Should Sabbath Be Observed By A New Testament Believer?

I keep the sabbath as a day of rest for the most part. I read the bible, watch sermons, play music, help the needy etc. I actually rather enjoy it. I'm not doing it for salvation. For that matter the ancient people didn't have the laws for salvation. It was Grace back then too. They were just laws showing how to walk out a holy life. The 10 commandments sums up Jesus command to love God and love your neighbor. Commamdments 1-4 show us how to love God and 5-10 how to love our neighbor. The Pharisees were the ones who tagged a lot of the salvation by works which to me is what we see in Paul's writings. He was a Pharisee who followed man made traditions and was teaching others not to fall into the trap of following the law for salvation as he did. We should delight in the law because it shows us what sin in. Most Christians are so against someone wanting to rest on the sabbath it makes no sense but if a store such as chic fil a decides to not be open on Sunday to give their employees a day of rest they see no problem with it. Following the law for legalism is wrong. Following the law to show God you love and respect him to me is not. It isn't a salvation issue. It is an obedience thing. I think if most christians would get that reality they wouldn't be so against it. I was against it for a long time because I looked at it as legalistic. It wasn't until I was reading a book about the ancient Israelites and "old testament" that I finally realized that Grace was for salvation from the beginning. Now I delight in having my day of rest.

Many do not seem to realise that the Gospels were operating in the old Testament, old covenant system of Israel. To establish doctrines and take instruction from Jesus ministry then is not to rightly divide scripture for today. 2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The confusion most experience is that there are 2 sabbaths mentioned in OT. One is a feast day whose purpose was to point OT to JESUS sacrifice at the CROSS. This sabbath is no longer needed to be kept. The second Sabbath is what this video explains and is specifically tied to the 4th command. Why is he comparing Sabbath to cable. he hasn't read that Jesus is the Sabbath. Matthew 11:28-30. he doesn't know that the Sabbath is in Christ not in a day. The Sabbath was a covenant to Israel not to the Gentile. very few people are going to make it to Heaven. We're going to be judged by the balances of the Sanctuary. The arc which contains God's Holy Law is I'm the most Holy place. The TEN commandments are the standard of Righteousness and by which we'll be judged. The Sabbath issue isn't debatable. God wrote it in stone. Case closed.

Sunday keeping is the epitome of works. God didn't Command 1 soul to rest on the venerable day of the sun. It goes against God. It's Cain's offering. Not acceptable. God's people Worship only Him. They Obey Him. They keep the Biblical rest day. 7th day. It's a no brainier. Pagans keep the venerable day of the sun. No Bible Authority on that. Works won't get you into Heaven. No. Just that I have paid attention to details with regards to what the New Testament instructs about Sunday gathering and what it was or is that Jesus fulfilled within the Judeo Sabbath without doing away with the law itself. Paradoxically my conclusion is that Saturday Sabbath is now a much more simple thing to obey along side Sunday congregating. But the two are traditionally divided from one another. I believe that just like baptism and the Lord's supper; Sabbath rest has spiritual benefits. It reminds us of the eternal rest we have in God's kingdom. Fasting reminds us how hungry we are for God's word. Baptism reminds us that we are both dead and resurrected in Christ. The Lords supper reminds us that Jesus took our iniquity and gave us His righteousness on the cross.

the Sabbath is a day of celebration or feasting. The specific instructions were to do no work in your household including the members of your household. Sunday is a day when the Church is supposed to gather together for an offering and a meal according to the book of Acts. What you do not find in the New Testament is Jesus doing away with fasting or Sabbath rest and feasting.

Thing about the covenant is we are under is the one Christ gave on the when he introduced it at the last supper. Every movie I think they make they have it. The painting of the last supper is one where he is making the New covenant known. My sister said she she read the bible through three times yet didn't see the scripture where Jesus fulfilled the law of the Sabbath and he said come to him for rest. I thought it was funny she said "of course you are supposed to keep the Sabbath Holy". She still didn't know that Jesus is the Sabbath rest. Keeping the Sabbath day holy was the covenant for the Jews where they did sacrifices as told in Exodus 31. Now I don't if you believe that we are supposed to still keep it holy or not, But Jesus did fulfill the feast and new moon and and of that. He said he came to fulfill. Most people want to say the first part not the last , where they he didn't come abolish the law. They won't he came to fulfill. He told everyone in Luke 24 that he did what he was supposed to do.

