For $1600, the Canatrol should have a carbon filter. And a water reservoir for humidity. And a humidifier, actually, rather than just a sponge. And a separate chamber for drying vs curing. And an app that informs you when the drip pan is full.
@lucky6666

Yep, but it's still worth $1600 vs the alternative for a small grow to manage a chaotic schedule for space and convenience. Need competition and more buyers...
@JoeyProffitt1978
@JoeyProffitt1978 8 ай бұрын
@lucky6666 I agree that competition is needed. That would drop the price and increase quality. Worth it?? We gonna have to agree to disagree there. I've had it in the cart several times. Because I have the money and I do want one. But there just ain't noway I can justify the price, so I still haven't hit that buy button. I've been growing for years without one and get along just fine. I've thought it over countless times and think my absolute top dollar for one would be 1k. And even that's pushing it a bit. I just don't see the value.

Reducing fungus gnats can be done by putting red construction tape all the way around the rim of the pot with most of the tape sticking up above the edge. The poor fliers come up from the soil and get stuck on the exposed tape. I've done it for a while now. It's easy and practically free, which is why folks don't seem to want to try it. OK- spend money :)

I use fabric bags and put a couple extra bags of mix in the tent that I keep wet to buffer RH. A variable speed exhaust fan is a must. Misters don't raise RH, they wet your plants making them prone to PM. You need to keep your plants dry. My RH is high 60's but my plants stay dry.

If your having trouble with a filter not working try these things: -Ensure you have a quality filter and replace every 2 years or so -ensure your room is as close to air tight as you can get, and -the filter has to run constantly to ensure negative pressure. This last point can be tricky if you dont have a filter fan that stays on at a preset level if not triggered by high temps. Mine runs at "1" constantly and turns on to "10" when the temp hits 28°c and have never had an issue with smell. Good luck.

My photoperiods have been kicked outside and they are exploding with vegetative growth still, can't wait til flower, one is topped and one is left to grow naturally, can really see what topping has done.

If u can smell ur grow with a carbon filter ur most likely running it on to high of a setting. Most ppl dont realize if u push air thru the filter to fast the carbon doesnt have contact long enough to remove odor. When i set up my 4x8 i used the ipower filter and wveryone said they were trash filters funny part was mine worked flawlessly for a year each but they are usually larger than other brands of the same

The good way to trim faster is to put it in a plastic bag that's food grade and gently roll it after it's dry enough not to dry. And slightly roll the bud it will take of all those sugar leafs. And it normally bounces back to its normal shape.

I started mixing neem cake in my soil, more concentrated on top, you might see a gnat every now and then but just one and it's gone the next day, bought captain jacks dead bug juice for bugs on leaves and it fixed my thrips before they became a problem, neem cake can be made into a tea for spraying but will make your grow smell like a portapotty at the lake lol anyway, neem cake in the soil and captain jacks is simple, non toxic, and it works better than mosquito dunks and anything else I've tried

I use nematodes for IPM. Had a bad fungus nat problem my last grow. After applying the nematodes within a month I changed out my sticky traps and it's been about 6 months now with no fungus Nats. Good option for organic growers. For use of nematodes or organic growing in general I would recommend a raised bed as your best option or any pot at least 15gals or larger.
@gandalf8216

I use dilute neem oil (10ml per liter of water) against thrips and fungus gnat. It's a slow extermination, so it's best used as a preventative. It's not absorbed by the plants, and evaporates on its own within days. It's technically not a toxin but a feeding and reproduction inhibitor, meaning thrips won't suck any sap out of your plants, and their eggs won't develop properly. It also seems to inhibit population growth for the fungus gnats, but it's just a significant slow down and not a full stop. The only way to truly be rid of fungus gnats, in my own experience, is to dry out the soil and let it be dry for a few days. The big disadvantage with neem oil is that it must be applied thoroughly and daily when there's an infestation, otherwise it's just a simple washing with it a couple times per week. Neem oil also smells bad. Like burnt rubber mixed with burnt electronics, flavored with burnt excrement. I hate the smell, but it's in the "water-feed-health check-neem spray" routine loop, and works good enough for me, so I'm happy.

6:54 Air passing through the filter too fast won’t be fully scrubbed of smell. Two ways of slowing down The speed of the air going through the filter. #1 you could obviously turn back the fan speed #2 increase the filter surface area. (Get a longer/larger filter) Also, Some people just put a fan on a filter and leave it in the space. And I don’t recommend that. You want to gently pull air into the space through the cracks. Almost creating creating a vacuum in the air. This “negative pressure” on the leaf surface Will help pull moisture up through the plant.

