For anyone wondering, yes you can swap the Clutch and Brake pedal placement for easier left foot braking. No modding required. You simply need to disassemble it and slide the pedals off and rearrange them. Just make note of the black spacers between the pedals. One is a slightly different length than the others (middle sized spacer) and if you put that one on the wrong rod it will not fit back together correctly. I never use a clutch, I mainly race GT3 in ACC and doing this made my left foot braking so much more comfortable. A lot less strain on the hips and legs.

I know these are very much “mid tier” pedals when considering the more expensive alternatives but I hesitantly ordered these last night before bed. I woke up this morning, feeling the weight of regret but after watching your glowing review, I feel a lot better. Hopefully I’ll be seeing these in the mail over the next few weeks. Thanks for your analytic and thorough review. Others feel like they’re just reading spec sheets and buying into the marketing hype. You really make high quality videos and these are extremely useful. Not only do you review the item in question in a traditional sense (ie. how the pedals work in-game), you also review the technical and mechanical side, give insight onto the mounting and things like that, that really make you wonder before you buy. Because, not everyone has professional grade mechanical engineering skills, let alone the tools for the job. I'd hate to buy something just to find out, that I'll need a hydraulic drill and a milling machine for the thing to mount. Your videos really help in fleshing out getting the thing you bought into actual operation (or in some cases, maybe realizing that this product would not be for me anyway). Thanks for the video, hopefully I'll be getting these pedals for Chrismast.

Little tidbit of info for new owners: the three red screws on the footrest *should not be removed*, ever, by Fanatec's own guide. They are extremely soft, and prone to being ground to powder with very little torque applied. Should that happen, Fanatec will *not* cover the specific issue under warranty (i.e. the screws stay stuck.).
@Smokabis2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that this is quite accurate, I will explain. I have the inverted version and have removed mine for mounting multiple times when servicing and cleaning without an issue. In the V3 manual it does say that the red screws must not be loosened which are both on the footrest and the side of the unit holding the frame together. "NOTE: Red screws of the ClubSport Pedals V3 must not be loosened." (pasted from the Fanatec V3 manual) On the inverted version all of these screws are black so the manual is a bit more specific about which screws not to loosen. The only reference in the inverted manual to screws that should not be removed is to the screws on the either side of the unit that hold the frame together. "NOTE: Frame fixing screws of the ClubSport Pedals V3i must not be loos-ened." (pasted from the Fanatec V3 inverted manual) If the footplate was not intended to be removed then I think they would have mentioned this in the newer inverted version of the manual and wouldn't have changed the wording. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for the review! I'll add my thoughts on the brake pedal. This was my first load cell pedal set and I was having a hell of a time getting a good feel for the brake. The stock elastomer set up preloads the pedal pretty hard against the mechanical stop, which makes a very unrealistic and troublesome dead zone at the top of the stroke. You must overcome the preload force before the pedal moves and that initial force registers on the load cell in a very non linear way. I replaced one of the original elastomers with an aluminum bushing and trimmed the remaining elastomer by about 5mm and then adjusted the preload so the pedal just barely touched the mechanical stop. Feels and works SO MUCH better now, with a realistic progressive stiffness and nice and linear force response! If you have a lathe or 3d printer, don't waste your money on the brake performance kit! If you're looking at buying this pedal set, plan on doing some DIY mods or paying for the brake performance kit. I'm very impressed by these pedals but the brake is pretty lousy as it comes from the factory IMO.

Brake pedal stiffness is all subjective. On all the F1 teams the mechanics can easily adjust the stiffness and how much travel the driver wants on his brake pedal. I like medium stiffness and about medium to long travel. Some drivers like little to no travel, some like a lot. And other racing series where the teams buy the cars the brake pedal travels more than how you have it. So to be honest I’d have no issue with setting these up to how I like it. Thanks for the detailed review. Number 1 sim racing reviewer out there

