Shiny Vulpix in Pokemon Silver after only 119 random encounters (Fire Monotype #2)

Finally. That's the word. Only 119 encounters on the 9th phase, Shiny Vulpix finally appeared. This hunt has dominated my schedule for the past 6 months. I never even began to imagine how many phases this would take. Despite it being 37.5% with a repel trick, I ended up finding 8 Shiny Pidgey in a row. Nine phases for Ninetales though...
Sometimes RNG is cruel but it's so worth it. Both of these shinies are incredible and I'm super glad to finally add them to my collection. I feel like Ninetales is a shiny/Pokemon that people just love overall. It's so elegant looking and really captures that Gen 1 nostalgia for me. I always used to use it on my team as a kid so it's nice to have one in Silver for my Fire Monotype challenge.
Eevee is up next. Hopefully that's a little shorter...

Hi Sonikks, this encouraged me to get a gen 2 Vulpix of my own!! I don't have Silver sadly, so I bought some Vulpix in Yellow, traded them over and did the whole shiny breeding process..... got it today in only 14 eggs! I love their gen 2 sprites so much, such an underrated generation for shiny hunting nowadays.

Congrats! I also did a shiny hunt for Vulpix recently in Leaf Green. However, I totally forgot about it can learn Roar. Sadly, my first encounter of a Shiny Vulpix ended in Roar. My 2nd attempt took me close to 28,000 encounters but I came prepared with Diglett with Arena Trap and was able to get my shiny fox.

Vulpix was my first shiny ever found, and in Silver too. I think I was running around the grass route between Celadon and Saffron looking for a Meowth or something.. found a yellow Vulpix and was perplexed.. So I caught it outta curiosity and saw the sparkles by it's name in the profile and thought it meant something special..This was years ago BTW.. and the cartridge it was on has a drained battery... so RIP

Hi, sorry if this was already answered a million times before but how do you record this? I don't think it's possible to capture card a Gameboy right? Is this Virtual Console/emulation stuff? Is the same true for your FireRed shinies?

This hunt has been stuck in my mind for so long as to why it took so long and I think I’ve figured out why. Vulpix’s gender ratio is 75% female and 25% male. And im gen 2 stat calculations are far more limited for shininess values. Overall female shinies stats are rarer to be produced than males. For instance it’s impossible to find 7/8 male shinies female (it helps saving time with the starters). So naturally this hunt would’ve taken longer because the fewer female stat variations.

Stone evos are a pain to get period in GSC, which is one of reason why I prefer HGSS. Also at somepoint I was thinking of doing a monotype fighting run for Black or White. Would've been mono fire but BW1 suffers the same issue as diamond and pearl
