I swear dark souls lore can be so weird at times. You play the game and you think these are mondless beasts that wail on you and kill everything in there path, but then you read there item descriptions, look deeper and scan the enviorment and then you realize that these bosses or enemies actually lived under some type of rule/government. And because of the undead curse it makes kingdoms fall and eats at the sanity of these figures. While the kings fall to the ring, you have the some of the left over people trying to get by and live in a broken and decrypted area that used to be home. We never get to see the civilization, just the aftermath. As if the player is born by the curse, to end the curse, then to restart the curse.

That's a neat thought. I figured the Demon Prince was just the one being when Lorian fought him, and the thing we fought was some other nonsense happening haha. But it might not be that much of a coincidence, seeing the parallels.

But the demon from below and demon in pain didn’t merge their souls, the reason the last one remaining out the two becomes the demon prince is because just like we ash seek to link the flame, demons wish to link the chaos flame. The soul of a Demon Prince states: "The Demons birthed from a common chaos, share almost everything between them, even the pride of their prince, and his near faded flame. So that the last Demon standing may rekindle it.” So we can assume that it is simply from the fact that demons share a universal essence, one of the demons could conjure the demon prince. Not really the same thing as Lorian’s soul being closely knit to Lothric’s as a result of the latter’s curse, but an interesting suggestion.

I need to disagree with theory about "Ashen One being Ocelotte" because of 2 things: 1. Princes have their unkindled/undead associated with them: Orbeck (with possible mission of assassinating them? He admitted he was/is an assassin from dragon school) 2. Since we're unkindled - this means that we are from some past event, where we were supposed to link the flame and become the Lord of Cinder, but we failed. This also means we cannot be from Lothric times/timeline because Prince Lothric isn't a Lord of Cinder - he refused to become one, even though it was his fate (which means that in theory, there might be only one "Chosen Undead" or more like "Chosen Soul" to link the flame). Besides, if the Royal Family was so obsessed with linking the flame, don't you think they wouldn't let some mere pleb come by and try to link the flame instead of Prince Lothric and get all the fame? In conclusion: - Prince Lothric was the destined Lord of Cinder in Lothric Flame Cycle, but he "failed" by simply refusing to become one, - The Firelink Bells start ringing, and succesful Lord of Cinders come back to life to rescue the Flame, but they also fail (Yhorm refuses, Aldrich being Aldrich and Abyss Watchers failing to wash their clothes when coming back from the Abyss) - The Bells ring one last time to call upon failed Lord of Cinders, the Unkindled Ashes, as a last resort of restoring the cycle (there are also some normal undead, but that doesn't matter, they have other mission). So there's no possible way, in my opinion, that The Ashen One can be somehow related to Twin Princes. P.S.: Sorry for English, not native language. Also sorry if you don't catch the meaning of what I said, possibly it's just a gibberish that only I understand and I didn't really make any point, even though I thought I was writing something detailed and stuff.

Possibly, but I want to mention that if we don't kill Orbeck (even in Lord of Hollow Route), then he still dies after we defeat Twin Princes (we can also summon him for this fight). Plus even if he dies after Twin Princes and we pick up his ashes, we can still give them to Yuria to get Morion's Blade. In other words: There's nothing so far that could hint orbeck wanting/being in mission to kill us (besides, we're not even known to the world, we're failed ash - not something the Dragon School would bother with)

Kothimir Kothimirovic I don't think he was sent to kill the player just that it may be a roll he would take up. Like hawkwood is not brought back to kill the other Abyss Watchers he is just connected to them. If that makes sense? And it was just something to think about I don't have any real reason to think that Orbeck is your connection to being Ocellote or that your character is even connected to Ocellote just wanted to provide an alternate theory to think about.

Orbeck is not unkindled. Onion bro, Hawkwood, Anri and YOU are though. If every assassin that set out to murder some lord would be revived with the bell we would have hundreds of ninjas waiting at the door to oceiros boss room. Anyways , Prince Lothric did not even burn himself so I don't understand why he is considered a lord of cinder, he should simply be a "Heir of Fire" like the rest. But Game theory has a pretty solid theory that explains who the main character of Darl Souls 3 is and it is probably the most accurate theory we have.