Kurvz: I'm considering the purchase of either the CSL-LC or the Clubsport v3. Knowing you what know now about both pedals - which would you advise buying? (Of course the CSL's are less expensive, and I really like the flexibility of moving the pedals closer or farther apart; but the build quality and dampening options of the v3 really appeal to me too.)
@Kurvz5 жыл бұрын
@@eduardol.4831 I would say that the V3s are obviously the better set but not by a large margin, if your budget allows then go for the V3s, but the CSL LC kit is awesome for the money withe csl you can move the position of the pedal arms which is awesome which you can not with the V3s you can only move the pedal faces. I have the damper kit of my brake pedal and I really have adjusted to suit me nicely, the only grips I had with the CSL LC is the loadcel bushing could be a bit stronger as I had one explode on me I am very hard on my pedal mind you, but I contacted Fanatec and they sent me a new one, I have kept the CSL as spares should my V3 need to be serviced or repaired, so in general the change from CSL to V3s was not amazing as the CSLs do the job again if budget allows the V3s IMO but you want be left short with the CSLs.

I have them for some 2500 hours grinding them at ca.40-80 Kg load at nearly every turn. The only tiny problem i noticed was the pin that attaches arm to the pedal. The sucker actually started twisting slowly due to stresses and went out of the mount hole on one side. When i pulled it out to see whats going i saw a mark in printed from grab screw that secures it. What i did was to file a notch in that pin where screw could recess. That was the only problem and i pushed them so far that the brake pedal plastic add on broke from stress recently. All 3 pedals share common axis that is a solid piece of steel but I think it is chromed just like the pedal arm rod i mentioned above. The pedals are mounted using brass or bronze slide bearings which should be the only thing that wears down. In my opinion I could go like that for another 2.500 hours before the play becomes too big and u would need new bearings. The whole package is made of solid quality materials so if anything happens in 5-10 years u can add some design alterations to make it run. EDIT1: THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE WITH CSL ELITE WHEELBASE I WANT TO ADDRESS AS I THINK IT CAUSES PEOPLE PAIN IN THE ASS. MICRO FUSE INSIDE IS SO MICRO THAT IT CAN LOOSE CONNECTION ON THE SMALL TABS IN THE MOTHERBOARD (OXIDATION AND THE FACT HOW SMALL THE CONTACT SURFACES BECAUSE WHAT ELSE) WHERE IT SEATS. WHEN IT HAPPENS IT CAN SEND SOME VOLTAGE OR NONE AND IT IS INTERMITTENT. IT WILL TURN OFF OR WILL JUST TURN ,,ON'' LIGHT DURING POWERING ON PROCEDURE. I WAS LUCKY TO MEASURE IT WHEN THAT INTERMITTENT FAULT OCCURRED AND IT SHOWN ONLY FEW VOLTS. THE SOLUTION IS TO TAKE OUT FUSE, REMOVE SOCKET FROM MOTHERBOARD AND JUST SOLDER IN SOME AUTOMOTIVE FUSE. PROBLEM NEVER CAME AGAIN - IT IS A KNOWN OR MAYBE I AM WRONG AND IT IS UNKNOWN SUPER COMMON ISSUE THAT FANATEC WONT FIX. WHEN I SEND AN EMAIL TO FANATEC ABOUT IT THEY SEND BACK THUMBS UP SIGN AND THAT WAS IT. THAT IS WHY I AM GETTING SIMCUBE 2 - FUCK FUNATEC www.banggood.com/HS-912-Medium-Waterproof-16AWG-Wire-In-line-Car-Automotive-Blade-Fuse-Holder-p-1034232.html?gmcCountry=IE¤cy=EUR&createTmp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8ZHsBRA6EiwA7hw_sVkq9vA6IUF8xwobJ1-9NIS_2CxXE-MVGD28J4bnBeVBLKKaXooRTBoC6GAQAvD_BwE&cur_warehouse=CN

An alternative method of getting to the brake piston is to just remove the 2, five mm allen bolts on the ends of the crossbar in the bottom that actually holds the pedals. It'll take the pressure off the pedal and you can quickly remove the piston and change the dampers. Then put it back in, it lines up easily and then bolt in the bottom pivot tube...

I have a question: Is it possible to swap Break and Clutch Pedal Position? I have a budget Rig with a bar, which holds the wheelbase and Its exactly in the middle, so braking is really really uncomfortable. With thrustmaster Pedals it was easy just to swap the springs in the clutch and brake pedal and configure the clutch pedal as my brake pedal in Assetto Corsa Competizione. Can you judge from your hands-on experience with the pedalset, if that is a manageable task?
@bobbychilds30805 жыл бұрын
The brake performance kit and stiffer clutch/throttle springs are key with this pedal set. Even using the softest combination of elastomer springs available with the kit is a massive improvement over the factory foam in the brake.

