Should truck drivers live below their means in 2024?

Word. Dave Ramsey’s book Total Money Make-Over teaches these principles in steps. I’m about to go OTR with no homebase for an entire year & no debt. Going into a No-Buy Year, meaning I don’t buy anything I don’t need. Only saving & investing. Without a vision or dream written with a plan, it’s simple..no plan no clear vision. No plan is a plan to lose. Always tell your money where it’s going. 💎

I think it depends on your situation if you got debt to pay off, absolutely. But if you paid off your debts then I'd say start taking an advantage by adding multiple streams of income to set yourself up for financial success.

I think the truck driver should bc you never know what tomorrow will bring. Like you said, only live off your 40 and put your over time to the side or invest.

Doing this living beyond your means is an ego killer and most people can’t do that. Majority of people have such a big ego to the point where they don’t want to down grade to the Honda because they feel they too good for that. But I agree with this video in order to have a greater financial future people gotta make better choices and stop trying to keep up with the jones

I hear no lies in this video! Personal finance is truly personal so I like how you touched on the fact that there is basically no one size fits all plan when it comes to finances. You have to work the system that works best for you and your family but living below your means is a tried and true plan that can and does work. It’s definitely been helping accelerate the debt pay off and after that, it’ll be on to purchasing a home 🫡💯

Truckers should live AT their means. Too many live above and that is only digging yourself a hole you'll have to crawl your way out of. If you're gonna live below your means, I'd say you've got a goal your working towards. I live below my means cause I still carry student debt and a mortgage. One day I plan for that to change. Save for the future, best you can.

Reading books like “The Millionaire next Door” by Thomas Stanley and watching Dave Ramsey videos gave me the motivation to live below my means. I used to make $40,000 a year working at a hospital then I started trucking making $85,000, but my expenses have stayed the same, and I still live like I make $40,000 and save/invest the difference. It takes discipline but it’s worth it. Especially when you hear your coworkers complain about all their bills, meanwhile they have a brand new pickup truck, new motorcycle, new RV I just shrug my shoulders at these people. Discipline equals freeeom

His cash flow must be pretty high, but he probably could get a very nice car cash. 24k a year in an auto payment, is a little wild, I’m not gonna lie. That just shows how being in debt can make people who are poor give the appearance of wealth. Not saying he doesn’t have the cash, but just something to be mindful of.

I'm a GFS driver out of New England and up here we are on hourly pay but we have been hearing that we are going over to component pay soon and drivers are freaking out about it. How does the breakdown look for component pay is there a daily minimum? Apparently we were the only region on hourly so this is all new up here

Anybody can drive a BMW. Do you mean owning a BMW? Either way, that’s a foolish comment to make. There are a plethora of people who own a BMW who can comfortably afford to own a BMW. The type of vehicle or asset that an individual owns doesn’t automatically mean they’re not living below their means. Everybody’s financial situation is different so without knowing someone’s personal financial situation, it’s ignorant to make that assumption. I don’t think you know the true meaning of “living below your means”. By definition, To live below your means is to never spend more than your total earnings.

@imanthonytv BMWs require an extreme amount of maintenance and care. A lot of engine parts (i.e. water pumps) are made out of plastic. Mechanics charge a ton of money just to run diagnostics on BMWs. Owning a BMW is a waste of money in terms of long-term ownership. FACTS.

@6lemans10 I’ve owned mine for years. Had a few minor repairs over the years. Getting regular PMs is essential. Anyone who owns one should know and be prepared for the maintenance costs of owning any foreign vehicle. Again, everything I stated in my first comment is FACTS.