The cut oceiros audio isn't actually cut at all, people just expect that if it was in the game it would play above the music like all his other mid-fight dialogue. Recently while fighting oceiros I've heard the sounds of the baby crying then getting smashed. It played while oceiros charged around the arena. It was just at a very low volume compared to the music, the game sounds, and oceiros screeching.

I think the sound you're talking about is just part of Oceiros's SFX, he himself is making weird noises during the fight. The cut clips are very distinctly a baby crying and then squishing noises.

What has happened is that the sound of Ocelot can be heard, but the original clip Silvermont refers to is actually a much more drastic clip where Ocelot can be heard dying. We can hear Ocelot cry and possibly in the clip in-game, but Ocelot's more serious death sounds are omitted. I think Ocelotte had been abducted during the civil war and sacrificed to the flame, and as a result, Ocerius went mad and replays the events when we enter the boss room. I think he believes that Lothric and Lorian have already been sacrificed, and he defends Ocelotte as they are the only thing he has left. Pretty sad.

ever since my first playthrough i had the theory that oceiros fused his soul with ocelottes, much like lothric and lorian did, but since ocelotte was just a child their physical forms merged and (since ocelotte is refered to child of dragons i assume he was experimented on to have dragonlike features or was actually partly crossed with a dragon) oceiros got traumatized by this process, so now hes a guy who absorbed his baby and forgot about it but still imagines his child being with him since his mind couldnt cope with "destroying his last hope of a worthy heir".

That's a pretty cool concept, even more so if it either a) drove him mad b) he didn't realise what he had done, and that's why he's searching for Ocelotte. He can "feel" Ocelotte's presence, but he can't see him because it's uh... inside him.

Exandil item descriptions on him say he was a chosen undead whose fire keeper died before he got to firelink, so he became the challenge to test those who would try to link the flame to test if they're worthy, while he is a "failed lord of cinder" he has a purpose so he wouldn't go hollow

Not a terrible idea, but only lords that refuse to take the throne have Unkindled sent to them. Rather, it's more likely that the player is the Unkindled of Lothric and Lorian, specifically the idea that we may have once been Black Hand members, former assassins answering to the royal family of Lothric and serving as the nation's 4th unknown pillar

Lachie Playaplaya but lothric never linked the fire so he can't be a lord of cinder, plus how would the universe (or what ever causes this to happen) tell who too and not too resurrect as a unkindled (I might be thinking to deeply on this but still)

The reason Aldrich, Yhorm and the Abyss Watchers were all called was because Lothric refused. He was next in line to link the flame, and this is something most characters in the know are aware of. At the end of the day, his soul is strong enough to link the flame and it is his duty, he just refused. In a sense he is meant to be lord of cinder, he just hasn't done it yet

Your Theory about the unkindled being Ocelotte's reincarnation was one sentence away from a further revelation: Once you complete the game and link the fire, you prove to be the achievement of the Lothric family's hopes and dreams. The Ashen one becomes the great soul the Royal family had been hoping for all those generations ago. Ironic though that none of the family live to see it, nor recognise the Ashen one for who he/she truly is.

nah, I don't think the ashen one is Ocelotte, even though it's a neat theory. If you pay close attention when Oceiros goes to phase two it seems that he smashes the invisible baby to the floor.

Yeah, he's definitely flipping out and either forgets about Ocelotte 'cos we keep prodding him, or just decides to drop him. It was such a bizarre idea/concept, that whole fight, I'd love to see what they say about it in a Design Works interview. But as for invisible babies, it's not like that is anything new - Priscilla is a crossbreed who can turn invisible, after all.

