Shiny Cyndaquil in Pokemon Silver after 2,045 soft resets (Fire Monotype #1)

A new quest begins! A fantastic start to this challenge with a Shiny Cyndaquil coming way under odds. Gen 2 Cyndaquil is a really unique colouring which I'm sad they didn't continue with. The entire line looks fantastic. I'm doing this quest as a small race with several friends to see who finished first. It's amazing to be using my original Silver cartridge to hunt on after all these years.

I mention in the video but I will write it here for clarity. Female starters cannot be shiny in Generation 2 so simply reset at the nickname screen if the Pokemon chosen is female.
You can also optimise the hunt further by resetting or not when you see the HP value. Cyndaquil is only capable of being shiny if it has a HP value of 18 or 19. If it's 20 (the only other variable), it cannot be shiny due to how shinies are determined in Gen 2. This is also the case for the other starters but with different HP values to consider;
Chikorita (Reset if Female): 19, 20
Cyndaquil (Reset if Female): 18, 19
Totodile (Reset if Female): 20
Only these values can produce a shiny. I mentioned in the intro that I wasn't planning to play too much attention to other hunts at the side but I did find more often than not, I could quickly glance at the HP stat before resetting. It's not as difficult to monitor as you might think.
Furthermore, you can further optimise your hunt by placing your character in the position shown in the video. If you face directly upwards to the table, your character will need to move towards Professor Elm to further the dialogue. Time saver!

There really is nothing like playing the Gen 2 games on original hardware. I also got myself a modded GBC and did a full living Dex run of Crystal--and got some shinies along the way! Looking forward to seeing more of your Eevee hunt.

Funny story, I got Crystal on VC so I could get a shiny Celebi but then got caught up in hunting for a shiny Totodile, I hunted for two days before getting bored and hunting other things and then forgot about the hunt for a year before remembering it and hunting for all of a couple hours before finding it. I am now finally hunting the Celebi (though not as much I should because I have so many other hunts going on.

I agree, it looks great. It's a really low % in Gold and Silver though (5% max!) & I opted for Magmar looks incredible in Gen 2 as well. Crystal is the game for Houndour.

Congrats, what an amazing shiny! And getting it in your childhood copy always feels even better. I am curious though, how did you go about recording a GBC game from the original cart? I know with the VC versions it's just a matter of getting a 3DS capture card, but since the DS doesn't work with GBC games, how did you record this one? Did you dump the rom and save files from the cart and play it on an emulator, or does you modded gameboy have a capture card of some sort?

Yeah they should. Take your resets, not time. It gives a proper indication of your progress.
