medicaid and a government paid phone. The person on welfare lives better than the middle class in most countries. These woman made life style choices that she is living with. Liberal laws in this country prevent the government from putting mentally incompetent people in homes.

Found this channel just recently. Made me think and learn a lot. Thanks a lot. I donated some money to contribute and thank you. Shelly is a great example. She is clever and clear but somehow things did not evolve the way they should, wether it is external causes (economy crash in 2008), personal tragedies that were to tough to compensate or just personal traits as we are all not perfect and people make mistakes. I really hope that she found a way back on her feet. I was really impressed by Marc's thoughts about her years of pain. I assume that surviving on the streets not only creates tremendous pain but also keeps you so busy in surviving that you hardly have the ressources to get out of the situation.

US Christianity is opposite of the real kind. In the US it's believed that if you're poor it's because you're sinful and God is punishing you. But if you're rich it means you're less sinful and that God is rewarding you. So you have things like tons of homeless people in the streets and things like the Crystal Cathedral. I'm not a Christian but the only Christianity I consider real is Catholicism. They are doing things right. The present Pope is a great human being, and who's out there in the streets helping the poor? The Catholics. St. Vincent de Paul Society, the local Catholic churches. Yeah other groups are out there too but if the other denominations helped as much as the Catholics did, we'd have no homelessness in the US.
@Synicizm7 жыл бұрын
I grew up Catholic and don't really practice a religion now, but you're right. Despite the sex abuse and helping HIV spread by insisting condoms are "immoral", they keep nuns around just to help and do good things around the planet. Everyone has their good and bad points, but that's something the Catholic Church does right, imo.

Young working women used to stay at boarding houses. It seems like we could have these again with a staff of people to assist folks to get back on their feet. The rules would be strict, like no men allowed on the second third fourth floors, where the bedrooms are and you had to adhere to a curfew, like 11p.m. ( unless you worked nights) and you were responsible to keep your room tidy and be on a rotation to do small chores like help make dinner or sweep, or set the table, but I bet alot of women would be willing to adhere to some rules for a safe place to sleep at night. No drama queens, no drugs or alcohol and you behave civilly towards those around you. Kate wrote this
