For Someone who watches this video almost every day to warmup, I find it very helpful. However, because I have done the exercises many times I don't need the explanations (which were very helpful at the beginning) anymore. Here is a list of all the exercises, skipping the explanations and test-trials. Tongue Movement 1:10 "He" Arpeggio 2:14 "He" Rich Tone 3:24 "Eh and Ah" Resonance Matching 4:57 "Ah to O" Resonance Matching 5:49 "Eh Ah Oh" Resonance Matching Octave 7:08 Chord Progression 8:45

Of course, cuz you know what's coming. A strategic student (like myself) will work on the previous exercise with a different vowel, Lip thrill/bubble, breathing exercise, gargle in between to soothe the upward pressure, do agility related things perhaps with riffs or improvising, Lay out my Stage Attire & come back, OR DROP to the floor and hit some pushups💪🏾 So my Sexy Chest pops under the Stage lights ! In other words make good time while he explains for the 1st timers! You're ONLY 1 of his several thousands of students- Sharing is caring 😘

March 12, 2017 - Good morning Jeff, I'm getting ready to go sing with my choir and these warm ups help so much. I'm 61 and taking Lisinipro for high blood pressure. Have you encountered any singers who's voice have been negatively impacted by this drug or any others? Thank you. Peace
@JeffRolka7 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael, I'm really glad that the warm ups are helping! I am not aware of the impact (positive nor negative) of that medication on singers voices. If you are having difficulties I would recommend you speak to your physician or consult an ENT. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance in this matter! Thanks for watching! All the best, Jeff

Dear Jeff, Thanks so much for your response. It's very kind of you. I do have an appointment this week to get off the ACE inhibitors if possible. Today in choir I had quite a few E4's which I sang without strain and wiTH good tone and I could have slid up from there to F or F sharp and maybe G but I could not have come in on any of those notes I don't think. As of 2011 I was singing 1st tenor in the Old South Church choir in Boston under Harry Huff who I adore. He is such a masterful musician. At that time around age 55 I had a good B flat below high C and could make high C sounds in practice. At age 27 I could sing above high C. For the last 5 years, I realize, I have not been singing anything in the upper range beyond the passagio. I've never had trouble singing 'Maybe I'm Amazed' for instance. What note is it in 'Maybe I'm Amazed' where he sings: "maybe I'm amazed that the way you pulled me out of time, hung me on the line..." I accompany myself on guitar and should be able to figure it out on piano. It feels like it can't be more than F sharp or G but it feels strained even though I know I still can sing those notes...(OR IS HE HITTING A4 IN THERE?) But recently I've discovered OMG!!! It's strained! So I've been having panic attacks about it. Have I permanently lost my upper range? I know there are professional singers who maintain it into their 70's. Paul McCartney still has it. So, I know it's not definitely age. I have to remove the medication variable to see if that effect is reversible but I was shocked to learn how many singers were negatively affected by it. Even this morning, even after doing a full warm up with you my speaking voice sounded baritone ish...the women in this choir said that they could hear the difference. Interestingly, I think my lower range is fuller now but boy don't I want a solid g4 and A4!!! That would be enough. So, I'm doing your exercises every day now and I'm so grateful. I've had a lot of voice lessons but yours are as good or better than anything I've ever paid for in person so I realize I need to contribute monthly and I will. I really like your presence and manner and feel very comfortable with you. So, thank you so much. I found you right in the middle of this panic attack and I look forward to being able to share with you when I regain the skill through the passagio that I have lost from non-use...a cautionary tale for older singers I'm sure. Any advice you can offer is deeply appreciated. Peace

Thank you very kindly for your kind words! I am really glad that the lessons are working for you! If you're finding that your transition through the secondo passaggio isn't quite working out, I did this three part series awhile ago and it delineates my entire process for training vocalists to make this transition. It is progressive, so parts two and three get quite a bit more challenging. Since you've had lessons in the past, it may serve as a nice way to prime the pump, so to speak, and get you moving through that area of your voice more smoothly again. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6Opm4d9jM6Ua7c Let me know how it works out for you! I really appreciate your mentioning contributing to the channel. Up until recently one could do so via Fan Funding on KZbin, but it has been cancelled. You can, however, use Paypal via this page on my website: www.jeffrolka.com/connect-2/ The Paypal.me link in red will allow you to make contributions, which are greatly appreciated! Thanks again for your kind words! Keep singing and keep me up to date on your progress. All the best, Jeff

Hi Jeff! Me again. I wanted to know do you have a guide to how to go through your videos? Normally I do this one and your falsetto warmup one. Also, I think I saw a video of you way back saying there’s a difference between a singing warm up vs a singing work out. Can you elaborate on that? And are there workout videos on your channel for tenors? I only saw warm ups
@JeffRolka5 жыл бұрын
I do! Here's the guide: www.jeffrolka.com/product/guidebook-jeff-rolkas-youtube-channel/ I don't recall saying that - usually what I say is something to the effect of: These warm up videos are really technical exercises. If you look at them carefully, you can discern what their focus is in order to target what you need to work on with your voice. In the guidebook, I talk about the focus of the individual videos to expedite that process and cross-reference the videos with searchable keywords. Jeff

jeff.. Howdy.. i was wondering if we can get more of the last exercise (mesa da volce ) or direct me... it is really soothing and the real fun is the sound with the backing chord... can you direct me to more or possibly give us more of these in a workout .? steve

There are a couple videos on the channel that have similar exercises. Here's one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnLZpoSAj9CcaaM&t=2m50s You can also try the singing with chords videos, though those are more melody line vocal parts. I hope that helps! For what it's worth, I'm going to be doing more of these in the near future. Best, Jeff

Is there any way to get more of the last warm up you did? I've always go Be these helpful! Any way you could possibly do a warm up (for tenor) with more of these cord progressions? Maybe an octave higher to lower and back up or something?

Hello! Thanks for your comment. There is more of that warm up on the channel in a few areas. For one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3WYp2yJf9etiZom59s I'll do another video with similar exercises though and give you a couple to choose from. All the best! Jeff

If you mean the scale degrees as they are in the exercise, it would be advantageous to learn the solfège syllables to help with memorization. Alternately, you could use arabic numerals. I hope that helps! Jeff

I wish I could find this comfortable. The low end of the warmup was already halfway up my comfortable range. I'm most comfortable sub C3. I only came here to make my high notes (your comfortable notes) more accessible. I wish I could sing like a tenor while keeping my lower end.
