Separate modes, pedestrians, bicycles, cars, trains, all without crossing each other. Single lane for cars, separate in each direction, avoids any conflict. Drop off zone is easy accessible and because of the single lane, merging back is fast and safe. (Pedestrians from the railway station use the passage from which the video is taken, and do not have to cross.)

No traffic lights needed, just clear rules about who has priority at that crossing. So cool!

Apparently, the kiss-and-ride dropoff spots on the right, and the taxi rank on the left, are treated as exemptions to the guideline that such roads aimed at vehicle throughput should not have parking bays directly accessed from the through road?

The kiss and ride dropoff isn't on the main road, it's accessed off a loop. The crucial part is whether or not you have to perform the process of parking and rejoining traffic in fast-moving traffic or not, and in this case you don't.

"Its so smooth that only one lane is needed in each direction" Only outside rush hour. During morning rush hour this street will get pretty stuck. Expecially when the car are turning into the side street and have to wait for people and cyclist crossing.

Indeed, too many cars are using this road close to the train station. They need to work on demand management

I need more of these “shorts”. I’d love to see in the future if you’d touch on Japanese road infrastructure and the green book for DOT policy in North America that hold back the country from building like the these more human based countries .