There's been this thought in my head for a while and I don't know if anyone has made this connection yet or if this has been proven to be wrong. I think High Lord Wholnir might be the chosen undead form DS2. If you look at his story it is closely related to what we do in the second game during the DLC, find 4 kingdoms, take out their kings and make our own "Kingdom" from their power as we rest in the Trone of Want. Not only this but, why the connection with the fear of the Abyss? In the "good" ending of DS2 we are considered a Lord of Hollows therefore the connection to the Abyss can be made. My thought is, what if he was put in game just to say "This is what happened to the Lord of Hollows, he did not escape the curse, simply, he went mad and the Abyss swallowed him whole." There's also the fact that the only item you can buy from him is his crown, which was the item that held the King's power in DS2. I know that it's a weak connection but I feel like there might be something there

The Scholars from the Grand Archives house Gertrude as we can visit her cage. Not only does this mean that they may have been protecting her, but it is also mentioned that the Scholars themselves have knowledge of the past, especially when they themselves taught Prince Lothric (there are also Primordial Serpent statues everywhere). We can assume that this is where he started to abandon the idea of linking the flame and letting the world go dark. The Angelic Faith led by Gertrude as told by the miracle "Divine Pillars of Light" was started when an "Angel" visited her ... from which we can assume it was an Angel from the Ringed City or Londor ... leading to the "treacherous ideology" and causing the Lothric Civil War. With the Lothric Knights fighting against the Winged Knights (who followed Gertrude and the Angelic Faith). The Hunter's ring is also found on a corpse which we can assume was from a member of the Black Hand sent to kill Gertrude but stopped by the Winged Knights we face on top of the Archive.

It does seem sort of realistic that Oceiros was holding the baby during the battle, someone probably already took notice of this but look at how his left arm is positioned, it looks like he's cradling a child. Who knows maybe Ocelotte is just some kind of figment of the consumed king's crazed mind, who knows maybe the crying is just what he hears but it's quite obvious that he believes he's holding a child, saying at the start it is all that he has, the way his arm is positioned like he's cradling a child. I haven't even played DS3 I just recently started watching DS3 videos and I found Lorian and Lothric to be interesting.

Just found that, which may relate to the original cut content story of DS3, and I guess it's in this Story that Miyazaki found the Idea of the name ''Lothric''. The story of “Sacnoth” begins with the village of Allathurion suffering from bad dreams; the local magician finds out that they were sent by an evil wizard named Gaznak, who lives in a fortress that cannot be successfully invaded except by the wielder of the sword Sacnoth. A young man, Leothric, asks further about Sacnoth, and the magician tells him that it’s a piece of steel in the back of an iron dragon. To defeat Gaznak, Leothric has to kill the dragon and have Sacnoth forged into a proper sword; then he has to make his way to the wizard’s castle, and overcome all the obstacles therein. Finally, Leothric fights the wizard himself sword-to-sword, and defeats him. At which point the glory of the fortress vanishes. The angel knights broke away from the kingdom when one of lothric's female relatives was imprisoned in a cage at the top of the archives. U know where the three golden angle knights are and the spell u get look closely in that cage and you'll see feathers

So just want to talk about your point on us being linked to the princes, I think that we the player are more linked to Soul of Cinder then the princes and that mostly comes from the fact that Black Hand Gothard is found at Grand Archives,now he is dead which makes us need to do it so I think maybe Gothatrd was originally linked to the princes but since he died we just had to do his job for him

I do think that we are Lothric's unkindled in a way, every other lord had someone summoned to fight them as you said, and Lothric is in a way the end to our quest and ultimate goal...but Ocelotte, that's an interesting thing to bring up. It seems so much of Ocelotte was cut, there is even a baby texture in game (although if something is cut, i guess it no longer counts as lore) So maybe our relation to Ocelotte is ours to choose. Maybe we are him, maybe we are a reincarnation, maybe a caretaker etc. My personal guess has to do with that second shrine being right behind Oceiros, I can't claim to know everything about the weird timeline and all...but maybe we are in essence the Iudex Gundyr to Champion Gundyr? Something very similar and connected, but in a lot of ways very different and distinct. In any case, probably gonna have to name my next character Ocelotte now.

Cut content is always hard when you're talking about lore. For the most part I like to bring it up and add it to the equation, but I don't consider cut content canon, most of the time. There are a few examples where I might however: Oscar's name, for example. His name is only ever brought up in cut content, as otherwise he's just "Knight of the Asylum" but I think it's okay to go by the cut content considering... well, it's just his name, haha

Am I the only one who thinks that Oceiros already experimented on Lothric and Lorian? I mean, look at their creepy fingers, how pointy they are. They very much look like Oceiros' but less advanced. He probably tried a few things and perfected it with Ocelotte. Another reason why Lothric could be against anything to do with lords and fires.