The only recorded sabbath kept by man was 430 years after Abraham and an Israelite. Jesus was a jew, born under Jewish law. You are not Paul has a revelation from the Risen Christ for you. The Sabbath is either a law to obey or not. There is no middle ground to stand on. If you obey a sabbath keeping law you are under that law and are required to keep it perfectly. But beware. If you are under a Sabbath law you are under the requirements of the old covenant law system as given by Moses, and then required to be under other laws. Now if you concede you are under law then you must explain why Paul says you are NOT under law but Grace. Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. The Hoax is putting People under a Sabbath law and by doing so put them under the whole law system. Sabbath has no Value for the Believer today. Sabbath law observance for sinful man commenced 430 years after Abraham. Prior to that there is no biblical evidence of man keeping a Sabbath. Today our righteousness is not evidenced in Sabbath keeping or any Jewish law. Our Righteousness comes not from what we do. We establish righteousness from what Christ has done 2k years ago, by faith alone. Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Israels Prophets were a witness to greater things to come. Thank you very much for your videos. Praise YHVH for His truth, His Holy Spirit pointing us back to His ways (Torah), just as Yeshua pointed us back to the Father. He took upon Himself the law of sin equaling death that came from us transgressing His laws and He became our sacrifice so that by His blood we are restored back to the Father and His ways. If we proclaim that we are Israel as Paul stated in Romans then we are grafted in and there is one law for all of us. The Sabbath was called a Perpetual covenant for all people, native born and for the stranger. Perpetual means forever!

Stacey, the Christians were to pray the attack on Jerusalem would not be in the winter. Self explanatory, nor the Sabbath because the Jews who did not accept Jesus as the Christ continued in vain keeping the Sabbath. They would close the gates to keep the Jews from breaking it, a "Sabbath day Journey" for example, and also to keep out the sellers. If the attack would have been on one those days, then the Christians would have been locked in making their escape impossible. But because they did listen, there is no record of any Christian loosing their lives in that attack. It was still hard on them as they made their way from Jerusalem, woman pregnant, breast feeding, robbers, etc. But the headed to Jesus and survived.

If the Sabbath day was a day of rest, then it must also be a day to learn about rest. If one should experience rest, then that one who experiences rest also learns it. If Jesus Christ is our rest, then one day a week cannot give us the rest we need. Cause God is eternal and one day is nothing to Him. Remember that Sabbath rest is truly observed when one stops trusting in anything else but Christ. This is how the Sabbath is kept in the new covenant. Old covenant only works in a theocracy. If God created and put you in a republic instead of a theocracy, He does not expect you to be able to always take a day off. My boss doesn't always let me have Saturday off. She doesn't even let me have Sundays off. So I guess I'm dead where I stand because my profession in Christ has profited me nothing and my repentance and faith was all for not if the Sabbath day commandment still stands as the law that I must follow.

Brother Ken~~ What do you make of Revelation 14.12: "Here is the patience of the saints...commandments AND Jesus"? Walking in the Spirit is simply a rationalization for believers who do not wish to keep the commandments, I mean the 3rd commandment of which we are specifically REMINDED to keep. I do not believe keeping Shabbat ensures salvation, but as God has said, doing so is a mark of sanctification. The point is you are unable to keep any Commandments. Trying to keep a law brings you under the power of that Law. What is that Power? Does it save you type Power? Does it enable you to change your behaviour type Power? No, it is the Condemn you type Power. It is the Judgement you come under. aluminumchew So when Paul writes that the Galatians will have fallen from grace for being circumcised to follow the law he was confused? Is that what you are saying. Grace simple means that you don't have to DO anything to get right with GOD which is what the LAW commanded. You had to do this or that before you could come to God. This is what grace is. Since Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law we can come directly to him we don't need to do anything, like be circumcised, or not eat certain foods. It is simple and Paul taught it. Why because Paul was the Apostle to the gentiles. When their is a change in the priesthood there is by necessity a change in the LAW.... The sabbath was a symbolic law given just for Israel, like wearing tassels. Not moral in anyway.

