Hey, short guys and gals! How do you feel about being short? Did this help you feel better about your height? Let me know!
@simulatrix6 жыл бұрын
Physically speaking, short strong guys look really nimble. The lighter weight combined with strength becomes an advantage. Especially when it comes to relative strength.
@simulatrix6 жыл бұрын
We also get a more exaggerated V-taper, due to the shorter torso length. And can seem physically strong and respectable while also not being intimidating. And short men live longer, too. And as we age, it's easier to maintain our physique. We really are underdogs.

@@PierceMcFarlane Thing is, I'm only like 11 months into working out, and I started scrawny, so I look normal/sorta-looks-like-he-works-out kinda guy. Not as big as you. As much as I pride myself in my knowledge of nutrition and the science of musculature, I've been loath to apply them fully to my workout regimen. Still being in college, fitness is not my #1 priority, and unnatural sleep patterns can screw up your circadian rhythm, and prevent proper healing after workout. However, I do workout. It's the best thing you can do for your brain, so I find it vital to stay on top of. I'll keep tabs on you for sure. I'll suggest things in the comments at the very least. I found you on r/short (good way to spread the word) and it's clear to me short men are quietly in need of support in a society that ignores them or finds even broaching it a silly topic. I think those who are insecure should seek solace in getting big and pumping iron. It makes everything better, and is a great outlet for the more runty ones like us. You start to stand out because you lift, not because you fail to meet average height. I think someone else in the comments mentioned narrow shoulders. *Sigh* From my perspective (like you explained) it's all about proportions. The more modestly statured of us are often also blessed with a naturally slimmer waist (to be capitalized on needless to say). Our main job is to not only stay slim (when we can) but to broaden the shoulders, it being both figuratively and literally the cornerstone of our physiques. As Jeff Nippard rightly explains (paraphrasing) "If I could pick one muscle group that changes your appearance the most, I would pick the shoulders." Even a half-inch of growth creates a vast change in appearance. A lot of fitness enthusiasts have unfortunately not heard of the concept of muscle prioritization (it may go by a different name elsewhere). For physique-building or strength-training purposes, some muscles should be given more time in the gym, or even put before other muscles. Lifters who forget this principle might scuplt unappealing physiques, despite otherwise impressive muscularity. Most notorious of this is the infamous Tyler1, whom I believe is 5'6 like you (google him and you'll see what I mean, I don't watch his stuff but I've heard of him). He doesn't seem to have a V-taper, is heavy around the midsection, and has underdeveloped shoulders in comparison to his arms and chest. This is not surprising given how vain he is (working out chest and arms are apparently the manly muscles, I don't know why but this is a popular notion). Jeff Nippard, on the other hand, focuses heavily on shoulders and triceps. As such, I work out shoulders more often than my other muscle groups (I'm not sure this is advisable, but I do it). Someone tell me this guy doesn't look impressive: < www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwil8YKy35HfAhVQIjQIHbDLDKEQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.muscleandstrength.com%2Farticles%2F6-crucial-shoulder-exercises&psig=AOvVaw1GUXGvOA2ucOVdQEc-riSj&ust=1544410432629499 > P.S. I consider myself a good writer ( double major in Philosophy and Applied Maths ) and would freelance write for you for $10-50 bucks here or there depending on the project. Just a thought. 5'7"- 5'11 is considered short by women because they have a hive mentality. By this I mean women and girls are constantly being bombarded and being told what is currently acceptable for their body image and what to do to get an ideal man. Women also subscribe to these mindless media, such as GQ magazine and Hollywood Gossip that show women and girls, what they have isn't good enough and use female insecurities against them to buy products to make more attractive, which in turn causes them to learn to use this insecurity against the men that might find then attractive because that is power, why, because we men don't have nearly as many hang ups about our bodies as women do. A recent example of this is an article I read online, where more girls drop out of sports then boys after puberty and I figure that girls and women subconsciously blame boys and men because girls can't seem to play the sport as well as they used to so they give up, so females might feel that if they have to suffer so should the males. At least that is my hypothesis.

Just want to share a bit of my story: I'm 5' 1" .... 24 years old. Life is difficult by just being small (or maybe it is just me?). When I was a kid I always cry at night because I feel that life is so unfair and painful for me. People ALWAYS made fun of me without them knowing that they are actually destroying me inside and making me lose confidence like it was my fault and my choice not being tall...... but, still, I always try to hide that I am hurt and just laugh it off. Everytime that I feel hurt I just make a mental note that "I will never do this to other people, it is painful" I learned valuable things because of these past painful experiences. As I grew older my respect for anyone, despite how bad their appearance is, just keeps getting stronger and better. I learned to be more sensitive about people's feelings whenever I talk since I experienced firsthand being bullied and teased about my height . What I learned in my experience so far is that I have to work and dedicate myself far, far greater than the other guys just to make up for the height that I don't have. I accepted long ago that people just can't have it all and that is life.