But it's implied in game (no description) that the pilgrims become angels. The angels are most likely from Londor. And Manipulated Lothric alongside with the Scholars I mean their room is filled with feathers so as Gertrude's cell.

i think that the winged statues are of kathee, the "angels" are ilusions make by peregrims before they become peregrim buttlerfys, the "angels" spare kathee word in lothric and that created the angelic faith

I'm 99% positive that the baby crying sound effects aren't used in the fight, are you sure you're not thinking of the noises that Oceiros himself is making? Prior to the fight, he's wailing, and then during it he makes various screeching sounds. But the actual baby sounds aren't ever used in the game, although they exist in the files. I just went and looked at my own footage and several other clips on YT to make sure, and that's definitely the case. He never linked the fire as the whole plot revolves around their refusal so while he becomes one after you take his head he is not a Lord of cinder in the same way as Aldrich yhorm and the abyss watchers who have 100% linked the fire. The bell doesn't revive lothric because he never burned to begin with

To me an important point that is made about 'Ocelotte' is the 'his' mother the Queen of Lothric "After giving birth to her youngest, Ocelotte, she is said to have quietly disappeared". Who is to say she didn't disappear with the child and that the 'Ocelotte' we hear in game is not part of Oceiros, the Consumed King's insanity. If the Queen left with the baby after the birth it is possible that Oceiros never knew the child's gender. Perhaps 'Ocelotte' was the name Oceiros wished to name his third child and with what happened to Lorian and Lothric would it have been a wonder that their mother would want to shield their baby sibling from that.

Presumably Lorian was born without the trait Oceiros / Emma were looking for. Who can say what that was? You know how they put babies in machines to weigh them and stuff after they are born? Perhaps they had a soul-measuring device and Lorian was found lacking, so they popped out Lothric who was a lot more to their liking. Yet Oceiros then goes on to have Ocelotte, who he seems far more pleased with, or at least the idea of him. Seems Oceiros might've thought a human/dragon hybrid was the key. Shanalotte was supposed to be something similar, although she was a "failed" creation.

Im like, 99% sure that it was other way around, and it was angel knights who was on lothric's side, and wanted to help him bail from the linking, and loyal knights/priests/assasins that wanted to make him do his duty. Notice that those of angelic faith wear blue capes. Also, angels most probably had something to do with Londor, and its piligrims. Frampt had no reason to hide his identity, as he was a well-known figure, and as he himself claimed, a friend to Gwyn, linking of the fire was official agenda in Lothric kingdom, so why would he need to pose as angel to endorse it? Im sorry, it looks like you missed on this one.

It could be worth pointing out that the Lothric Knights seem to have a passing allegiance to the Nameless King / Warriors of Sunlight, which could further reinforce their disinterest in linking the fire. " Armor of the Winged Knights, who swore themselves to the Angels.Worship of the divine messengers was viewed as heresy in Lothric and unrecognized by any of the Three Pillars of rule." The three pillars all seem to be on Lothric's side, to me. Possible exception of the priestess as she wants Lothric to link the fire, Emma at least.

Silver Mont pillars are divided. Knights fight on both sides, and not only winged knights on the side of angels. There is infighting amongst the assasins, scholars are probably the ones who told lothric to not link the fire, and most of the church defected to Aldrich. But it all boils down to that: canonical faith of lothric is faith in gods, royalty, and the linking, while the angelic faith is AGAINST lothric's royalty(except princes, ofc) and was ourlawed. Why did you think their roles are reversed? Also, there's a bunch of feathers in prince's room.

"lorian's crown bears a passing resemblance to the dark sun’s" it literally does not, its supposed to look like flames. they have nothing in common between being metal and spiky which is a trait of most crowns, and eye-covering headgear is common among dark souls characters. lorian's not unkindled, unkindled are a specific kind of undead who, in the past attempted to link the flame and couldn't do it and were raised when lothric refused to link the flame. ocelotte's crying is clearly audible in-game, I'm not sure why you're saying it was cut ??????

