My 1408 is not forming any stitches. I've change the needle twice and there's no problem with the bobbin. I've been using it for two years and this is the first time I encountered this problem.

Sooo I can’t my manual so this is my best option. I rock a 1409 and I’m wanting to sew spandex. I can’t quite figure out how to make it work. I’m trying variants of zigzag stitching, but I’m doing something wrong. I’m too blind to my errors. 🙈

Hello, You may need to use a Ballpoint needle for the spandex you are using, as it is a stretch fabric.

Hi Emily, usually if there is an issue with the top thread it is caused by the bobbin not being corrected threaded or loaded. It could also be that you aren't catching the tension disc. I would recommend rethreading both the top and bobbin from scratch as the first troubleshooting. Thanks, Jo

Hello, both are great machines, however, the 1409 is the model up. With 9 built-in stitches and some other additional features when compared to the 1408.

Do you have a manual? If so, it's on page 50. If not, look at the back on the top right. There is a screw. Take it out. Remove that section of the housing. Unscrew the bulb and replace with the same type, 110 or 120V or 15 watts. Replace face plate.

Hello, yes you can sew sequined fabric with this machine. Ensure that you remove the sequins from your seam allowance and avoid sewing directly into the sequins as they will cause bent or broken needles.

Also make sure your bobbin winder is to the left, it won't sew in bobbin winding mode.

Hello, all of your needles fit the 1408. The size and type will depend on your fabric choice. If you are using a regular cotton / woven fabric the NG2020-90 is a good choice.

You will need to remove the bobbin case and shuttle assembly; You will also need to loosen the needle clamp to remove the old needle. I can provide a step by step process. Hi Ruth, you can check the machine isn't in bobbin winding mode and the bobbin winder is to the left, otherwise you may have a thread caught somewhere - try cleaning out your bobbin area :)

Hi Keethu, each stitch sees the needle go up and down twice to complete a stitch. If you have a thread caught in the bobbin its because the stitch has not completed and been cut off midway - simply turn the handwheel toward you until the needle reaches the highest position.

Hi Izzah, this machine doesn't have an auxiliary spool to hold 2 threads at the same time, but if you check pinterest there are some great ideas about using a cup or even the bobbin winder with a full bobbin to hold a second thread so you could use a twin needle. A twin needle is easy to use, you just thread the machine twice.

But, with this virus thingy everywhere, I will just buy it online. I haven’t decided it. Could you give me recommendation between those two? @@izzahaw if you are quilting, you should look at a machine with a wider throat space (the big space in the middle) and one that has a walking foot attachment so it can cope with thicker fabrics. I would look at the Featherweight or the new Cosplay machine which both come with a walking foot included.
