Chevy Express Tune Up

A quick how to on a 2005 Chevy Express van. This is a 2500 with a 6.0, but is very similar with most vans. I don't actually show removing the spark plugs, but that is something you should be familiar with if you are doing this job.
This is a job that can be intimidating at first glance.

For what it's worth, when I was doing a water pump replacement I realized you can easily access the two front plugs. Way easier than going in through the wheel well with multiple universal joint extensions. I actually found the vehicle pretty easy to work on once you get rid of all the crap in the front. I have to do a power steering pump later this summer and I will probably change out those two front spark plugs and coils as I will go in from the front again. I can say one big pain in the **** with this truck is getting the coolant system burped or all the air out of it. You have to fill from the top radiator hose, and you still typically will get air trapped. Overall, it's a good solid engine though. I have the 2006, 3500. Runs like a top with 80K on it.

I've done a couple of these I did a 2004 and a 2008 GMC Savana, I found the two at the front of the engine are easiest to get through the wheel well with a long extension they come off very easily.

My 04 Savana has 135k with rebuilt Tranny at 125k runs solid but wondering what tune up stuff to do. Not sure if past owners changed plugs I bought it at 110k should I replace plugs and wires ?

235000 miles and the interior still looks great. I've done this on 2005 1500 4.6. It is much easier taking out the passenger's seat and removing the passenger's front tire. Dog house comes all the way out and that creates a lot of room to in the cab in case you have to lay on the floor.

Hi Danny, Great job here on your video.I found this video looking for doghouse removal procedure. I know this video is almost 3 years old but I saw at least 2 broken/missing exhaust manifold bolts closest to the rear/back of that engine. Should of been load as hell with the manifold flange bent out away from the head on the Pass. side rearmost (#8 cylinder @ 3:44 and #7 cylinder @ 4:49) driver side rearmost. I used my Windows magnifier at 500X power to view them. I guess the owner had no complaint about this so wasn't part of the job, right?

nice video thanks for sharing I had a 02 model 1500 w/ 5.7 I removed the front wheels and swapped spark plugs though wheel well.I now have a 04 3500 are you saying I no longer have to remove front wheels for spark plugs. I actually thought it was easy to go though wheel well.I also plan to purchase a real SP tool sockect w/ woobler attached what lenght extension would you suggest. thanks

Hi! I have an 03 express 1500 passenger van (V8) and I'm 99% sure I need to replace the distributor cap. Engine and housing looks exactly like the one in this video but I'm having trouble locating the distributor. I'm not used to working on vans so this is a bit different. Any help you can give for finding the distributor???

These vans have a LS engine in them. They don't have a distributor. They have 1 coil per spark plug.

Sounds like a good idea but unfortunately you got to take the seat out to get the dog outside of the vehicle. But you could probably clean it up the best you could inside of it but usually they're pretty damn Dusty lol.

Why is there a air duck on the dog house

Air comes out just above cup holders on mine.

The duct on top of the doghouse directs air to another duct located within the doghouse. The duct within the doghouse directs the air to the floor. If too much air is coming out above the cup holders that means the two ducts probably aren’t connected properly, and air isn’t reaching the floor as it should
