I am a poster child at 69 for exactly what you are talking about. I saw at least 3 dieticians along with countless “diets” all my life. All to no avail, UNTIL, I did my own research and just winged it. I spent most of 2023 researching and trying to control glucose, Uric acid, paid for my own blood work, teaching myself to read blood work. December I did get in with a functional medicine Dr. and am finally fixing gut issues. Long story not short, glucose , Uric acid, homocysteine, lipid panel, most numbers optimal. 62 lbs that I’ve carried all my life, gone. Almost no sugar, no ultra processed, no soda, and minimal alcohol.

No matter how many kids you had it used to be that food (gathering, preparation, cooking) was a full time job. Until we get back to that human health will remain poor. Until parents can refocus their household around food as the primary activity, rather than an afterthought, families will not be healthy. I always say if your food is an afterthought so are you.

We are pretty much sugar/carb free. Carnivore-ish lifestyle works so well for us. Most people can't moderate, so eliminate is the way. We wouldn't tell an alcholic to just moderate.

Exactly my experience. Tried keto for almost two years but kept having outrageous binge sessions every two or three weeks. Finally went carnivore (carb abstinence) and it did the trick. No more cravings or binging. My wife can moderate. I cannot. Kinda' sucks but it is what it is.

I had my Wellness visit yesterday walked in there with a list of blood tests that I wanted my doctor to do things that I learned from Dr Berry and I insisted that they do a fasting insulin test since they're doing my A1C and she says half of these things we don't even have in our system so I can't even order it there's no coding for them in our system I looked at her like you got to be kidding me so now I've got to go to a lab and pay out of pocket to get an insulin test done and any other blood test that I want done because I don't even know what kind of medicine these people practice. After the conversation with her she said you would probably do better with a functional medicine doctor I said what the hell is that I never heard of that it's kind of like the Alternatives you know a naturopath somebody that actually goes into the complete picture of the whole body like an Osteopath. But my last doctor was an osteopath and she didn't do these tests either. Medicine in this country has gone to hell. In fact she wasn't even going to do a blood test yesterday she wasn't going to test my A1C and I said to her well last time I was here I was pre-diabetic I want you to humor me and test my blood please so that I can know for a fact that I've actually reduced my diabetes. Unbelievable!

I hear you! I have experienced the same. My endocrinologist said "Don't watch so much You-Tube, it's annoying! ". They just want you to take your pills and come back in 6 months. I am in NY State. If Doc doesn't order it, I can't go in and request it out of pocket. I'd be happy to pay for the test. She ordered a Dexa Scan to test bone density. I said "since I am being irradiated anyway, can they also test visceral fat?" This is my ENDOCRINOLOGIST ...and she said "Why do you want to know that? EVERYONE has visceral fat. No ...this is not the same DexaScan that measures visceral fat, only bone density." I don't even know if that's true. Does anyone out there know? Please comment. I cancelled the bone density test. I know my bones are strong on Carnivore.

