Same... And at the same time asking myself if watching this video to confirm if I'm a narcissist is too self centered hence confirming that I really am

I was groomed by a covert narcissist for 10 years, I think for me the most dehumanizing and distinct behaviour he repeated was that he would talk me in circles, gaslight me and break me down with little comments over time until I stopped believing in my own experiences. I thought I was crazy, I began recording our fights to listen back to just to see if I was making it all up in my head, and when I confronted him about it he would then berate me for recording him without his permission. I wouldn't wish that kind of abuse on my worst enemy, to feel like you cant even trust your own head, it strips you of your own humanity, and is a calculated way to make you easy to control.

Yes this is what narcissists do after coming in a relationship...try to make you feel like you're crazy, you're the one who's guilty....but I'm really glad that you eventually figured that out. Hope that you're doing fine :)

I don’t often comment on KZbin but I have to say that after recently breaking up with my girlfriend of three years, this video really helped me understand what I was going through. When my friends told me she could be a narcissist it lead me here, and it truly opened my eyes. Thank you.

The lack of empathy was the worse part for me. I was going through a lot with my family and he literally laughed about it. He said I deserved it because “you always get what you want.”

Being BPD and having trauma from narcissistic parents, i often find myself mirroring the behaviors i saw growing up. I am very thankful for this video for not only the reassurance but also helping me to be more self aware.

Steph Anya's therapist advice on "Signs You're Dating a Narcissist" is crucial in helping individuals identify the red flags in their relationships, and take the necessary steps towards healing and moving on from toxic patterns that can cause long-lasting emotional damage. This is an insightful and informative video that can truly make a positive impact on those who may be struggling with narcissistic abuse.

Steph, I see some of these traits in myself. My dad was untreated bipolar, mom wasn't able to protect us and I had to be the adult in the house for as long as I remember. I envy everybody around me and I know I built my worth a lot on being the fixer. I wanna spend more time around my brothers whom I deeply love, but it's exhausting trying not to be so controling all the time, so I rather see'em less. Could you make a video on having narcisistic traits yourself? Thank you and thank you for the channel. I like watching different psychology channels, and you always bring something new.

The last person I dated (we were together for 7 mos and she lived with me most of that time) FELT different. She literally aged me. I felt horribly drained and physically not well at all. Nauseous. Triggered. More angry/upset than I have ever known myself to feel. It was magnetic but like lightning or getting electric shocks. So many signs of narcissistic tenancies. And overall, I FELT CONFUSED. And even now, 3 months of no contact later, I am still questioning if I am narcissistic. I don't have a great, solid sense of self and I feel I look to my outer world for validation and to understand who TF I am. I look forward to truly letting go of all of the shitty things she told me about myself - but the truth is, I believed them. It's like she saw into me and drilled away the confidence that I had worked really hard to build up in my life. Oof. I feel for folks who are in these type of dynamics for a year or longer. It is soul sucking! I'm grateful to have gotten out cause it really messed with me.

6. Can also be other things. I had to give up my friends as those relationships were shallow and there was no room for me to share honestly what’s going on, recovering from heavy trauma. Also cut off all mean people, all frenemies. I finally woke up and opened up my eyes.

DAMN, this is crazy, this video made me realize that maybe one of my ex friends is a narcissist, everything lines up with they’re behavior, they were so draining i was so vulnerable and fragil everytime we hung out, it was a fucked friendship, thank god it ended. Now i understand why they didn’t keep friendships for long 😮‍💨

Agree with everything but the friendship part. It’s hard making friends, especially when you’re in your 30s especially after you have let go of toxic friendships. I have to learn to trust myself again.

Looking at this on the outside of my sisters relationship with her partner it does confirm alot of the things I've suspected. My sisters partner is abusive verbally, mentaly, emotionally, and sometimes physically because I have heard it for myself.

This made me feel so confused because my mother has narcissistic behavior. But also a few older siblings and a partner. I swear I can't tell if I'm a narcissist or copying behaviors after being surrounded by the behaviors.

im surrounded by narcissist since a younger age, and being an narcissist my self i felt isolated. The Moment i started meating up with emphatic people i felt like a different person ,it felt so scary to know what an Actual narcissist some people Can Be, i see how others explain it like suffocating, exhausted feeling 😢 but for someone like me being surprised for so long and actually finding peace some of you have to understand the pain of both sides

I dealt with a monster like this he made me leave my hometown and my place to live with him then he left me stranded in the middle nowhere lost my belongings and thankfully got helped me get to a sherrifs office who got me a train ticket back home to my place and back to family and he doesn't feel bad one bit no remorse no empathy but says he still loves me i forget he held so hard that it hurt me in a car that i had to removed my hand or how he shoved me or how he rolled his eyes when i cried im glad god removed that demon out my life. I am so traumatized by this experience that i dont believe in love anymore and just want to remain single for good.

It honestly seems to me like I could be a narcissist or atleast have some traits of one. This video really reminds of my first gf and how it all went on. Most of these traits I can see in myself and also my father. I knew there was something wrong with me and I told myself I'll go see a psychiatrist (still haven't). Guess this is the best time, I am sorry for hurting anyone intentionally/unintentionally

I am so scared that this is me. All of these traits explain family members I know and so I think I hoped that I was not like them. But being in a long time relationship I’m seeing how much I seem to be the only one being very angry and sad in our relationship and I had to see here if maybe I may possibly be narcissistic like my family is it hereditary?). But I don’t know if I trust myself to just diagnose myself like that lol

At one point, started counting the minutes until & number of times in one chat that my parent (overt narcissist) would stop talking about themselves and ask me a question that was not about them/allow me to participate in the convo. Highest in 7 years was 2 questions (how are you & how do you feel today) and only took 12 minutes after the “discussion” (monologue) began. Some of these would last 6 hours. 😂 Established good boundaries so now I can look back and just laugh thankfully.

To young men, words to look out for (not comprehensive) - Mental load, emotional labor, hidden labor, ‘my truth’, patriarchy, golden retriever energy, NARCISSISM etc. For the last one ‘narcissism’, do your own research into the traits and behaviors. Ask yourself as honestly as you can, which gender do you see exhibiting these behaviors as part of what is considered normal. The bottom line is that women just CANNOT be at fault and cannot be found to be initially idealizing, devaluing and discarding you as a man (despite how common that is to see). Anything heading to question women MUST be twisted in a different direction.

2. Not necessary, they also listen very carefully to study you and your weak spots at first. They talk too, but it can be crazy making word salad, with interesting concepts and words, but not much insightful meaning and coherence. It’s usually fast talk that makes your head spin in confusion.

Another thing to note is it’s much much easier for those who are neurodivergent to be victimized by those who are narcissistic. I’m definitely an example of that. My ex was a raging narcissist and I didn’t see it until it was a bit later and luckily I got out before it was too late. Much of these things were seen and the fact that he had a record he spun in his favor. He was “fighting” for his children that were kidnapped by his ex. The mother ran. Got a protection order and he was paying child support. There’s a whole books worth more. I added a 5th protection order 😅
