Why don't you build a MAM at the crash site, throw the hard drive in and deconstruct it again? It will continue researching as long as you have another MAM somewhere (like in your base). After 10 minutes you can repeat that at the next crash site.

Actually, what I've found is there are crash sites that require a higher tier item in order to open it. Like, I opened one yesterday located on the East side of the map that needed some power (67 MW) and 2 Turbo Motors. The Turbo Motor is more or less as high as we go for the moment. It ranks as the highest earner at 456,056 points per item and has the AWESOME sink spitting out coupons like a squirrel on acid. So, it's not so much that the crash site hard drive will only offer items from your current tier, but the game also ensures you must be in a higher tier in order to access a particular hard drive in the first place. Other crash sites demand Crystal Oscillators, AI Limiters or Heavy Modular Frames, which are also higher tier. This attests that the game only wants you to access those sites at their tier levels. In fact, the particular hard drive I mentioned gave me the option to get the alternate turbo motor recipe (Turbo Rigour Motor). This didn't surprise me, considering I had to give it 2 Turbo Motors in the first place.
@bufmouse134 жыл бұрын
the harddrives output is random, but some crashsites wont allow you to get their hard drives until later which is why he suggested bringing beacons. but the possible recipes that show up dont have anything to do with where you got the HD they are random based on what is available.
@Hexalobular Жыл бұрын
But AI limiters, Heavy Modular Frames and I think Crystal Oscillators can be found at crash sites, so they don't strictly limit you, you just have to collect and carry around the high level tech you find at other crash sites. (I thought Turbo motors could be found at crash sites as well but I haven't found any so far this playthrough.)

Another reason to research Hard Drives early is that there are a couple of inventory expansions that only become available when you run out of alt recipes to choose. (Actually, when there are 2 alts left you get a choice of them or an expansion.) (According to the Wiki one of the inventory expansions requires Tier 5) Also, make sure you sink an Awesome Coupon for an extra fun surprise (don't waste the coupons to actually buy the item until you've got everything useful.)

The alternate recipe you unlocked for the plates, my assumption is you would need Mk3 conveyor belts to be able to feed 250 screws per minute, right? Unless you manually loaded batches of 500 screws at a time into the assembler, which would be required during early game play.
@Scalti4 жыл бұрын
Correct. The point isn’t so much to unlock the recipes and use them right away but more so to research HDDs early game to skew the randomness of the three offered alternates in your favor to have them ready. If you waited until you could build MK3 belts to research the drives, your chances of hitting an alt recipe for a specific item (like the reinforced iron plates) goes down because there are more things you’re able to make and more things you can get an alternative recipe for.
@bitharne3 жыл бұрын
Pro-tip: build two assemblers and crank them to 55% or so then belt two mk2s. It’s actually cheaper on power and you can afford the machines

I got the cast screws which make screws from iron ingots instead of iron rods which is a god send
@bloodypeanuts25934 жыл бұрын
That poor doggo, this is possibly the first satisfactory video that ever made me cry. I will say that I'm a little bit conflicted about this alternative recipe for iron plates being better. Sure it's less machines at this step, but almost one and a half times as many screws. That's more machines for making screws, more machines for making iron rods if you don't have an alternative screw recipe, possibly more miners to be able to get the extra or you need, and after all of that you have to have at least Mk 4 belts to even be able to put in screws fast enough to use the machine at full speed
@bloodypeanuts25934 жыл бұрын
As a side note to the disagreement here, I don't want to sound like I'm all criticism! Absolutely love your channel and the aesthetic of your factory builds, You've inspired me to take my normally spaghetti-brained factories and take the time to sit and focus on making something aesthetic, and through all of your tutorials giving me great tools to do so. I find your content extremely relaxing to watch and even extremely seasoned satisfactory players will be able to find some neat tips in all of this
@Scalti4 жыл бұрын
All good! Always appreciate feedback. Makes for good conversation. You’re right if you don’t consider other alt recipes. Steel screws are amazing with the bolted iron plate however and really reduces the space needed. I haven’t delved into full alt recipe systems enough yet to really speak in absolutes but from initial looks it seems like an amazing solution.
@Keschnarf3 жыл бұрын
@@bloodypeanuts2593 It's only about 40% more screws with the alternate reciepe for the reinforced plates: 60 screws/min for 5 plates/min times 3 to get 15 plates/min equals 180 screws/min with the vanilla receipe versus the 250 screws/min with the alternate reciepe. So in total you can save up to 22 MW of power (2 constuctors = 8MW / 2 assemblers = 30MW). :-)

When you see a recipe that allows you to produce screws directly from ingots early game, then take it. :-D You basically have to do some math, to determine which is better than what you currently have, there's no way around it. There's two recipes you want if they show up, because they only exist as alternates. These are Compacted Coal and Turbofuel.

You would need like 5+ extra constructors to make all those extra screws and plates no? Great video tho
@powerpc60373 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. I'd rather build 3 assemblers which in total need only 36 screws instead of one assembler that needs 50 screws to produce the same amount of RIP. In my opinion, that was a bad recipe. Of course, you require less power to run one assembler compared to 3, but instead you need more miners for the extra iron ore, more smelters to get more ingots, more constructors to make iron rods, more constructors to make the screws and more belts. I'd rather have the casted screw recipe, then you can eliminate iron rods in that production line, saving power while needing the exact same amount of ore and ingots and producing the exact same amount of screws. But still, good tutorial for newcomers.
@constantin-adrianprisecari53793 жыл бұрын
@@powerpc6037 Good catch, the main carrot is you make plates 3xfaster (with overclocking becomes crazier). it is not easy to feed 50 screws per minute on a newb starting factory, when you already have a mumbo jumbo of things going. But, it saves time for getting plates to unlock everything faster - and build everything on the side. at the same time, the other 2 options he got here were kinda bad, too. low level items that you can already mass produce easy with little power involved and don't have to mix up your ores on the belts.