@KCCATS - mmm...well, why am I NOT surprised by this.😊 BUT! at least you are aware! Aware that you need be proactive about your health and what kind of biomarkers you need to monitor. And NOT just trust that your conventional Allopathic physician is up-to-date on how to create health, and not simply 'treat' disease. (NOT really a case of not being up-to-date, but more like the HMO physician has their hands tied That's what we currently have in the U.S., 'sick care', not 'health care'. And, it is a direct result of the HMO - 'managed care' system. HMO's ultimately 'manage' the physician (NOT our health & wellness). The HMO manages the physician's time, salary, their narrowed down 'treatment' & 'diagnostic' options for their patients - and it's all tied in to the pharma industry, the medical insurance companies, and the 'bottom line' $$$ for the HMO. This is why the Allopathic doctor in our health care system is hardly allowed to think for themselves, but rather is 'managed' by a corporation that dictates what they can and cannot provide for their pts. Maybe try putting something together that's a mixture of the limited biotesting your physician can offer - and then also utilize one of the DTC (direct to consumer) medical testing companies to fill in with the more comprehensive (new era biotesting that's largely unavailable in our current Hmo system). You can get biotests like HGA1C, and the fasting glucose testing you asked for (was it fasting glucose - or maybe, insulin)? IMO, it's very important to do a fasting insulin test. A Fasting Glucose can look normal...while a fasting Insulin will reveal a more comprehensive picture of what's going on with both glucose and insulin. The Insulin test is 'specially important for an older person - as with age - our insulin sensitivity tends to be reduced, sometimes to the extent of developing Insulin Resistance. Some of those medical testing companies do have M.D.s on board to help interpret the biomarkers they test for, and can offer some lifestyle & diet strategies , even pharmacological intervention (I think), to help us optimize our health. I can think of 2 of these DTC med testing companies off top of my head 'Levels', and 'Inside Tracker'. (Also just spotted another couple fm Google) - siPhox Health (go to phoxhealth.com) - that one looks totally like home testing (?) No idea if they have advisory M.D.'s on staff, or not. Thorne health also has a DTC testing co - found that on Google. I forget the name, but I think they are also 'at home' test kits. Inside Tracker sends the client to a med testing lab (in your area that they contract with - or we have the option to have a professional come to our home to administer tests). Ditto (I think) with 'Levels.' So those 2 would, I think, be pricier than the 'at home' test with their kit, type of testing. I do know that Inside Tracker, and Levels, have good reputations. You can also order a CGM tracking device from both these companies. (To track your blood glucose at home). You maybe could get a CGM from your med provider, but only IF you are Dx'd with diabetes. (but even at that - they'd probably set you up with an at-home test kit (needles & test strips)...bc well, they are antiquated and 'cheap', lol. I think you can get a Levels discount from Dr. Gabriel Lyon. (Listen to her Spotify podcast - heavy ads fm her sponsors- one of which is Levels - pretty sure she offers a disct code for them. Ditto with Inside Tracker - an Andrew Huberman discount with them.- mentioned in most of his podcasts. Hope this helps😊

@@LaurieR2255 I believe that the X-ray machine to view bone density and/ or visceral fat is the same. i.e., don't need a special DEXA machine to view visceral fat. But! It's the radiologist who is reading the x-ray that is key. Also, WHERE the x-ray is directed makes all the difference. Obviously, if it's directed to the hips it's not going to give a view of the abdominal area. Edit: on 2nd thought, I may be wrong about this (positioning) -it's possible that the entire abdominal area , from hip to hip, is x-rayed in a top-down view - so that the abdomen is included in a standard bone-density DEXA scan. In THAT case- it's the radiologist interpreting the results that you want to also have assess your visceral fat. I 'spose it's possible that the every-day Radiologist either can't be bothered to assess VF ('that's not my job!') OR, that it takes a Radiologist skilled in evaluating VF fm a DEXA. This could be why you were told you'd need a special DEXA machine to view V/F! Actually, per Dr. Sean O'Mara a CT scan is better. (Good luck with getting a CT done, though, lol) Your endocrinologist sounds like the typical head-in-the-sand Allopathic doctor in our 'sick-care' system. Sure, everyone generally has visceral fat (to some extent). But, many have excess visceral fat causing metabolic health issues. And excess visceral fat is toxic. See what YT interviews you can find of Dr. Sean O'Mara. He's all about the dangers of visceral fat, and how to detect it - reduce it. Find him on YT. He also has h8s own website. He will tell you how/where to go to get tested. ALSO, I just learned (Google) that he has a FB instruction on how to measure VF at home, with a simple measurement tool. Realizing yoy may have (excess) VF is really very simple, though - if your abdomen is convex, rather than flat or concave, when lying in a supine position, you have ( probably, excess) visceral fat. He has also stated in many if his interviews, that anyone with 'love handles' has excess visceral fat. There is also the tool he shows in his FB post that we can use at home to measure progress (loss of visceral fat) over time - once we've put measures into place to reduce it. (Sort of like we measure our weightloss on a weight scale - except by inches with this tool, rather than pounds.) He strongly recommends 'sprinting' to reduce visceral fat Don't let this scare you off...there are many different way to 'sprint' - racing all-out on foot, on a stationary bike, a cardio machine, etc. It simply means ALL-OUT exertion 'high intensity- for a number of seconds/minutes - then stop. Start up again all-out exertion- rinse repeat 4-5 times - a couple/few times a week. To find out more about this at-home measurement tool to measure your VF, Google 'Dr. Sean O'Mara visceral fat' The following website should show up... 'Facebook - Dr. Sean O'Mara' Then, under that you'll see..." DR. SEAN O'MARA HOW TO EVALUATE VISCERAL FAT FOR FREE..." Click on that website (no need to log into your FB - I didn't need to - and, viola you should see an image of him using this measurement tool - with a 'how to' text beside it. Hope this helps😊