Thanks for making this encouraging video! I'm around 5'5" and this actually confirms something I noticed when I was in college and we had a rock-climbing gym. I would go with my guy friends who were mostly tall and it was hilarious how much faster and agile I was, even though I was less athletic and didn't lift weights. I would beat them at every timed climb by like almost a full minute. So I started thinking maybe it had to do with the fact that while climbing, my limbs are literally smaller and my frame lighter which means it's easier to maneuver to various weirdly angled rocks and pull myself up more quickly - things that my tall friends wouldn't be able to do because their limbs are too long and they have more frame to pull up. So outside of that I never really thought about how much of an advantage I can have in the gym and life and how I can embrace my height as having an advantage. Another area that can be a weird advantage is food (and drink): you see, we require fewer calories. When I was younger this was frustrating when you wanna eat out with your guy friends but feel ashamed you can't finish a massive burger and 5 beers like them... but then one day I realized that they were always spending so much money and yet constantly hungry lol. I can literally spend less money on groceries and meals because I don't need as much as them, and that's a win for me when you look at it this way! :)
@PierceMcFarlane2 жыл бұрын
That is an incredible way of looking at things! I agree completely, and I'm happy that you've found positivity in your life! I fast and do One Meal a Day occasionally, and since I need to eat less to lean out or build muscle, OMADing is much easier for me!
@aaronlowe6202 жыл бұрын
That's crazy to think about because I knew someone who was short and we were both extremely fast runners and me being, bigger, and taller I was faster and would beat him in a sprint everytime, but when it came to long distance running anything above 300 meters, I could never beat him there. I figured with my extra 6 inches in height and weight I could be faster but to cary the extra size definitely gives me less stamina.

We were so happy to be more "economical" on the dieting side, you see, to clean bulk you need to eat quality calories and the bigger guys (5"11 or more) are always heavier and need way more food, we considered ourselves as "Sport compact vehicles" and we would just laugh. Another thing thats cool of being short is suits sometimes fit fantastic out of the rack, sometimes though, not always! Also, gardening or getting into small spaces its so easy! And lastly, remember guys, Formula 1 drivers ideal size is 5"8 and below.... So we were all meant to be F1 drivers ! haha :D !

I’ve always been the shortest guy usually, especially on sports teams. I’m 5’3. In baseball, my strike zone was more difficult for pitchers to hone in on. I was a nightmare in football where I started varsity 3/4 years at RB. Hard to tackle something that you can’t see and is quick. It’s been tough being the little guy, always feeling like I have to work twice as hard to be equal. Maybe I do, maybe I don’t, but the level of heart and drive can balance the scales in your favor tremendously. I’ve never had any problems getting women. I’ve dated them shorter and taller. I even had 2 women who were 6ft want to date lil ole me. Personality and confidence is also a major factor in how people perceive you. Great vid! 💪

Idk about that one bro, I'm 5'9", 17 y/o, 155 lbs and don't consider myself short but I'm pretty sure most dudes above 6 foot would have a huge advantage over me in anything besides boxing. Taller people can support more weight on their frame, and weight classes exist for a reason. Perfect example: Francis Ngannou (6'4" 250 lbs). Because of his height and weight he has one of the most powerful punches in MMA. I don't see anyone below light heavyweight standing a chance against someone like him. (Not trying to invalidate short people btw my Dad is 5'6" and one of the scariest dudes I know)
@dzimikes3 жыл бұрын
@@crusader1777 not at all. The only combat sport where taller guys have the advantage is Taekwondo. Short people are much more volatile and harder to take down. Sure, taller guys have better leverage and longer arms,but they're easier to take down in,for example MMA or wrestling.
@crusader17773 жыл бұрын
@@dzimikes They may be easier to take down but they're harder to tap most of the time. I've heard of super tall strong bodybuilders that are like blue/purple belts in BJJ tapping black belts that are under 6 foot just because the bigger guy was able to lay on top of the smaller guy and prevent him from being able to do anything. Numerous examples out there. Again weight classes in combat sports exist for a reason, and because of there basically being a limit of how much weight your frame can hold generally there are people of similar heights in the same weight classes. No 6 foot 5 lightweights out there. I guess in a way you could say weight matters not height but again taller = heavier.
@dzimikes3 жыл бұрын
@@crusader1777 kinda. BJJ is another example of a sport that is made for tall people. Weight kinda matters,but look how Rocky Marciano and Tommy Burns did in heavyweight category. What I'm tryinna say is,it's not about size,it's about the attitude and commitment. About how hard you try. For example,look at wolverines,or honey badgers. They're about the size of an average dog,but they go agains bears and lions.
