Hi.. I was there and can tell you exactly how Wildflower came to be. Dave was madly in love with his beautiful wife, and she was a nurse, when she would come home from a day or sickness and sadness, she would cry and tell him how hard it was and how helpless she felt at times. He wrote this poem for her, to lift her spirits and to let her know how much he appreciated her tireless dedication.. Dave brought the lyrics over to us at a band rehearsal.. and left them on the piano, when we took a break, I picked them up, read them and started bawling, I thought he had written them for, me! Which is why it's a killer song, everyone can relate, everyone takes it personally.. but the person who was really inspired was Doug Edwards, who wrote that incredible melody.. However, the Triple D Trio.. Donny, Doug, and Dave is why that song is timeless, not to mention the brilliant arrangement by David Foster.. Skylark, a one hit wonder, but what a band and what a song!

As touching a song you will ever hear, anyone who feels it is reminded of someone close to them. My dedication is to my sister, who loved and lived this song in the 70's, I still get goose bumps. BJ Cook, it is certainly wonderful to see you still alive and kicking here with your comments. I read you were pregnant at this moment here, so everyone please stop "picking" on her dress (ha!) Speaking of clothes how about Carl Graves' outfit! BJ your backing vocals were splendid AND you are correct, one hit but still a beauty & timeless, thanks for the memories!

O.K. flowers for the song versus plaid. Those sleeves are what killed it for me. Looks like B.J. should be the dealer in Kenny Rogers the Gambler. Kind of 1880's saloon dealer look. This love song is one of those few timeless classics that speaks to our hearts on a much deeper level. We don't hear too often about a relationship in song that shows empathy to a soul who is really hurting and wanting to soothe their suffering. G&R's 'Sweet Child O' Mine' or Hootie's 'Let Her Cry' render these tender feelings about a lover whose life has seen suffering, addiction etc and you're incapable of helping. We should all learn to feel such self sacrificing love for someone. Thank you Skylark.

I've been listening to this song over and over again for the past 3 days. At first I thought it was New Birth song and I thought they were great they made me cry I felt like jumping off the roof it was crazy. And then buy some fluke I came across Skylark and oh my God it's amazing Skylark was amazing not just Donnie's voice but the other musicians and the backup singers Plus the words man those words everything went together perfectly this was a once in a lifetime thing when everything just came together and just naturally his voice was a gem but he needed a good song Good musicians the melody everything awesome

I love both Skylark and New birth. I saw New Birth perform in 1985. They sang with passion. They gave me chills. I won't forget them.

So, so sad that we have lost Mr. Gerrard. He was an incredible singer. He went on to sing and play with the greatest in modern rock, pop, and R&B. That all of these legends (Elton John, Bob Dylan, Mavis Staples and many more) would perform with Mr. Gerrard is a tribute to his talent. It makes him a legend also. RIP Mr. Gerrard.

It's rare to have a song with lyrics this packed with empathy, desire, and compassion, not to mention perfectly well composed and delivered vocally by Donny Gerrard. Can the the new generation of musicians reach even half the sensitivity of this rare jewel?

All I can say is thank you to this group for this song. When I first heard it, I thought of my mom. I thought someone else has a mom like mine. My mom was free-spirited, loved life, enthusiastic in trying new things, supported and loved her children unconditionally. She was one who would stand with you when all others failed you. She worked, raised a family with my dad, but found time for marches, politics, school, looking out for neglected neighborhood kids, just helping where she could. The attendance at my folk's funeral was a testament to how much they were loved by many. I had no clue until that day when many came over and said what they had done for them. We were poor and getting by paycheck to paycheck. This taught me that kindness doesn't cost a thing. It also taught me that I don't have to be rich, famous, or even well known to be helpful to someone. I had a good dad but he mostly did what my mom suggested. I thank my mom, in particular, for that legacy. All the covers of this song I feel are great. I'm a 50's child so I've about heard them all. Again, thank you Doug and David.

One of my all-timers, a true classic 70s ballad that sounds as fresh today as it did then -- what a beautiful song, beautifully done. I so enjoy the melody & lyrics. Great job Ms. Cook, too!

As a young girl of about 10 or 11 when this song first came out, I just felt such love from it and wanted to meet a man who felt this way about me someday. I still feel that same passion today when I hear it, It just pulls at my heart. Such a beautiful song!
