I destroyed my skin barrier by over exfoliating. I was using three toners that were too drying and that contained aha/bha. I thought I was putting good products on my face but in November of 2019, my skin was SO sensitive that if I even touched my skin, i would feel immense pain. I started curology and I dropped all I was using. I saw small progress and I thought it was okay to reintroduce some products but nope the purging as well as actual acne was coming through. My licensed provider told me to get rid of all things that were comedogenic as that was also stopping the effectiveness of my curology serum. Jumping into March of 2020, I started to use the CeraVe moisturizer and hydrating cleanser. One thing that I learned is that I have dry/normal skin when I thought I had oily/normal skin and so I really have to emphasize to learn and know your skin type! All the things that I was doing before were dehydrating my skin which is why my skin was so so sensitive. I started to educate myself on products and now my skin is starting to look healthy and bouncy and I get only hormonal acne( maybe like 2-3 pimples).It was a LONG process and I’m not completely happy with my skin but I’m much more educated on how to take care of my skin. Also SPF. For the love of all gods, please invest in an spf. All I really have to take care of it my hyperpigmentation so SPF is really key.

lol yes PLEASE INVEST IN AN SPF!!! One that you're gonna love and use EVERYDAY. It don't gotta be pricey either! I feel you on the overuse of too many toners and exfoliants. I love them and think I have fairly resilient skin, but sometimes I go TOO far. CeraVe really is a dream brand, especially when you're navigating the world of actives and need to put your skin barrier and health first. Stratia and Naturium are brands I'm loving for prioritizing skin health and quality formulations above a lot of other things as well.

Thank you so much for this!! I want your brain (and skin)!! Lmao that sounds so creepy but beauty and brains you have it all!!! I’ve noticed my skin is the best when my routine is the most simple. Even when I was being extra lazy and only washed my face once a day and moisturized. I was so shocked about this because I felt like I was being gross (for me personally) by only washing my face once a day. Loved this! Thank you again!

Omg take my brain lol. I only wash my face once a day! At night! I find it helps maintain my skin hydration by not overstripping it. I do some gentle actives and stuff when I need to, but my everyday routine is generally just cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen!

I love the PC Omega Complex Moisturizer. My coworker compromised hers when we introduced her to chemical exfoliation. She got the 5 pack of Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads and we told her to do 1 every other week. Sad to say she did 1 every other day 😞😞😞 and then she was saying that her cleanser was burning her.

Thank you for this video! I had really normal/non breakout skin. Just recently I had a few pimples pop up and I over reacted and changed up my entire skincare routine to treat acne. I was using way too much BHA and sulfur filled products that basically made me break out more. I thought it was a "purging stage" when really my skin barrier was just being damaged due to not moisturizing correctly and using ingridents that were too harsh for my skin. Two months passed and I finally realized its a damaged skin barrier that has contributed to my worsen acne, oily forehead, tight skin and sometimes even itchy. I do the most simple skincare routine but I am still experiencing breakouts, irritation and some itchyness. I ordered the liquid gold and I really hope it helps. But do you have any had advice on what I should be doing?

I just started taking care of my skin this year at 28 (I know) and have been frustrated for months trying to figure out why my skin barrier is badly damaged even after using so many moisturizing products. I just figured out it’s because I’ve been washing my face with a wash cloth twice a day! my skin was so used to me rinsing with water and calling it a day (I know) for my whole life that I’ve wrecked it by cleansing too much. I’m trying hard to only cleanse gently at night and not cleanse in the morning. I can’t help but picture a layer of dead skin and bacteria getting sandwiched under my moisturizer and sunscreen but as much as it drives me crazy I’m trying not to give in to my cleansing addiction!
4 жыл бұрын
You'd be surprised that you don't need to exfoliate as often! And also I don't cleanse in the morning either! I use retinoids and acid exfoliants sporadically throughout the week, so my skin stays resurfaced lol And it's not as icky as that lol! We have the acid mantle that take care of bacteria and stuff on the skin as well.

