I am an American when I visited India I was really taken back at how friendly everyone was. It was quite refreshing having so many people genuinely interested in getting to know me, and acted like I mattered. Then I went to Korea and the entire country ghosted me. Different cultures with different perspectives and mannerisms.

Even our very close friends were one day strangers in school, college, office etc. To whom we decided to say hello or talk to. So this makes sense. 😅😊

I worked in France (nantes). what surprised me was that over there whenever I met any one, they would say "Bonjour" or Good night depending on time.I picked that habit too and would say same to everyone. Even younger girls would say same. I tried that in Canada and did not work. But I do smile at strangers and some times that leads to a small talk.

I am an Indian Tamil or Tamil Indian. We always strike a conversation in train and buses. It happens in North India too. It happens in the United States too. People are people everywhere. But it doesn't usually happen in the airplane. As we go up economic ladder, we slowly become inhumane. However we find that the children are prey in social media. Why? Because we the adults exploit their innocence and the natural and God given inclination to the other or strangers. In Tamil Nadu the biscuits-thiefs killed this natural inclination. The social media thiefs kill it. We need this natural inclination. We must periodically promote this culture

The scientists shall NEVER define the term "STRANGER" in their thesis. A stranger shall be anyone ranging from a friendly neighborhood store cashier to a veiled murderer. Will those scientists recommend their children to practice what they preach??? Thanks, but NO!

People in southern Europe and many other places (Africa, etc.) still talk to each other (incl. strangers) a lot. Does it give them a cultural advantage? Maybe - but loneliness seems like a difficult thing to measure. I agree most people (certainly in the US and northern Europe) are lonely and shouldn't be, and to my mind it is the bourgeois individualist ideology of capitalism that has most of the blame for this state of affairs. It simply sells more goods to force everyone to have their own house, their own car, their own dishwasher, etc., etc., even though it would be so much more social and cost-effective to lead collectivized lifestyles in many aspects of life. Capitalism needs loads of (actually unnecessary) middle-men to make profit, and therefore make sure to maximize the conditions for profit at all levels of society at the cost of regular people and their well-being. We're being oppressed.

We were taught in our school to say hello to everyone we pass by , be it they are strangers . Our school's father Father Phillip Puttetupadavil taught us n i inculcated this habit . But it seems when in delhi you speak to strangers , especially women , it's said that those women are characterless. Very weird thing I saw in delhi . Whereas in North East India it's not such .

Why to make everything official and under government programs. Let people grow themselves, judge, take initiative for their own personal life. Government can’t take responsibility for each and every situation in your life. Its earth and you are born here to live your life
