A glimpse of our marriage life - Singaporean wife and Japanese husband. I have been married for around 5 years and I wanted to share some of the difficulties. What are the marriage culture shocks? What is our international marriage like?

Hey Ghib, now that the blissful honeymoon period is finally over, remember this: Before you're married, you should have opened your eyes as big as possible. Now that you're already married, you'll need to close your eyes as small as possible. More often than not, the opposite happens in many marriages. That's where marital tensions set in. If not addressed lovingly, sayonara buddy.

MIL generally get along with son-in-law unless he is a bum and leech. But absolutely a son must not bring his mother to live under same roof with wife. Women do not get along with other women, it is a fact. Married men MUST move out and live with their wife independently.

Disclaimer: I’m not speaking for all men but from my 35-year marriage experience.😂 Understanding the Psychology of Reasoning Between Men and Women. 1. Men tend to be less meticulous about small details, such as squeezing toothpaste in the center, leaving their dirty clothing outside the bathroom, or tossing a wet shower towel on the bed. These habits can upset our wives. 2. Men often rush to complete household chores, viewing them as tasks, while happily spending hours on their hobbies. It’s important to listen to our wives because peace will follow when we indulge in our hobbies/toys later. 3. Personally, I try to stay out of the kitchen unless I want to cook something or my help is needed. My wife and I adhere to old-school values (similar to your in-laws), and my absence in the kitchen minimizes conflicts because I see it as my wife’s territory. (However, if you have a domestic helper, it can change the dynamics.) 4. At home, the wife is always right, as she is the queen of the household. This perspective helps maintain harmony and prioritize the relationship over egos.

I keep my kitchen sink dry after every wash. I hang 2 towels at the sink, one for drying the dishes, the other to wipe dry the sink. Kitchen sink is the place where mold can grow rapidly. Use artificial vinegar to wipe the wall and edge around the sink, the acidity will keep the mold away without using harsh chemicals. Never use bleach on sink, they corrode the metal coating especially the tap.

Haha.. I just Got my Philips 9000 series too last week. Its awesome and the weight is well distributed... so easy to manouvere around in small turns and you dont feel too heavy too heavy handling it. The design and functionality of this model is the ideal that we been comparing with other models for the past 2 months. Go to any mall and check the physical item to see and feel. My wife is happier for me using this than the normal mop. More happy and helps with my lower back problem too... less stress. Kitchen is always clean fast after usage.

Marriage life takes a lot of give & take. Both have strength & weaknesses, good habits / bad habits, both are from different family backgrounds & bringing up, etc. As no human is perfect, it’s best to accept each other’s imperfection and try to do your part to understand each other & try improve where habits are bad or where certain ways of doing things can be better. It’s a life long learning process, and there needs to be live & let live. May God bless & strengthen your married life.

Very interesting video! I think there are much similarities between yours and my family. Same complains. I used to argue, but after more than 15 years, I have learned to not argue back but to just do what I can. The second you argue, you lose. Let the wife win :) Second, the wet sink. I have to totally agree that you must keep it dry. I too have the same forgetfulness at times, not drying the area around the sink. Very important to keep it dry because if you don't, black mold will start to grow there. Another way is to improve ventilation by positioning a small fan to blow at the sink area for a while to ensure its generally dry. I have also DIY-installed a small KDK exhaust fan to blow out the smell and air whenever I am boiling things or air frying something. I use a Leifheit clean twist disc mop to clean the kitchen floor if it's too sticky (usually after air frying); vacuuming is good but I prefer to save that little bit more of electricity if I can. I think you are doing great so far, managing video editing and doing housework and cooking! Keep it up!

In SG, must always let wifey win. Otherwise, you get cold shoulders. She is queen. Then, you can become king. For the kitchen latch in front oft he sink, good to have a piece of drying cloth to soak all the water that was spilled over. Why get a manual vacuum cleaner when you can get a robot vacuum cleaner to do the job? You can programme it daily to clean your house when you are out. Anyway, creative marketing story line. By the way, you have yet to buy durian for your wife ......

The trick lies in understanding two key points: 1. Everyone is right in their own context. 2. Disagreement is not about right or wrong. You might wonder how this is possible. Let me explain. Everyone has their own “internal maps,” which are simplified navigation systems for interacting with the real world. What we consider “right” aligns with our internal map. We agree with what matches this map, so when we disagree with an opinion, or someone disagrees with ours, it doesn’t necessarily mean one of us is right or wrong. It simply indicates a mismatch in our internal maps. Once we grasp this concept, we can reduce animosity when someone disagrees with us. It doesn’t mean they’re wrong or we’re wrong; it just means our internal maps aren’t aligned in that particular instance. Furious disagreements can be an opportunity to refine and update our internal maps if we choose to do so.

I used to get so exasperated that he didn't wash the dishes clean enough or that he left the sink area wet, doesn't clean up the stove, etc. Thankfully, after a few years, he improved. On occasions where he was short, I'll just finish up the job for him. Better still, we eat out most of the time now, so no more conflict over hubby's sloppy dishwashing!! :-)

Of course lah cannot deny you are doing more than the regular hubby but it's nice to understand your wifey's standard of cleanliness. I think for such cases it's a matter of communication. Can approach any issues as neutral as possible and with understanding, both parties will be less frustrated. We all have our own expectations and it's not fair for us to think that people should meet our expectations all the time so compromise is the key!

Re round 1. Fold a dry towel and put it at the sink (near your body) to soak up the wetness.

Thank you for the video and sharing an aspect of your personal life! For the kitchen sink issue, just place a towel at the edge of the sink. To avoid getting chastised about the floor not being clean enough, get a robo-vacuum/mop...then blame the robot for being lazy! Joking aside, keep up the good work, Ghib Oji-san ... and Moms was the MVP in this "battle"!

Hahahha. When my hubby cooks, he uses dishes and utensils worthy of 2 meals - am Im busy doing the endless washing both before and after meals. Tabao or eat out is best. 😄 Thankfully for me, he is very clean and cleans the house better than me 😀 Use constructive feedback versus nagging or scolding, works better with them. Lol, turns out its a sponsored video for the vacuum cleaner 😄🙂🙃

Its very normal.... all wives think (and they are right) they are better and cleaner at their housework... so just give up and let them do it :) Play an assistant and supportive role sometimes. LOL.

I do washing and also change the sponge. Basically, I am the kitchen manager.
