I can see Oumbi smiling at Lope's antics. Love the way the two look at each other through the opening between the boards. Lope likes to play rough and tumble. I have a feeling Oumbi knows that with his strength and weight he could easily hurt Lope during play. I remember that day Oumbi broke up a fight between the ladies, and how easily he tossed Osala about 3-4 feet through the air with one hand. Amazing!

To those troubled about these wonderful creatures being in captivity: it troubles me too, but remember that back in "the wild" there are poachers that kill them for "bush meat" and trophies. Dian Fossey's book Gorillas in the Mist gives a picture of the danger. The choices for those wanting to preseve the species are very complicated. We can't control the politics and culture and poverty of the countries that control the "wild" places where they should be. Preserves have been established, so some humans are working to create wild places safe from humans, but there is no guarantee for their ultmate survival there if, for instance, war breaks out in the region. Is it right to keep some gorillas in captivity as a safeguard against their possible extinction in the wild? It is indeed a tragic situation with no easy answers. And this video is priceless! No DNA test needed to show how much like us the gorillas are.

Lots of comments on how sad Oumbi is. Did you know that gorillas don't have the same facial muscles as us humans? They can't smile! When a gorilla relaxes, their muscles face droop which makes them look grumpy. This happens in the wild too. This is just one video. Maybe when you see the whole family dynamics, you'll know he's relaxing in one of his favourite spots, but his son ( who is very mischievous anyway) just wants to play. You can't always judge from one video. Of course, I would love to see them in the wild rather than in the zoo, but the world we live in just doesn't make that possible. Let them free you say. Where to? They were born in a Zoo not in the wild. Only Biddy the oldest gorilla family member was born in the wild, but those were different times. European zoos don't get animals from the wild anymore. They feel safe at Twycross. They got the whole family with them. Dad, mum, grandma, aunt and two boys.

Thank you for recognizing this fact. I read comments from clueless onlookers and it's disheartening. Finally someone has a keen sense for what the actual dad is feeling. Everything on this planet is our responsibility. However with all the corruption, complicated circumstances, lack of time, and downright ignorant, indifference, there can be no saving for all these beautiful animals. Everyone on the planet couldn’t all realistically agree to save our big lovable pets, so we’ll have to get used to telling our future generations that we killed off and took too much room for them to live with us. We’ just have to get used to vermin, pampered pets, and factory livestock as the only living animals in the future. That or irradiated, pollution living things or pictures of the big ones. November 24, 2020. I think it was this year during the beginning of COVID-19 here in the USA that I found your channel, SV. The first videos I saw were of little Lope trying so hard to get to see and touch his newborn brother Shuffai, but Ozala wouldn't let him. Then there were the outdoor videos of Lope trying to play with Shuffai when his little brother would venture away from his mother's side. Then there was the success-at-last moment when they were allowed to play together. And always, Lope tapping his Dad to encourage play, but not succeeding. "Tapping" is the gorilla way to invite play. It's not being a "nuisance", Many serene moments of Lope cuddling with or playing with grandma Biddy. Watching the kids grow up. I have watched this particular video so many times, I can't even guess how many. I'm so thankful for you and your uploads, SV. God bless you and keep you safe.

@Anna K you are correct. There is more that could be done. But how much space is enough. Space cost alot of money. People also go to zoos to see animals they would never have a chance to see in the wild. If you make it so these animals can completely hide like they would in the wild nobody will be paying to get in. Then there will be no funding for these animals and the breeding programs that keep them from going extinct. In a perfect world zoos wouldn't be neccessary. Maybe if the people in the country they come from cared enough and had more strict poaching laws this wouldn't be a problem. There are two species of rhino that are completely extinct in the wild but thanks to the zoos they are breeding in captivity.

So you have to sit somewhere different all the time and don't have a favourite spot? 🤨Anyway, I've got over 100 videos of the family, and these are the only two videos where they are both in that spot. Lope is playing with his dad, who just wanted a little rest outside. A typical father and son relationship. Dad wants some peace in the spot he chose, but Lope being Lope has fun annoying his Dad.

It was worth the excruciating wait!!! What a great video. Thank you for another long video. What can I say? Lope is a delightful stinker and Oumbi has sooo much patience. I loved when they were staring at each other. Thank you again.😁😊

Oumbi giving Lope the side-eye action is hilarious. I wonder if Oumbi is saying in his head WHAT WAS I THINKING ???

Lope is the cutest little Gorilla boy! Many comments on Oumbi's patience and control with Lope, but, I don't know how Oumbi can resist the urge to grab Lope and tickle and hug him. Lope is so funny and tries everything to get reaction and play from dad but Oumbi just chills out and seems amused by Lope, but won't take the bait to wrestle or chase him. Lope is so adorable peeking through gaps in the wall and popping his head around the other side to look at daddy. Lope's little mind must be filled with ideas of "how to get a reaction" from dad and he tries them all but none work. How Oumbi can resist Lope's charms and cuteness baffles me because he is so lovable and playful. Another great video SloggerVlogger! All the time and hard work you put into these videos are so appreciated and valued by many around the world. Thank you so so much for all the joy and laughs you bring to us! You are the BEST!!! :-)

Amy Lynn, This is all they know since born in captivity. And yes, Gorillas in the wild face so many dangers and disease. I think dad is just a cool & mellow guy. Like humans, each Gorilla is different personality wise and Oumbi always seemed very calm and less active then others. He is a great daddy and Little Lope is a little clown boy. He just loves to play and get attention from his family. I guess it can get tiring for parents at times, but Oumbi handles his boy well. :-)

SloggerVlogger, Thank you dear friend. Just chilling a bit here. All is okay. Love the videos and all the work you put into them! Lope just cracks me up. You can see how he tries to get big daddy to play with him. Oumbi just sits back and lets his little boy keep trying. So funny watching them since Lope is such a spastic personality and dad is just so mellow. It is as if Oumbi amuses himself by making Lope go crazy trying to get a reaction from him. Maybe if we give lope a few packs of firecrackers to set off under dads ass, that may get the desired attention he wants to get dad up and playing if dad doesn't strangle him 1st. LOL! Just imagine Lope peeking around that wood, giggling as he lights the firecrackers then throws them near dad! Both reactions would be hysterical. Just hope Lope can out run dad until the burned hair on his ass grows back! :-) xo

Glad to hear your good! 😊There has been quite a few comments about Oumbi on this videos and him being depressed, but I think it's from people that don't really know the family that well. As you said, they've all got their personality. Oumbi might not be very active ( well apart from his gym sessions and pull ups lol) , but he is a great dad and like the rest of the family they work well together with everyone playing their part. Thank you Mary for your comments! xo

SlogglerVlogger, thank you so much for the comments. Yeah, Oumbie seems to just be a mellow guy unless (as you said ) his gym sessions or when Lope pushes him too far and has to be reminded who the boss is or that playtime is over with daddy. He is a great daddy and when he does play with his boys, it is a wonderful site. And we are seeing a clip of their lives, I'm sure daddy gives his Little Lope a lot of playtime and attention, but Lope seems to be very active and no doubt wears daddy out. Just funny how dad looks at Lope sometimes, like "You are killing me kid, but I love you"LOL! I think they are funny to watch because dad will give him a few teases like banging the wood to get Lope excited then when Lope runs over to dad he acts as if he didn't do anything. Great Duo! :-)