That's why I said "passing" resemblance. That means they are slightly similar, not identical. One's a sun-shaped crown that covers the top half of the face, the other is a brass helmet in the shape of flames that covers the top half of the face. In my opinion that's a passing resemblance. And it was a different thing I was referring to that was cut, I wasn't clear enough on that point.

Also, I'm thinking that the ''unspeakable means'' could mean the use of the transposition Kiln, maybe they use the Kiln to coalesce a very strong soul, (Gwynevere, Seath, Gwin??) into a human beeing?? One other observation that I made I want to share with you is that i didn't saw in any DS3 reddit posts or lore video, is the fact that lothric castle is in essence build around Seath Grand archives of DS1, I know that time is convoluted, and lands are converging, but the fact that lothric castle is build around the Duke's archive, could well explain the ''bastard's curse'', and the thing that most of the old gods royalty has emigrated from Anor Londo to Lothric.

Regarding Prince Lothric's curse, it seems that the Royal family instituted selective breeding and even arcane arts in order to produce a perfect heir to Link the Fire. I am under the impression that, when the Twin Princes were born, Prince Lorian was selected to inherit the throne of Lothric while Prince Lothric was intended to be sacrificed to the Flame. However, as the Fire faded, the desperation of the King and Queen grew. At this point, I believe, they opted to involuntarily merge the souls of Lothric and Lorian, contrary to their original design, to supplement their chances of producing a better soul to Link the Fire. I'm guessing Lorian eventually acquiesced to this arrangement as it would lend his great strength to the frail Prince Lothric. Afterwards, of course, the Twin Princes refused to become Lords of Cinder, banished their parents, and awaited a final end to the world. Note: Lorien's armor has a slight resemblance to the Dragonslayer Armor, further implying a connection to Gwyn's Royal Family. While we know the location of Oceiros, the Queen remains a mystery. The best theory I have is that she is Rosaria. For which, the best evidence comes from the Obscuring Ring: "It is said that Rosaria, the mother of rebirth, was robbed of her tongue by her firstborn, and has been waiting for their return ever since." What's so telling about this description is that the term "firstborn" is then referred as a plural in the form of "their," thus indicating that her firstborn children were twins. I can think of no other connection than the Twin Princes. Concerning the Lothric Civil War, I believe the opposite. I think the Lothric Knights remained loyal to the kingdom's principle of Linking the Fire, as symbolized by the red cloth on their armor (which is associated with Fire, as implied by the deacon robes). Those who wear blue, like the Angel Knights, are those who, I believe, are aligned with Prince Lothric and Dark. This, to me, seems to be the case based upon the abundant angel iconography associated with Londor and the Dreg Heap, alongside the abundance of feathers within Lothric's throne room (likely from slaying them). Furthermore, the Angel Knights were denounced by the Priestesses of Lothric, who are the representatives of the Way of White (or some derivative). As such, I believe the blue-clad knights serve Prince Lothric, the red-clad knights serve the ideals of the Three Pillars, and the Angel Knights serve their own agenda that is, perhaps unwittingly, aligned with the Londor's Usurpation of Fire. Based upon the existence of Priscilla, Shira, and Yhorshka, I think we can safely assume that the bloodline of Seathe the Scaleless is thoroughly intertwined with Gwyn's lineage. That being said, it seems that Oceiros epitomizes the manifestation of Seathe in the royal bloodline based on his in-game form and his apparent vulnerability to madness. I think this is the explanation for Lothric's vaguely draconic features and Yhorshka's admission that Gwyndolin is an actual familial relative. This provides justification for Oceiros's assertion that Ocelotte is a "child of dragons." The sad truth of Ocelotte is that he was removed, probably late in development, likely due to concerns of the content being too extreme thus the writers left us to contrive an explanation. While I earnestly commend the connections you've drawn, I simply believe that Ocelotte probably perished of natural causes long ago and that the infantile cooing and crying are the mad attempts of Oceiros to convince himself that this child, his final hope, still lives. Note: Ludleth has no specified Unkindled associated with him, though Friede is a possible candidate.
