Downside is the car "mine has the $$shaker" has one hell of a parasite battery drain. I replace a battery at least every 2 years. Only issue is the dreaded door panel material coming unglued and peeling off. Mine fell off even garaged after 12 years.
@smoke12154 жыл бұрын
From a guy who has owned a 3V mustang since I purchased it new in 2005 let me explain. There was zero competition for the mustang. I was a die hard Chevy guy and when I wanted to buy a new car all Chevrolet had in 2005 was an LS1 (not LS2) an LS1 GTO, which weighted more, was a bit slower, and cost $10,000 more money. (and was less visually appealing IMO) I can remember talking with other car guys about how it looked like a $40,000 GrandAm. The main competition for the 3 valve mustang was the older but still very awesome WS6 TransAm, which it ran pretty much door to door with if both were left stock, or maybe intake/tune type cars. The 3v mustang was the right car for it's day. It was on par with the TransAm, looked better than the GTO and destroyed the heavy Dodge Chargers which made around 350hp (crank) and weight like 4k+ lbs. It is easy for people to be like "Oh you should have just bought a coyote 6 years before it existed". Ford kept that quiet, I remember my best friend buying a 2010 4.6 mustang having no clue what was around the corner. The coyote only became a thing because Ford finally had competition from the newly re-released Camaro and faster Chargers / Challengers becoming a thing. You had to be there to really understand how great these cars were. They didn't out sell literally everything in that price range for no reason. Even after buying other cars, I still love my 3 valve and have no plans to ever get rid of it.
@gavinmann76703 жыл бұрын
Well put man! I was born in '98, so I remember the S197s coming out for the first time and absolutely loving how they looked. When I turned 16, those GT's were still a bit out of my price range so I settled on a base model SN95 instead. When I was 22, I saw a silver S197 come across the marketplace that had real low miles, but a little worse for the wear, and for dirt cheap like 3700 bucks. I knew that this was my chance, and even though I originally bought it to flip, I'm realizing as I've been fixing it up that I'd rather keep it! I hope you enjoy yours for many years to come!!

@achannel3052 жыл бұрын
@@BenBoi720 That really depends on what you want out of the car. I recently picked up a 2010 Mustang GT Premium that was well looked after and low miles for a little bit more than your price range and I love the car. It is perfect for what I wanted which was a fun reliable daily driver car that is faster than what I was driving (a 4cyl car like yours). The 2010s have the newer body style with the older engines (4.6 3v). If you want the same things as me a 05-09 GT would do you great, but I recommend ones newer than 06 as a few improvements were made then. Maybe you would like better fuel economy and don’t mind a v6, a 2011-2014 3.7 v6 car could be a good option as well. Of course it won’t have that v8 sound but it makes similar power to the 3v though not as much torque and gets better gas milage. I personally went with a 3v GT as I wanted that v8 sound and soul. Both cars have good potential and respond well to boost and are reliable so either would be a good option.

These are the only issues just in case some are wondering what just time does. It kills batteries and had a horrible parasite drain. 2-3 days and it is DEAD. Do that 3x and the battery is dead so a trickle charger is a must. It took 10 yrs but even garaged, the interior door panel material peeled off. Reglued. Thats it!! Most are blown away by the mileage but even so. DRIVE EM IF YOU GOT EM. Yes, you may sell or trade it faster but the amount you will get for a mint, low mileage car vs one with normal wear/tear and milage ain't that dam much so enjoy the car.

Bill McGregor i have the same car in that Vista Blue and I bought it brand new. It has 95,000 miles but is in pristine shape as it is winter stored, garage kept year round in a garage without windows, and the last several years It’s only used on nice Saturdays and never driven in the rain. It does not have a ding or dent or scratch on it and the interior is like new. The paint looks perfect. Slightly modded with a JLT CAI, tune, steeda underdrive pulleys, a Bullitt axleback, 2010 GT500 wheels with 275 rear and 255 front, upgraded brakes as well as some other appearance mods. I love it and I don’t care how much more power the newer ones have. This thing looks great, turns heads, gets loads of “nice car” comments from people and is a blast to drive. It still feels like a new car every time I drive it. Ford had it right with this body style. They should never have changed it the way they did. Dodge has kept the challenger looking quite similar to the 2008 challenger and that’s what ford should have done. They could have kept the same shape but made subtle appearance changes much like what dodge did. When they squished the rear in 2010 the car lost its retro cool look. If they had not changed the exterior look a lot but had instead changed the interior to high quality, and the Powertrain to what it is now but with a 3V sound they would have one sweet car right now, one a lot nicer than the new ones today. Hopefully someday they make a retro 05-09 so that look comes back again!

I just bought a used Magnuson MP112 Supercharger complete with lower intake, gaskets, fuel rail with 39lb/hr Ford Racing injectors and stock throttle body for.......$650!!! I didn't get the air/water heat exchanger and pump or misc do-dads.....but, including those I'll have about $1,500 in this upgrade for a gain of 140 RWHP...... ;)

Should have put long tube headers on it. That would be much better than the axle back exhaust. Cold Air Intake, Long tube headers with no cats or high flow cat mid pipe, and a tune. Those are the first 3 mods anyone should get.

I like a hurst shifter and leaving the springs alone with stock stance better shocks though and brakes.Cold air intake does not work well in cold climates it needs to be warm .I would suggest better injectors and exhast.

Looking at a one owner 2010 in Grabber blue. It has 52,000 miles but always garage kept. Lots of upgrades Roush shifter, Brembo brakes, cold air intake, and even has a roush tool kit mounted in the trunk that the owner supposedly paid $1700 for. 😳

Was that normal power back then for the 3V setups? I bought my ex-wife back in 2006, a new 2006 3v 5 speed and it put down 284/304 stock on my bud's Dynojet and it ran in so so weather with a DA of 3000' a 13.6@103 mph. I thought that was pretty good back then. I figured on a good Fall day it would have been 13.2@107.

Can someone explain the logic behind buying an intake that doesn't require a tune and is therefore necked down if they were gonna tune it anyway? Just buy the intake that doesn't have any size restrictions (thus requiring a tune) for maximum power.

When brand new, a 2006 Mustang would be pushing around 210 hp to the crank. When brand new, a 2006 GT like this would be getting around 300 hp to the crank. -Zach

threevalve_eric they’re for the most part slow, owning one i can say this. Yours may not be slow, but not everyone has money for cams and shit like yourself, love and respect what you’ve done with yours, but no need to be smug about it over the internet.
@julioramirez17jr5 жыл бұрын
KonaBlue 2k10 lmao first of all I was talking stock. Even full bolt on its still now really fast. There’s nothing wrong with being slow but 14 sec stock is. It very fast... also spending a couple thousands for it to go mid to high 12 is not very impressive... I still love the 3 valve.
@elevate_y0urmind5 жыл бұрын
@@joejerkoff9095 They are only slow if the owner allows it to be slow. You don't need cams for these to be fast. Know a couple bolt on guys running low 12 second times in the quarter mile. Most 3v owners spend stupid money on wheels and tires which in reality cost more than cams do. Don't give me that "not everyone has money" speech. lol I see most of these guys rolling around on baller style wheels and tires that cost twice as much as my cams did.

Am I the only one who likes long throw shifters? I like the act of shifting. I don't want that act to be shortened. Plus it looks cooler. The 80's had the right length shifters.

Dennis S Like, the stock shifter in my 17’ GT is ugly and i feel like the throw is too short. If they made a kit to give it that hurst shifter look while also making the throw longer, not shorter, like, 80’s length throw, I’d buy that shit in a heart beat
