I’m “THE OILIEST” so this is great info, I just bought the MAC Matte and it really works! I’m testing it with their Pore Refiner. I love your tip at the end about how oily skin “eats makeup” and how to address that issue with more pigmented makeup. When the oils are under control in non-pro makeup I find I’m a whole different shade!! Much better to have the knowledge to purchase the correct products in the beginning. I have one question regarding makeup prep and it’s regarding sunscreen. Are there any products you recommend for oily skin and in which step of makeup prep do you apply apply them? Bare skin, after moisturizer? I’ve had pretty good luck with La Roche-Posay Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen w/ Cell-Ox Shield XL. It doesn’t seem to break me out or add a white cast to my medium-dark skin. Thank you again for sharing your encyclopedic knowledge with us.

Anything that is a fluid, light textured sunscreen is great and you can use it over moisturizer or on it's own. Just remember it does need to be reapplied throughout the day to be effective if you are going to be outdoors for an extended period.

Thank you! This is very useful. I do have couple of questions, though: -What about SPF? -Do you recommend blotting paper? -Is the alcohol in setting sprays an issue for sensitive skin?
@AngieDiB6 жыл бұрын
-I don’t use SPF unless I am shooting outside and/or my talent requests it. - Blotting paper has never worked for me, I would rather use a sponge - It might be but I’ve found no issue with it, if you have someone that is sensitive to setting sprays just skip it!

Very informative video! This isn’t related to this video but What are your thoughts on airbrush makeup such as temptu? Or do you prefer traditional makeup application? I am a makeup artist that has used traditional makeup application ie brushes and sponges for 12 years, I’m thinking about airbrush but not completely sold on it, I feel as though I can give an “airbrushed” look faster and more effectively with using brushes and sponges. I do bridal makeup mostly. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Thanks for these great tips Angie! Unrelated topic: I got the RCMA Vk11 and I'm struggling to match the colors, I'm mixing and mixing and doesn't seem I have good eye for matching the right shade. So I'm just using the closest light and dark shade to highlight and contour, how could I know if at least I'm doing this right? Cheers😊
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
This is the type of question that requires more than just a typed answer. I’ll be doing a video with tips and tricks on how to match foundation soon. You need to make sure you understand the undertones of the foundations you are working with which will help guide you in the right direction when figuring out your client’s skin tone. You also need more in your kit than the VK11 palette - there is not enough of a colour range in that one palette.

I'm still using most of these products in my kit (and it's been 5 or 6 years since this video!) so I'm not sure what would be a good recco for you - maybe Paula's Choice? Kiehl's has some newer fragrance free options as well.

Angie, since I have money to buy only one moisturizer/product to prep and prime an oily face for RCMA and Face Atelier foundation, do you recommend the Embryolisse Hydra Mat, the Mac Matte or just a De-Slick Spray? It's for some tests (usually 1h to 3h job).
@AngieDiB6 жыл бұрын
One is honestly not enough for your kit in my opinion. They all work for different types of oily skin. If you need to start with one I would say MAC Matte but it’s just not enough to deal with all types of oily skin.
@elissabarretto6 жыл бұрын
I already have the regular Embryolisse, Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner Cream (but I use it as a treatment) and a gel-cream similar to the Avene Tolerance, but thought it was better not to use any of these on really oily skin, just something like Thermal Water. But I will try to purchase the Mac Matte (abroad) and the De-Slick here in Brazil and maybe look for another affordable moisturizer target to oily skin, like the Effaclar Matte.
@elissabarretto6 жыл бұрын
And I forgot to mention, but I always use the Sensibio Micelar Water to clean the skin before prepping it.

I love your channel!! Do you mind doing a quick video on the difference between setting & finishing powders? Is there a big difference b/w loose & pressed powder? TY
@AngieDiB6 жыл бұрын
The terms ‘setting’ and ‘finishing’ are interchangeable between brands and can mean the same thing. In the past most loose powders were lighter in texture and coverage but currently there are so many brands that produce very finely milled pressed powders so the answer to your question would really depend on the brand.
@lenareed45796 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!!. I am currently trying to build my starter makeup kit & was trying to distinguished 1-2 products to purchase, out of your "SETTING/PRESSED POWDER" list, you gave in the video description.
@AngieDiB6 жыл бұрын
The pressed powders I have in my kit are Blot Powder (From Mac) which is for oil control, the MAC Studio Fix which is a powder foundation, and MAC Mineralize which is a really light coverage powder. The rest are just loose powders I use to set foundation.