How do we find out the PH of our skin care products? Is Niacinamide in a toner just as effective as in serum?
4 жыл бұрын
A lot of skincare brands (mainly Korean) actually have this info readily available or advertised even. If not, little pH strips are inexpensive and are useful to use. Just dip them in a sample of the product and compare to their pH color chart. That being said, MOST brands have products formulated to be pH balanced or the right pH to make sure the active ingredient is at its most potent pH, and most don't compromise the barrier in that regard. It's doing too many treatments that exfoliate or start disrupting the lipid barrier that do damage. Semi acidic products are good for your skin though.

Tret is such a staple in my skincare routine though! It's an amazing ingredient, but unless you really ease into it, it can for sure have some major effects on the skin. Retinization is a process, but the effects can be so worth it. Have you played with lower strengths retinols instead?
@aayushipatwari202

Glow By Ramón I should have done that. And honestly I am going to stick to retinaldehyde now. Dr Vanita rattan says that it’s basically the same except it won’t make one go through this tedious process. I’ll get the naturium retinal serum or TO one...contemplating but I will definitely start after 2-3 months. Skin’s kinda super pissed rn 🙈 loving your content :D

My skin has a few other place on face that are having the same problem. Would it be my sunscreens and what would you recommend. I’m 43 and I always had relatively nice skin oily Ish/combo ish. When I was in my 20s-late 30s I really think the majority of it was that I usually wore sunscreen on a daily basis. Nothing heavy but always 30 at least. Was off and on in my 20s but solidly used a moisturizer with sunscreen in my 30s. And no I never reapplied. A cleanser maybe a scrub 😡 and very little moisturizer in key spots. I used strivecin moisturizer this way for years and that was expensive but lasted me a long time the way I used it. Of course I think they reformulated at least once since. Now in my late 30s early 40s. I would so more. Usually stuck with one line maybe a drug store cleanser from time to time. For 1-1.5 years it was Khiels. That’s when I started using serums and a separate sunscreen on top of moisturizer. And then for about 2 years it was drunk elephant. Then I couldn’t get ahold of the trunk and I was fed up with those prices and availability so I started skipping around trying different things....and now my skin is TOE UP!!!!!😩🤣😂 I’ve tried different things to fix it but for some reason quarantina has fucked up my skin game and given me more stubborn breakouts and redness. I have used more sunscreen than ever these last few months applying 3 times a day and I’m wondering. Is this frustrating my skin or contributing to it? Is it that I’ve started using retinol and that particular formula is not working for me? Really my skin is still way better than most but it’s pissing me off. Yes I’ve tried slowing it down. I’ve tried to go back to drunk elephant. So far I can’t figure it out but it’s a bit better. The internet is so extra and KZbin has contributed to me trying this and that and I think what went down in the makeup world is trickling into the skin care world. People think they need every product and they don’t. Especially if you’re young or already have great or even average skin you can very much be a basic bitch and have it do wonders for you. I think I’m gonna jump onto the Curology bandwagon next month and just keep it mellow aside from that. I don’t have many lines on my face but I’m lucky and I also took good care of my skin. So I think as long as you’re doing a decent job of cleansing and moisturizing and sunscreen fairly regularly you’re ahead of the game. Don’t overdo it. Bye hoes!💁🏻‍♂️
4 жыл бұрын
lol damn that's a JOURNEY! But you're 100% correct when you say DON'T OVER DO IT!!! Make sure you're properly cleansed, sealing in moisture, and protecting your skin, and you're good! You seem to have taken great care of your skin over the years! Miss Coronatine got my skin effed up too, but that's because of the masks! I'm getting breakouts in weird spots I don't normally break out in because of my mask. Gentle BHA treatments have been helping out with that though. Tbh, I think Drunk Elephant is overrated, like you said those prices are UNNECESSARY. I firmly believe a sensible cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen will do a WORLD of good, then you can spice up your life if you feel necessary, and if you do so responsibly. But you always gotta listen to your skin!!!

The more occlusive ingredients. The ceramides, fatty acids and fatty alcohols, dimethicones. Mineral oils, petrolatum, and cholesterol are other options too. Depending on what your skin type is, some ingredients are better than others to lock in moisture without adding in risk of clogging pores