The sponge was a very specific choice. By making it a replacement sponge it holds Just exactly the right amount of water so the system isn't weighed down logistically figuring how much to pass between water and charcoal. Additionally it makes the system less accessible and that's good. Less chance you'll start fooling with it and ruin the process. As far as the smell goes, that's really a separate issue. Imnsho

When transplanting seedlings, do I need to water the seedlings first or, on the contrary, do not water for several days so that the soil is dry?
@stangcobra592
@stangcobra592 Жыл бұрын
starting in solo cups moisten the soil before you add the taproot, not wet just enough to stick together when squeezed in hand.Carefully put in seed & add just a couple drops of h20 on top and lightly cover with soil. I germinate in the dark, when it pops from soil I then give it light. From that point you don't wanna over-water cause growth stunting and droopy leaves will occur. I just mist with a sprayer and add with an eye dropper for the first week..

I got a load of fungus gnats with the compost I used in my last grow, I didn't isolate it before I used it. In my earth boxes I used nematodes and Captain Jacks BT. I also had potted girls in Rain Science Bags and fed with Mega Crop. I took volcanic tuft and covered the top of the pot where about 1/2 an inch. Well, that's what it accumulated to after a couple of applications after watering in. It's actually very helpful with Rain Science Bags in keeping the moisture level up. Rain Science Bags dry out very quickly! Normally I wouldn't use that method, but this was not an organic growth and I will just recycle that into another batch of media. Is an outstanding source of silica!

Loved the vid you did on Cannatrol..... It has troubled me ever since. It has thrown a wrench in the hole 60/60 rule. Every bit of cannabis content out there is either wrong or vague... I can't find any of the Science anywhere about a room I can dry in an not be a hurry to jar.
@GardenTalkwithMrGrowIt
@GardenTalkwithMrGrowIt Жыл бұрын
Yup, no papers on the 60/60 method; it's just people saying, "this works best for me" or "this commercial facility does it this way." Although, there is science out there showing a specific window for drying where you want the buds to be at a specific moisture content and water activity. If buds dry too slow then microbes grow such as bacteria, fungi and yeasts. If drying too quickly, uneven drying can occur which many relate to a lower quality end product. A water content of 15-16% and water activity of .60 is low enough to stop the growth of microbes and you can get to that water activity with different temperature and humidity settings. There's more to be said here and I really should do a whole video on it. The off-gassing that happens during dry and cure is another interesting topic.

@@GardenTalkwithMrGrowIt Just jarred three out of four plants after trying to chase dew-point between 52-54F dew-point while plants hung for 10 days. Temps in the basement were between 66-71. I adjusted Relative Humidity wherever I needed too keep dew-point in my target zone. Best jard bud thus far.. I feel I saved all the terps and the bud feels amazing... seems like there is still moisture. Branches didn't snap... I suspect like in the Cannatrol. I've been trying to find Science on this and have come up empty handed... I'm sure someone like Dr. Bugbee would maybe know the Science, but I looked and found nothing from him either... I can't believe someone isn't talking about this somewhere. I'd Love to watch if you did a video and talk about drying outside a Cannatrol. 60/60 is too dry and it's like playing roulette I think... Sometimes I get it in the jar in time and sometimes I'm a day late on jarring and lose so many terps I feel.

I saw it mentioned once on another channel the real reason he flushed was to get rid of excess B vitamins in the flower and it was the B vitamins that caused the flavor change. Not flushing out nutrients like NPK

Uhh, when it comes to smell,, some say you are running the fan to strong. Overloading the ability of the filter to scrub.

for the guy having a problem with smell filtration lower your temps and make sure you have no air leaks except for where you specifically want air to enter then you should be fine unless you actually do have a bad carbon filter or fan for your space

Regarding the Cannatrol and smell... Do you think putting the unit inside a small 2x2x2 tent would help for folks who can't have any smell? Would that negatively impact the units operation?

You can stick your cannatrol in a small tent and use carbon filters and never smell any thing at all

Has anyone ever said that not flushing at the end of flower makes for harsher smoke ? Notice sum cultivars are harsh that get from dispensaries that I go too. So what have u heard when it comes to taste and flushing.

Is it necessary to cut the cotyledon leaves when picking and dig deep so that that place is underground? I read somewhere that new roots will form there.

my VPD readings are what the temp/humidity gauge says in the tent, that's as far as I go with that, no real need to check EC if your feeding routine is consistent, but I will check runoff ppm on ocasion to get an idea of the soil environment especially close to chop..

This may sound like a dumb question to some of you. However I am curious of this. I’m growing using an all organic living soil method, I’m well into veg going to flip to flower soon. but im showing signs of calcium magnesium deficiency, would it be ok to use liquid cal-mag brand calcium, magnesium or something like the liquid sensi cal as a foliar spray?just to get a control over the issue before amendments can start working? I have a feeling the answer is no, it will cause nute burn. I have personally never heard this addressed and im in that situation currently. So I’m curious…

I grow in my garage in a 4x4 tent and it is 90 with the AC in the tent! What is the max temp during flower? I like it around 74-80 Degrees F but this heat and humidity sucks!

Co2 or fresh air , mini split But I hate summer grows too. Michigan summers are brutal near the lakes. If I’m forced to flower in summer I make sure it starts flowering in the heat so it’ll acclimate and I got a dedicated double window fan to bring in fresh air from outside. Or I’ll blast co2 and run my AC on lowest setting . AC in the last couple weeks.