Hello, sorry for my English, I have a question: Could the throttle and clutch be repositioned to make them inverted? That is, the throttle take them to the left and the clutch to leave it on the right. It would simply be to remove them from the piston and exchange them.

Hi Barry, have you ever tried to change the clutch spring to the stiffer one? I tried this yesterday with my 2-day old pedals and got quite desperate because one of the screws that are holding that block in the lever does not come out. One side worked fine, but only when i hold both screws simultanously with two screwdrivers. The opposite one turns without getting loose, because something in that block turns with the screw, as if the screw is in a socket that can turn inside the block. When I put the opposite screw in again and twist it, the other screw also twists (difficult to explain in english because I'm a german guy ;)). Can you check this?

Yes, this is an issue with the clutch block. The sleeve that the screws go into rotates freely. And it's hard to get both screws out, as if you loosen one, the other just spins sleeve instead of backing out. I would get 2 nuts that fit the screws. Remove one screw and thread both nuts on it. Re-thread the screw into the sleeve a bit. Then tighten both nuts in a locking configuration against the sleeve side. This will require 2 wrenches. Once done, hold this screw with a hex wrench as you loosen the other stuck screw with another hex wrench. Finally, loosen the 2 nuts and you should be able to remove the screw as it is almost all the way out anyway. Hope this makes sense.

I just ordered these pedals cant wait to try them out! Its a shame they don't show the aluminum plates on their promo shots of their website. I thought it they were modding plates.

Is there not a higher chance of banging and damaging the sensors in use if they're attached on the side of the pedal arm? Better to be placed behind the mechanism in a system that doesn't move any wiring in operation.

The problem with these pedals is that the CSL-Elite LC are 100-150 cheaper, and are just as good. The hall affect sensors are crap though. They are influenced by dust or random crap that sneaks into pedals, and tend to be filtered a lot, giving less resolution to what the raw counter says you have. They also tend to give spikes as they are getting older, or with interference from other electronics. These are the same sensors they already used on the V2 pedals, and already there they weren't that good. If you are in the USA it's better to save a few bucks extra for the ProtoSimTech pedals, as they are much sturdier, and better build. Everywhere else I'd go for the CSL-Elite LC and save a buck or save more cash and get a set of HE Sprint (if you can get them).

Thanks for the detailed review. I just ordered the V3 pedals and will mount them to a Simlab P1-X. I've heard the red screws on the heel plate are somewhat challenging to remove and was wondering what tool you would recommend to do so?

Having started sim racing less than a month ago, I have learned so much from you. I love these pedals. I like watching even if it’s something I know I will never be able to afford. Thanks Barry!

Hi, was the red adjustment ring turned out the furthest possible? Because it doesn't look like that in the video and could be a lot stiffer that way. Otherwise if that's still not stiff enough they sell the brake performance kit with stiffer rubbers.

Yes, I did run it all the way out. Still too soft for me.

I got them as well and if you use the racing shoes and turn it up to 5 then it's really like in the real race car! 🤩👍🔥

Yeah, disassembled my v3's to adjust pedal faces, brake pedal throw and tension and gas pedal throw and tension plus grease everything and found out that gas pedal hall effects magnetic pin if removed is not easy to get it back into the right position. It was a nightmare lol.

Nice review! For heel and toe with shoes it's a lot easier with the D shaped pedal face on the brake, the shoe will not stick as much to that and a smaller surface, for the throttle I use the long, stock pedal face. And the brake performance kit makes the brake feel a lot better! Will be interesting to hear if you find it worth the money to add the damper as well to the brake performance kit.
@simracinggarage30265 жыл бұрын
That's one of the benifits of this pedal set. Lot's of tuning options. Allowing most to get these dialed in to their personal preference. Preliminary findings indicate the performance kit is must have for drivers that prefer a stiffer brake pedal for proper brake pedal modulation. The Damper...not sure yet.

@@simracinggarage3026 Yes, wasn't that happy with the stock feel of the brake, but with the performance kit I really like it! Would love to know if the damper kit will add anything to the feeling! :)
