@Raagz6 жыл бұрын
Perfect for home defense really. Considering once sub sonic they separate and become "less lethal". More tests needed to be done, but from what I see here, I believe they are a viable round. You should do more tests with different materials.
@bradybouteiller1166 жыл бұрын
I agree need more testing. Different materials. Different loads. Then get maybe you'll make some good money selling them haha
@vidard98636 жыл бұрын
Definitely worth testing, and it seems a vercitle hand load projectile, because it seems that if you load them backwards you get good fast scatter, which may actually keep a tight pattern down range. Or right way out which gives good accuracy, with a sort of select a size slug...

It’s definitely a neat concept.

This could be such a cool idea for so much stuff. I imagine you could change powder amounts, weights of the disks, and amount of them to make a slug that just falls apart after a near exact distance. Would be neat to try.

This is fascinating, i love the wonky weird ballistics of it all! id love to see some tests of different stack sizes and different materials like brass, copper, lead and steel, or even just different thicknesses of Al. Seeing the drywall stop an individual coin makes me think it could be a fantastic home-defense type shotgun round if you could get some consistency in when the coins separate.
@Keldor3146 жыл бұрын
I strongly suspect they're separateing as they become subsonic, in which case it should be pretty consistant. Just adjust your powder load to control exactly where this happens. Also, your barrel length is important, meaning that the point of separation would vary from gun to gun.
@Raagz6 жыл бұрын
I think they're perfect for home defense. When they go sub sonic and separate they become "less lethal" so if you miss there's a chance of no loved ones injured.

When I was a kid living in Japan in the early '60s 3 yen equaled a penny. A penny could buy you allot in Japan back then. They're close to equal now. This is the Japanese version of the mythical "Billy-the-Kid shotgun round" but replacing yen for dimes. A dime back then (1880) when allowing for inflation was worth the equivalent to $2.47 so a stack of 10 dimes would have been worth $24.70. I just can't imagine a guard loading dimes for ammo when way cheaper to just buy a box of shotgun shells.

This is a very interesting concept. I do believe you just developed a top-notch close-range frangible slug. You do need something denser (zinc discs for example :) but then you've got a slug until it goes subsonic, which disintegrates into less-lethal garbage as soon as it goes subsonic, and the best part about that is that it doesn't have to hit anything to disintegrate. Carefully calibrated loads with carefully selected discs could break apart at predictable and repeatable distances so that anything outside that distance was relatively safe, and anything inside that distance was reliably stopped. Great work, and this could be the next big thing!

you have to try with brass and copper as well as lead. I thing thin lead will deform in flight
@nonimport-ante6 жыл бұрын
you should try the stack of domes(no idea what you'd make them from) again but with a tiny dab of melt wax between to hold them together. my hope would be that they act like a slug until they hit something then break apart and scatter thus doing horrific damage to flesh without risk of over-penetration.
@RussXnimbusX426 жыл бұрын
It would be really interesting if you did a similar round with lead discs. That way you would increase the mass of the round to provide more force at close range, but the shape would cause it to slow down quickly. You might also need a plastic hemisphere in the rear to prevent the deformation of the domed projectiles upon acceleration. Or, instead of all lead, do a sandwich of lead and thin plastic discs so that the lead discs wouldn't fuse to each other. I love the exotic rounds that you shoot, but for home defense, this is one of the neatest things that I have seen! Much love!

6:37 Yen coins: "Do the Loco-motion with me!"
@StreuB16 жыл бұрын
The two Yen that separated from the stack once passing through the transonic region doing little damage. This was likely due to the coins being shielded from nearly all drag but once they became unshielded by the oblique shock envelope. They were exposed to the full on subsonic drag; so their acceleration (-Δd2r/dt2) skyrocketed instantly. This sudden -Δa caused the energy to plummet sapping a lot of its forward momentum. Sudden shock in acceleration (3rd derivative 'Jerk') causes massive losses in energy at higher velocities.

Going bact to .690 round ball which shoots better. I'm going to try the paper patching like old black powder loads to get them to around .730 to see if they improve even more. 55w weight writing paper per Lyman cast bullet guide. Just for fun low recoil loads. Try glueing pages of thick books to make them solid. Stack 3 about 4in apart and hit them. Even light loads do impressive damage with .690's.
