Viking is what you called someone who went off by ship to trade, explore and raid. Viking is also a verb for doing just that.

To answer your question, yes, the Vikings did come across the Muslims. Aside from being great fighters they were also great navigators and explorers. They explored, raided and traded everywhere from what is now Canada to Baghdad.

Was the beheading different from your country 1,400 years ago? Pakistan was part of India 1,400 years ago. From what I've studied, wives were put on the funeral pyres alive to burn with their husbands, sati it was called. That was pretty brutal. Things were brutal everywhere in that time, everywhere.

@@adnanatthemovies That's interesting. I always like to learn things about a different culture. I knew Pakistan had it's differences with India. That creating Pakistan and giving the independence seemed historically a good move. You'll love Vikings, but it was a brutal time for many in the west. Also, in other regions. The Christians going on Crusades to drive the Muslims out of Jerusalem was really brutal. And then the Muslins invading Spain. That too was brutal. But it was the times they lived in. Thank goodness for the present.

@@rhiahlMT I like many native people from Sindh would really disagree with you. Our culture is more in lined with India than this fantasy land we are living in now 🙄 Agree, I saw this video of the fallen of world war and they really explained how we are living in times of a long peace now. And I hope it would go more longer.

It should be noted that this series is in no way historically accurate. The creator of the show was very lazy with his research and only went to a single inexperienced historian for guidance in recreating the Norse culture, rather than going to multiple historians and cross checking facts and information. Over 70% of what is presented in the show is either exaggerated or outright made up. While it is fun to watch as a fantasy drama, to call it a "historically documentary" as some people have would be laughable. Especially the clothing, which is of modern design, not historical design. However, the show does get some things right. Some important information to keep in mind. The people in the show are called Norse who were various tribes and kingdoms that inhabited Scandinavia. The Norse originated from Germanic tribes that migrated to Scandinavia between 10,000 BC and 5000 BC but they did not gain world recognition until the 8th century when Viking raiders pillaged the island of Lindisfarne in 793 CE. This led to what is known as the "Viking" or "Norse" age. "Viking" was a job where Norse sailors would partake in "Fara I Viking" (to go on expedition) to raid foreign lands, settle in new lands, capture slaves, and trade with foreign kingdoms. However, many people today misinterpret this and call all the Norse "Vikings" which is equivalent to calling everyone in medieval Europe as murderers or religious fanatics... yet people did other things. Viking was a thing someone did, it was not something that all the Norse did. This is especially important since the Norse did not refer to themselves as Vikings, even when they did go on a Viking expedition. They commonly referred to themselves as Norseman, Norse, Otsmen, Danes, Svair's, etc. Some of the things that the show gets right is mainly about the Norse society and social customs: 1) The Norse would train their children to fight at a very early age to defend themselves and their homes from invaders. Mainly men were trained but in certain regions or kingdoms, women were also taught to fight. In the Norse culture, women had somewhat more agency and rights than in other cultures. 2) While the Norse were brutal, they were not savages. It should also be noted that the environment they lived in was hash and brutal and people died easily from simple things such as sickness, so the people had to be harsh and brutal in order to survive. Despite this, the Norse were a strict and lawful people, rather than the mindless barbarians that media often depicts them to be. Adding to this, the Norse are credited for creating one of the first judicial systems in history (keep in mind that around this point in history, with many cultures, what was considered lawful and morally just was different from the modern day view of what is considered lawful and just).Tings or Things, as they were called, were assemblies of free man, community members, and chiefs that carried out local disputes, political decisions, religious gatherings, and criminal prosecutions. For example, if a criminal was found guilty of murdering someone, they would often be exiled from the kingdom, or executed. When exiled, anyone could kill said individual, including the family members of the person they killed. If there was a dispute over land or property, two people would have a judicial duel in a sanctified area to solve the dispute. whomever drew blood first was the winner or "the one who was right". They even allowed things such as civil divorce where either the wife or husband could divorce the other and get benefits. While their system was not perfect or even fair at times, they were still a lawful society at the end of the day. Lastly, different Norse kingdoms had different rules and social norms; some more strict, others more relaxed. 3) While most Norse knew how to fight, many did not wish to be warriors or go on a Viking expedition. Most people in Norse society were farmers, smiths, dressmakers, fisherman, hunters, writers, boat makers, poets, merchants, etc. They were especially renowned for their boat making skills.