That's so cute. I think we were craving the probiotics and enzymes and it smelled so sweet years back. My mom said she came from the store one time and I was about 2 or 3 and she put the butter on the table. When my older sister called mom, so she went to her, but by the time she came back to the kitchen I was sitting under the table and I ate the entire stick of butter, LOL she said I looked so cute. My face covered in butter and I was finishing the last of it, lol The thing is, in the old days, the butter was real, made from milk cream that is on top of milk, full of nutrients like pro and prebiotics and enzymes, minerals and vitamins, the butter now is fake and has no flavor or scent. Unless you are buying the European butters, especially Kerrygold Irish, or some others, and not even the ones in my Polish market are all great any more. I lifted the little side to sniff and they have no cream scent. I won't buy it if it doesn't, because it's just lard with food coloring. I love Kerrygold the best now.

My health insurance suggested I pair up with a dietician network, the minute I spoke with her I knew she would not be able to help me get well. I knew more about what each vegetable does for the body from my research and study, whereas she just kept telling me stuff like don't eat fried foods, don't eat greasy foods. Yeah, it's obvious, I was raised on eating delicious vegetables, my mom is Polish and she was always obsessed with eating healthy so we ate homemade food only and mcdonalds or chinese was one time a month, or even occasionally, but I have also been studying nutritious benefits of foods for over 30 years for my children and I, and here is this 20 year old acting like she knows it all. I was so aggravated, I told her not to call me any more. Maybe if she was more open to listen, and work with me, but she was not knowledgeable at all and so obnoxious, and tried to shut me up when I was talking to her. Nope. Thanks but no. The attitude of most of them needs to go too, because people are not dumb and they live in their bodies. Many of us do our own research and just because its not in a school, or for a degree, it does not mean we didn't do it very well.

Cook your own food is fabulous advice! Also, have your children learn to cook even if it is hot dogs, hamburger patties and eggs the way they like. All of those are easy and will give kids confidence in cooking and in helping the family get food on the table. Years ago, children cooked part of the meal, it gave them skills so that they could control some of what they ate, instead of being at the mercy of restaurants. If they start making hot dogs or boiled eggs at age 10, by the time they are in college, they are so good at cooking, they can use all their brain power for study, since they can almost cook in with out thinking.

I've been keto for three years, ketovore since August. See an endocrinologist for low T3 & T4 which has improved. 67 years old. I had to ask her to order an A1C...Trig/HDL ratio is 1.1. (79/75)But AIC was 5.8 I was pretty shocked it was that high since I eat so few carbs. She would not order fasting insulin. Neither would my primary care doc. (also young...32 years old!) but he did label me as "prediabetic" adding it to my hypothyroidism and hypertension. (Which only happens at his office) Your information on trusting in the ratio has slightly put my mind at ease, however it is very frustrating that they will not order the test so I can get some idea of which way things are heading. Also not sure my stubborn resistance to weight loss that landed me on Levothyroxine and Cytomel is really hypothyroidism, but was possibly insulin resistance all along. This interview was amazing! Thank you!

Fastest way lower your insulin, to get over "insulin resistance "is cutting out carbs since you don't need them especially if you have high blood glucose. I don't see "insulin resistance" as a disease like is popular right now, it's built in protection for cells to keep extra fat storage from dangerous places like your brain and leads to Alzheimer's eventually starving the brain that would have survived that long without the ability to resist the glucose/toxin.

