You did a nice job sir, slow and steady. I see a lot of people making the mistake of using an impact on and just snapping the bolts right off.

A person can buy an economical welder to have to perform this repair, a cheap one is all you need. Also, very good to have covered holes over. You can see welding BBs on the tape where it may have found its way into engine if doing engine repair in the vehicle. Overall great video.

i broke an exhaust bolt, 10mm is proud, sticking out. Because the bolt was so corroded, it broke when I undid the nut. But that also means it's set solid in the block, .. I could try with grips, but I'm thinking the weld is stronger than that? I'm worried it still won't shift.. I guess the heat of the welding helps? I can see the rocking that you did with the spanner breaks the stuck thread really well... Great video! Thanks

This might be a stupid question but of the stud is broken 3/8 in can i still weld without worrying about threads? If the build up from the weld touches the thread does it mess it up?

Weld the washer to the tack weld on the broken stud before welding the nut on. Gives you a better bite on the stud

I used an impact and snapped it off twice on my 2008 ford escape. I also blasted it all at once instead of welding incrementally. Great video im going to try it this way. Luckily i have a quarter inch knub sticking out to work with. Im using my new harbor freight unlimited 200 mig welder on 110.

I run it pretty hot when I'm doing this. I want to make sure I'm melting/welding the stud that is inside. Probably 125 Amps.

Sometimes you don't have choice, someone else already broke the bolts. But when your wanting to remove a exhaust manifold never take a wrench to it. Cut the heads off the bolts remove manifold and then start working the left over bolt out. heat, quench, wiggle over and over until they come free. I have never seen anyone able to wrench the bolts out without breaking at least one bolt.
@kevinarmstrong8645 ай бұрын
Good video I started heating the remaining bolt heads to red hot then remove carefully like you did 90 ish% the bolt comes out without breaking used to cut them off then deal with the stud. The dip stick tube is a nother problem to remove heating the block around the tube base then carefully twist it back and forth you may have to heat it a couple of times to remove .I replaced the dipstick tube when I do the job hopefully this helps someone else doing this job 😊