quick question, could you PLEASE make a video or even just a post about the best satin eye shadow's? like I can't find one video on KZbin showcasing their favorite satin eye shadows or any specific lines that are satin, I don't care about prices but I can't find a way to tell which shadows are satin (without swatching in person which I don't have that option) from lines like abh, mug, colourpop, etc. or even a line of all satin shadows at sephora or ulta. thanks in advance!
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
You’d have to clarify what you mean by ‘satin’. Are you referring to the finish? I also assume you are referring to shadows that are not matte?
@meldiacalcod16027 жыл бұрын
Angie Di Battista my bad I wasn't exactly clear, I meant satin finish eye shadows like ones that aren't matte or metallic but somewhere in between similar to how satin foundation's aren't exactly matte or dewy but more "natural finish" I'm not sure if you own makeup geek shadows but I own one from them called bleached blonde and it's the perfect finish but was discontinued. I know ABH makes some too but I can't tell which one's they are because I don't have the option to swatch in store. thank you for taking the time out to answer!
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
Oh I see what you mean. I find that there are tons of brands who make shadows that say they are matte but when applied still look creamy on the lid and not too dry. If that’s the finish you are looking for in terms of what I have used Make Up For Ever and Marc Jacobs Beauty have shadows that are more satin finish. Natasha Denona’s shadows are this texture as well. I haven’t used any Makeup Geek so I don’t have an opinion on it.

Thanks @Angie di Battista Great and I formative and short. I have a hair and beauty salon and am a freelance MUA using lancome and Estee lauder. Mau my because our shops are just next door and they provide testers for me to use on my clients and the clients to next door to purchase. I've struggled with okay skin and invested in several Matte primers. I'm about to start training with these companies so I am more knowledgeable and an expert on the products and what they do..Not just creating beautiful work. I need and want my work to last all day and believe skin prep is the key. Also with foundation. Can you recommend any books or online courses that I could take on skin Prep and working with different all types. As I have the rae Morris and kevyn aucoin books but they don't cover much on this subject. Your expert direction helps. Regards from NZ. Corry
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
Corry this is such a great question! Most books don’t cover off this topic and I haven’t found any that really explain skin prep only because every artist has their own method. The truth is for me I learned about skin first (the dermatalogical side of things) and that knowledge helped me figure out the right combination of products to use on my clients. The added difficulty is that every client is going to have something unique happening with their skin. I really like this website www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice there is lots of sound information about skin care and skin concerns. Of course this website has it’s own sales pitch for her products but ignore that and take a look at some of the articles.

Hi Angie, I'm just wondering whats the deal with applying makeup on someone who has a cold sore. I see a lot of information about using disposable tools but even face brushes? Like say i apply foundation around the mouth using a brush, it's likely to go over and touch the cold sore? If i sanitise and deep clean my brushes afterwards are they still okay to use on someone else? Thank you so much!
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
That's a no for me. Use sponges and throw them out, don't risk it with brushes. Obviously don't double dip the sponge in anything after it has touched the client's face.
@oheyitsdee7 жыл бұрын
Angie Di Battista do you mean just around the area of the cold sore? I'm still okay to use eyeshadow brushes for eye makeup? What about lining the lips etc?

Hi I've heard the embryolisse hydra matte is great for oily skin, but it's also twice the price of the Bioderma matte moisturizer, so is it really twice as good?
@AngieDiB6 жыл бұрын
Price and quality generally have nothing to do with each other in the world of cosmetics. They are very similar so I would purchase whatever you have access to and what you can afford. There are lots of great mattifying products on the market that work well at every price range.
@melissarodriguez14036 жыл бұрын

What about foundations that catered to all skin types like the Estée Lauder double wear and Clinique beyond perfecting foundation do you think products that are made for all skin types will actually work on all skin types ? Have you experienced working with liquid foundations that are for all skin type ? If so what are you thoughts ?
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
I use Face Atelier foundation which is geared to all skin types, so yes I belive something like this can work on all skin types. I haven’t used Clinique or Estee so I can’t comment on those specific foundations. As long as the foundation itself is not greasy in texture, for the most part if the skin is prepped properly and you are taking the right steps to control shine both under and on top of makeup you should be fine.