I hope this helps someone... We eat only to provide nutrition for our bodies, if we keep eating junk, our bodies are NOT getting what they need, so our bodies keep craving the nutrients, and people who do not eat fruit and vegetables and healthy grains and nuts, will keep having cravings, because the body is looking for the nutrients it needs and the packaged junk does NOT provide anything natural, even the vitamins and minerals are lab made, not from nature. Eating junk does not provide our bodies with the tools to heal, to repair, and to function and thrive. Our bodies are bombarded daily with toxins from our air, water and foods, they are constantly trying to repair and eliminate, but they can not, if you also eat big meals at night that are nutrient void, you are just making your body work very hard, your body can not rest and sleep when all your major organs are working, trying to digest and eliminate the garbage you just ate, without any fuel. Nutrients are the fuel for all our organs, brain, heart, kidneys, pancreas, liver, all of them, for our immune system and every cell in our bodies to do their work, if you just eat junk they are running on empty and still trying to do their job, which is why so many people have non alcoholic fatty liver, and gall and kidney stones, our organs just can not work efficiently without the nutrient fuel. The bottom line is, "we eat to provide nutrients to our body", that is the only purpose of eating, God just made the live raw foods delicious so we can enjoy it, because He loves us... not just to stuff ourselves with just anything, our bodies also crave the foods where they remember getting the nutrient they need and got before. Please start learning to eat more raw vegetables and fruits and leafy greens, even juice if you don't like eating vegetables. And never use synthetic fats like margarine, or canola, or corn oil, and use only organic corn starch if you must, because there is a company that put pesticides right into the corn DNA and it causes leaky gut. Any conventional (meaning not organic, or non gmo) corn will be killing your good gut bacteria, and will completely destroy your intestines. All the crops are also sprayed (doused) with pesticides and glyphosate which is horribly toxic and cancer causing. The Genetically Modified Crops are corn, canola, soy, cotton seed, wheat and alfalfa, which is what dairy cows, all cattle and chickens and turkeys for the food industry are fed, and we will get sick from eating their meat, or drinking their milk. Please go to eatlocalgrown and find a local farm, or farmers market to buy your foods. If there are non, please, please just make sure that these crops are organic, like get Bobs red mill flours, only get organic corn, or corn flour. Remember to check the ingredients, and other ingredient list on the back, do not just trust what they say on the front.

Grapeseed oil is an industrial SEED OIL. All seed oils are horribly toxic. Soybean oil, safflower oil, sunflower seed oil, cottonseed oil and even olive oil is not to be trusted because lots of brands are a combination of olive oil and a seed oil. I use butter, tallow (beef fat) to grease a pan or bacon grease or duck fat (from health food store.) READ INGREDIENTS. All traditional mayo is made from soybean oil, unless from a healthy food stores & be sure to read ingredients. Mayo made with organic avocado oil is acceptable. Avocado is a fruit. I have to never eat anything with seed oils because of the terrible reaction I have. I wake up hungover the next day, without drinking alcohol. I don't recover for 2 days. I think because of the pesticides used on plants that seed oils are made from as well as the process of heating the seeds and using hot metal machinery to smash the seeds is what makes them bad. As well as just the fact that they are seeds, makes them bad. Almost all restaurants everywhere use cottonseed oil now, because it's cheap

Hi Cynthia, I would like to make a possible correction. You stated if your Triglycerides are over 100-150..... you've got some work to do.... that's not true for lean mass hyper responders, if I understand Dr Felman and Dr Berry correctly. Mine are 123. A1C is 5.0 HDL is 83 and my LDL over 400. This was taken at 2 months strict carnivore... down 10 lbs with 15 more to lose when taken. Do you think this is an issue,I might be misunderstanding something.

Lmhr have trigs less than 70. Trigs high as yours can mean you're eating too much fat, it's not just carbs. If you overeat your energy requirements, that can cause issues. Once I lowered my fat intake my trigs dropped. I am doing keto, almost carnivore. Also if you are fasting and losing weight trigs can go up temporarily.

I think if someone like you is metabolizing and burning fat there is more fat moving in the blood and that can raise triglycerides but for the typical beginner what they're saying is normally true.

You need an advanced cholesterol test call 😊’NMR Cholesterol’ test to find out if you have LARGE FLUFFY particles (good) or SMALL DENSE particles (bad). Also will tell you if you are at or near insulin resistance

lower trigs are associated with a Carnivore Diet. you're body is still adjusting after only 2 months. exercise? fatty fish? eggs? meds? are you using cooking oils? after 6 months, "If you’ve properly fasted and still getting high triglycerides check your thyroid function."
