The lady gives an irrelevant comparisons about the three and showed clearly no prior knowledge about the subject vehicles. SHE HAD TROUBLE SETTING UP THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION, she didn’t like that the CX50 doesn’t have a touchscreen but complained about how complicated the touchscreen in Kia, she then preferred the generic speakers in CRV while the CX50 has a BOSE premium sound system. I mean, c’mon who still uses Bluetooth these days? Oh, didn’t I mention that the CX50 offers a wireless CarPlay that can be use for touchscreen?

My wife decided to get the Kia Sportage XPro prestige and absolutely loves it. It has more power than you are giving it credit. Sure it could be more.. but I was passing everyone with ease on the freeway on a 350 mile road trip in utah and Idaho. And you practically can have it drives itself if you just stay in a lane and occasionally touch the steering wheel. And having the 17s really soak up the bumps. So to each their own.

Their review was brutally skewed. What drive mode were they in? And passing an issue? NOT. Ridiculous. They didn’t mention that the floor lowers in the Sportage as well but they did for the CRV. I just hated this review, who judges a car by there you can put a purse? Seriously that’s what the hangers are for on the back of the seat, but they didn’t see that either. This was just awful. Cannot say I agree with this review at all. It came off as extremely extremely biased towards the CRV. You knew from the moment they are going to choose that as the winner. They looked over many many many features of the Sportage. As far as the acceleration of the Sportage you must've had an extremely under tuned vehicle, I agree there is some lack in acceleration, it is nowhere near what you describe. I've been driving mine for three months now and when I go to pass somebody the acceleration is definitely there. Also you completely overlooked the tech advantage in the Sportage, not one word was mentioned about the 24 inch instrument/infotainment set up it is one of the most impressive things about the car and not one word was said about it. And even though the Sportage had more storage space you kept mentioning over and over and over how good the storage space was in the CRV along with that you did not even mention the massive amount of legroom in the backseat or any of the other features in the backseat of the Sportage. Again this was an incredibly bias review. Wone other thing there is absolutely no mention of the hybrid version which completely negates any acceleration issues. I had a CRV for two years and traded in for the Sportage and it was the best thing I ever did. Hands down.Thank you.

The Sportage definitely best tech of the three. The CR-V seems the most practical. I'd give the CX-50 the looks and engine power (Turbo engine) and the edge in off-roading. My pick... I would get the Mazda. Its infotainment system is the weakest but it's not like I will be using it as a laptop. Google maps, back up cam, and play my music is all I need for it. Cargo space is more than enough. But this review needs a second round with the all-new redesigned CR-V.

The infotainment system is strange, but once you get used to it, it’s wonderful! I have the CX-30, which has the exact same setup for the infotainment. The dials can be annoying when you actually want to search for something in your library, since it has to go from point A to point B. But, I just leave it on an Apple Music radio or my downloaded library and pausing and skipping or backtracking is easy! And you don’t have to reach for it, since it is right under your hand. I did not like it before, but I love it now! They make you pay 400$ for navigation, so apple/google maps it was, for me 🤣 It also has two preset buttons for nav and music, then a home button to take you to the home page, or press it twice and you’re out of CarPlay/android auto.

We’re a CR-V family so clearly I’m a fan but I think the methodology for this comparo is flawed. No mention of alternative hybrid and phev drivetrains, wireless carplay, tech safety features (important for family suv shoppers), govt-safety tests, and trim upgrades (the sweet spot for value to features). Finally, the elephant in the room: Toyota RAV4 noticeably absent and unmentioned.

I have to say, there are a lot of people that say no to the center console knob in the mazda, but I can't get enough of it. I will say that Apple Car Play sometimes isn't perfect with it, but I totally get the perspective that Mazda wants the driver to enjoy the drive and limit the distractions. I don't have to look away from the road to look at a screen close enough to touch. The screen is within my eyesight of the road and the buttons and the knob do everything you need. With Apple Carplay and Android auto, there's really no reason to say the infotainment system is crap because many audiences don't interface with the car's system

You complained about the USB port location in the CX-50, but the reality is that you don't plug a cable into that port every time you get in the car. Most people would plug a cable into the USB port and leave it plugged in, probably for years. You just unplug your phone from the cable when you get out. And if plugging the cable in once is really that much of a hassle, then you can just use the CX-50's wireless CarPlay.

I own a cx50 in top trim, this vehicle is as enjoyable to drive as a small luxury sport suv would be. don't take this review seriously until you test drive the cx50. For young couple with young kids it has more than adequate cargo space in fact it has a lot more that you may possibly need believe me, steering is on point! Maybe the best steering wheel in the entire csuv class. Fuel economy is also adequate for the power you get. Best in class in the horse power and torque department. No cvt junc, it has mazda's tried and true 6 speed automatic. The Bose sound system is actually very good. Best in class towing capability. Wireless android auto and car play, heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel heated back seats, traffic jam assist with stop and go and many many more options. Guys what else can i say? I have to introduce the true winner, cx50. Sportage isn't even in the game it only looks good but between crv and cx50 i believe it only comes down to your age, if you're 25-40 you'll love cx50, but if you're a grandma or grandpa wanna pick up the grandkids from school or go get your online groceries picked up at Walmart, crv is for you.