Jurist Thanks for taking the time to respond. I would like to address a few things. First you are absolutely under defining Grace. Grace comes from the word "Charis" from which we derive the word charismatic. This is a spiritual power to resist sin. It also means unmerited favor which is the way Paul uses it in Galatians. Secondly the issue discussed in Galatians is specifically circumcision not Sabbath observance. In fact early believers celebrated both the Lord's Day and the Shabat. You can read it very easily in history. Third is that YHWH did Not make all days the same. We see this from Genesis when he creates the moon, sun and stars in order to time days and seasons. Seasons in this context is moadeem and is the word used in Hebrew. Moadeem is appointed times. Special days and times of the Lord. The concept of Moadeem and the Sabbath were established pre-law. We know this because the new testament references YHWH's plan for salvation before the foundations of the earth. Part of that foundation is a foreknowladge of how is plan will be played out. Fourth, this video poses the question "Is the Sabbath still of value"? It posits that it is. It doesn't say it is necessary for salvation or those who do are better than those who don't. I think that would be heresy. My last point is that you say with a change of priesthood there is a change in the law. I agree, please show me a verse where out new High Priest Yeshua said Sabbath is done away with. Or any other biblical writer for that matter. The decree to officially disassociate Sabbath from Saturday came from the Roman empire. It is without dispute we have writings that show Sunday worship earlier but this is never as opposed to Sabbath. It is assumed to be in addition and with good historical reason. Roman documents show that from outsiders Christians, Jew or Gentile, where all viewed as jews to the empire since worship practices where similar. Christian persecution in Rome largely started after the church broke off from 1st century Judaism since jews were protected for fear of a revolt would cut off a major trade root from the empire. For myself I don't keep the Shabbat. I celebrated it. I keep things I'm afraid of losing like keys or a tax form. I celebrate what I have and what brings me joy like my wedding anniversary. The Shabbat brings me joy as it declares the works of my God's hands and that he sent his son to personify those works and to gove me rest in him. I never fear because I don't celebrate Sabbath I lose my salvation in Jesus. I maintain that scriptural ignorance from the body has driven jews away from their Messiah. It's not the only reason but it is a significant contributing factor. This can be seen throughout history. I do not mean to be hostile and I apologize if I came off that way. As for Sabbath I believe what Yeshua said "man was not made for Sabbath but Sabbath for man" not jews but man. I disagree with this video in that I feel it would be ok to do something on Shabbat other than just study and pray. Thanks for taking the time to read this book.

aluminumchew Well I would have to say that I disagree with most of you "Points". First if Grace was the spiritual power to resist sin then NONE of us would sin. So it can't be that. Paul taught the gentiles and he did this after God cut off Israel for unbelief. You can read about it at the stoning of stephen. Got when from law to GRACE that day. Why could he do that? Because Jesus Christ fulfilled the law, ALL of the law. So now you can come to God by faith in his son. NO works. Secondly, it was not just about circumcision, since circumcision is a synonym for the law. Paul taught that you could eat ALL foods which the Jews couldn't. Paul was even accused of teach his converts not to follow Moses and he didn't deny it. The reason they heard that is because it was true you just have to read his letters. Third, ALL days are the same as Paul wrote. The sabbath was a sign give to Israel alone. Signs are symbolic and are not inherently moral, which is why the symbolic laws sometimes conflict with one another. Inherently moral standards or laws never do. Forth, symbolism can be of value but it is not inherently moral in any way. Fifth, Paul wrote that ALL days are the same. Paul was pained that his converts were so easily swayed to follow the law. Galatians 4:9-11 (NKJV) 9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years. 11 I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain. Here Paul is telling them that all days are the same. Romans 14:5 (ESV) 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. And again Paul rebukes his converts for following the law the symbolic laws. Colossians 2:16-17 (NIV) Freedom From Human Rules 16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Sorry but I just don't think you understand it all that well. Also you think that death and disease and suffering and sin were part of some plan of God's before he created the world? Your kidding right? Now with that belief I would bet that you think God is outside of time correct? Thanks

The Lord gave the church commandments to keep with all seriousness and DIRE warning. *All those who deliberately refuse to obey Christ's commandments to hear and obey his church will be cast into hell* Christ's *Test commandments are to hear and OBEY his church and to Love the members of Christ’s own body, the church* . *Christ commanded with all authority to ALL Nations to hear AND Obey the church* That is scripture! And, it comes with the most dire warning. Matt 18 verse17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church BUT, *IF he shall neglect to hear the church* *Let him be unto thee as an heathen* (A PAGAN ) man *and a publican* (AN UNSAVED SINNER ) *Then Christ explicitly gives the absolute authority to his church* 18: 18 *Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven* *It is this very authority that the cults abhor* *Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft* *Therefore, Christ does not accept your Sabbath keeping*