Edmunds lost credibility with this one. Poorly executed review with the most popular drivetrains not represented and crowning an outdated CR-V as winner that doesn’t belong in the same category as the CX-50 or the Sportage, let alone the Sportage Hybrid. And no RAV-4 at all? I think the Edmunds team was only able to secure the vehicles that were sitting on their local dealer lots because had they found a Toyota RAV-4 Hybrid or Kia Sportage Hybrid this “review” would look totally different. I have a CX-50 (traded out of a Kia Sorento/X-Line). It was just too large. All that Kia tech is kind of crap sometimes. It would do weird, random things for no reason. The CX-50 literally has the same Bose system the Kia had and it sounds fantastic. I drove the CRV and it was too slow for me. It's audio isn't nearly where the Bose is. The 2023 CX-50 has wireless CarPlay & Android Auto as well. I love the CX-50. It did take me about 4 drives and some time in the garage to master the click wheel, but once you learn it, I honestly like it better than touch. Even though it becomes touch in CarPlay, I still used the wheel. Only complaint I have on the CX-50 is it's wireless charging pad sucks. Had the same issue in the Kia, too. I just bought a 12 Volt to Magsafe and snap my phone into that. It's black and tucked away behind the cup holders, looks good and keeps me charged while in CarPlay. No visible wires.

It has more power, more luxury, more standard safety, and better interior/exterior quality. It is more like a premium vehicle -- so much so that the comparison doesn't seem fair. Edmunds has decided 'entertainment' is far more important than doing basic homework before a review/comparison. Watch this video and the comparison review with Alana Scherr in October 2020. 'One person' in each review speaks to the technical/drivetrain topics while the 'other person' serves as so-called comic relief and focuses on the subjective things (i.e. Alana: succulent planter storage space test; Lauren: purse space test). Go back to the Edmunds comparison of the CRV, CX-5, and RAV4 with editors Mike Magrath, James Riswick and Mark Takahashi in 2013 and the difference from the previously stated comparisons is shocking.

If you de-badge these cars and get a consumer to decide between these three, no sane person would choose the cr-v. It is the most outdated, has the least amount of features and drives the worst. It's the badge that sells. I'd buy the sportage and cx-50 over the cr-v any day.

I own a 2018 CR-V. I would not buy another one. In my opinion the engine is too small for it’s own good. Around town it feels sluggish. The fuel economy though is outstanding. I get mid to upper 30’s. However, on the highway it’s another story. I have driven from Wisconsin to Florida and back on two separate occasions. Traffic moves at 80-90 miles per hour. I get 23 miles per gallon under those circumstances. You can feel like you are really pushing it. My previous car was a 2013 Acura RDX with a 3.5 liter V6. That vehicle never ran out of steam and was quite enjoyable to drive. I will admit that the fuel economy was about 2/3 (around town) of what my CR-V delivers. I never took it on a road trip.

Mazda CX50 is the clear winner here. Gorgeous inside out and a great powertrain. Only gripes are Mazda deeming touch controls suitable some times as oppose to all times and the six speed auto should be an eight speed to help acceleration and fuel economy. CRV is ancient and only thing it does well is efficiency and space. Shortage is ugly and uncompetitive. Horrible powertrain options in the Sportage. Ranking is Mazda in first followed by Honda with Kia in a distant third.

Mazda compete with luxury brands not CRV or Kia. The car reviews are not designed to drive Mazda cx50 therefore they didn’t like what Mazda to offer. Family is not always 4,5 people if so we have bigger suv like cx9 . Most people drive luxury brands like bmw, Mercedes, Lexus… they don’t complain how small the cars was I an sure Honda CR-V maybe bigger than those luxury brands too more ROOMY

This comparison seems like it was done by people that don’t know much about cars. She’s good on camera but missed a lot of points and clearly didn’t know what audio system sounded the best. Honda notoriously makes some of the worst audio systems, and Mazda’s Bose system is one of the best.

This "test" feels like some Edmunds' content manager decided that their typical videos are overly aimed at an "enthusiast audience." As a result, things got really, really, really watered down. The CX-50's steering can make your shoulders hurt? No mention of the Sportage's optional hybrid or the lousy dual-mode climate and audio controls? Forgetting that the CR-V has a big redesign coming in a few months?

I like the Mazdas as well. Since I have a Mazda 6 manual transmission vehicle already. But I'm not a fan of the entertainment will and definitely not a fan of gas mileage that doesn't even exceed 30 miles per gallon. My Mazda 6 gets 35 on average highway, and if I slow down it'll get almost 40. That is the one thing for the CX 50 that keeps me from considering it.

Man I can’t stand the CRV. I drove one for 6 months and it was awful. I never felt more dorky in my life. It’s bloated, slow, won’t heat up in Minnesota winters, and leaked gas into the oil. I traded it for a rav in dark gray with blacked out everything else and what a huge, welcome change. Now I’m eyeing the cx50 as it looks so good. Honda lost me. Used to only drive them but they are now so blah, slow, and just not what I’m about.

I bought a new 2021 Mazda CX-5. I believe the CX-50 has the same engine. It burns engine oil from day one. I looked up and found a bulletin for my car to be repaired. I took it in and they agreed that my car fell under that bulletin according to the VIN but, that I had to wait for the engine light to come on. By my calculation that won't happen until one oil change after my warranty is up. Don't take a chance and buy Mazdas. They don't stand by their product unlike Honda for instance. At the time I was shopping for my car, they had fuel dilution problems with some of their engines. Similar to my problem but worse. They put out a bulletin and fixed it. Mazda will do whatever it takes to avoid paying to fix the problem, even when they themselves admit that there's a problem.

Good Lord what an inept description of the sound system comparison between the vehicles. I bet you she didn't actually go into system and turn on the surround sound feature of the Bose stereo in the cx50... I mean come on saying the CRV audio is better good Lord... and everyone says the infotainment system I the CRV is better but it's so freaking slow you touch the screen and if you're in a hurry it will sometimes wait because it doesn't know what to do. Transmission location for shifting gears is dumb as hell, loud noisy everything's made of plastic but hey it's a precious Honda whatever🙄
