The hate should be directed towards Disney making this a rush job and not animating it in house. The success of this movie is going to give Disney the idea that they can continue to rush and outsource their movies

It wasn’t outsourced, it just wasn’t made at the Burbank studio. It was made at Walt Disney Animation Vancouver. It is also worth noting that the Vancouver division only opened in 2022. That doesn’t mean the film couldn’t have used more time, just that this is the Vancouver division’s first film.

I found the movie to be mid- as in truly middling. But one thing that the other negative reviews brought up and kind of center around that you haven't is how Disney absolutely screwed their animators with this film and are trying to cement a practice of circumventing their animators' unions and get cheap labour abroad where there aren't any unions, giving everyone the worst of both worlds. The animation was decent, but not stellar due to the circumstances of production. One thing is that people really don't want to reward this movie for its BTS reasons, other than it just being mid.

I dunno, seems more to me they will sometimes go to that studio and elsewise have Burbank handle it. I just choose to look at the glass being half full as opposed to half empty. I am from Hawaii, I am happy to see Polynesia being represented on the big screen. In some areas they missed the mark, but there are a lot of things they got right from a certain point of view. Some of the critics don’t know what they are talking about. I would of rather see it as a series as opposed to a film because they can have more time to develop the supporting characters. But overall it was good film and I hope the story continues on film or streaming service. Oh by the way, my daughter can’t get enough of hearing Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” singing “Can I get a Chee Hoo”. Thank you for your counter argument to the negative feedback to this film.

Yeah I’m still disappointed Tangled never got nearly as much love and attention as Frozen or Moana (which slowly gained its popularity) but at the same time that prevented Tangled from getting a soulless husk of a movie just for money. The directors of the series clearly loved the movie and the characters, and I’m happy they got to actually treat it as a sequel instead of a typical kids show and slice of life genre where every episode is unrelated and essentially there is no continuity or plot.

Critics have become obsessed with how a movie is formatted over the soul and joy of a film. Too many people think that for an animated film to be good, it must hit the level of Pixar's Coco or Wall-E. Not even to be great, just good. Which is why many critics are seen as out of touch. Being an entertaining movie matters and audiences love that. Critics need to reconsider their way of thinking before they become completely irrelevant.

i would personally wait until this is streaming (or just ☠️) to watch purely because of the horrible production practices it normalizes the animators had been working on a moana tv/streaming series for a couple of years but only had, what, a year or less than to turn it into a full-fledged movie on the whims of the execs? I can't imagine the crunch the animators were under even if it did turn out beautiful in the end addendum: it will probably make a lot of money regardless, but i just really don't want this to become the norm for animation (lookin at you too, Sony), of pushing artists just to meet an arbitrary release date

Definitely less than a year because at the time of Wishs release, the intention was to bring out an original Iranian princess animated movie this November, now either that film is never seeing the light of day, or it will be straight to Disney+ but Iger did say they were "quietly cancelling" projects and it is a lot easier to do this when they have not even made the announcement.

I haven't watched the movie so I don't know if they did this, but I think a reason people didn't like the movie is because the side characters felt unneccissary, like they were never used in a meaningful way. In my personal option a tv series would have allowed Loto, Moni and Kele to get their own moments to shine. In fact, I came up with some of my ideas for the side characters: Loto: As the craftswoman of the group, it would be cool if she used different gadgets she invents to help the gang, and over the course of the seiries have her upgrade the ship in order for them to survive more dangerous waters. Moni: Aside from being a fan of Maui, I would like him to play a role as someone who can decipher acient text that can help the gang reach the different islands as well as uncovering the mysteries surrounding their history using a combination of oral history and ancient carvings. Kele: As a farmer, it would be cool if he can identify which plants are safe to eat, how to perserve food, as well as as which plants can be used for medicinal purposes. So that also makes him the crew's doctor.

Walking out the theater, I was gitty & hyped, followed by anger towards SaberSpark for tainting my experience and at myself for letting him do so. I agree that if the movie had more time or if it was a show, characters could've been more fleshed out. The songs, to me, are awesome! Especially Get Lost, Can I Get a Chi-Hoo?, and Go Beyond. Besides from an audience perspective the runtime thing is barely even noticeable if you just look at the movie with an open mind. I don't agree with the statements about the soundtrack being worse "because tik tok musicians" made it, I personally like those girls and don't think they have less music talent than Lin, just a different style (obviously). It's definitely a bit of an echo chamber situation, but I agree with the anger of people that wanted a well-written series instead of a rushed movie.. Thank you. Good lord, i've only seen negativity around it and it disheartened me a lot, for all it's flaws i still absolutely enjoyed it, sure it's not perfect but it was still enjoyable for me and yeah Matangi should have had more time i agree with that and built on a false pretense where thought she'd be similar to Mother Gothel so it felt like a bit of a let down when she wasn't BUT i don't mind the misunderstood character trope as many other seem to do so i was surprised when that's not where they were going with her. I think her character could have been good if given more spotlight, maybe next time.

I agree! I went to see this movie with my family, and we all ended up loving it. I went with no other expectations, and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the story was good, though I will admit that it is pretty obvious that this was supposed to be a TV show. And it’s a shame that from what I’ve read that Disney pulled that at the last minute. However, with what they pulled together, I thought it was a good follow up to the first one. Maui and Moana’s friendship was very sweet! I loved her little sister! I do think it was weird that you didn’t see the big bad until the post credits scene. I’m hoping if there’s ever a third one, they’ll have more time to flesh it out.

Why? They keep selling you slop to the point ppl say it's ai generated-
@sreyasv247425 күн бұрын
I disagree. It's not nostalgia, the second movie is just not up there. The first movie was story driven, it showed the characters and their development without hindering the plot. The second movie has too many characters just for the sake of "forming a crew" and their roles were never fully explored. A mechanic who is obsessed with fixing things that aren't broken to show her as a "quirky" nerd, a history buff who basically lives to fangirl Maui, a grandpa who they took along for his farming skills.....which never even got used. The whole crew thing was just to find Maui, and then it was just Maui and Moana doing everything again. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie. But it's not even close to the first one. When people dislike Moana 2, it's not because of Moana, it's because of the side characters that got too much screen time for doing so little. You can actually take Frozen 2 as a reference for multiple characters who all had a role to play to justify their screen time. The movie spent too much time showing each of the sidekicks and their quirks and the plot of the movie ended in almost no time. Hopefully this means they can actually do something with the sidekicks in the third movie rather than continuing to pad the movie with their "running gag" behaviors.
@flamurajdini149625 күн бұрын
@@sreyasv2474Hey I agree it’s not as good as the first, but I do think Moana 2 had a stronger 3rd act climax than Moana 1. I say this because something that really put me off from the first films third act was the “characters fight then leave each other” trope that a lot of movies go for. Maui goes away from Moana and she is left alone, and then randomly comes back later on in the movie with no reason or thought of why he came back. In Moana 2, it was more intense and the stakes where high. As a result, I agree that the first film is better in terms of originality, music, and characters, but Moana 2 is still good and has a better climax/3rd act in my opinion.

I think people are so negative to this because of what it REPRESENTS rather than the film itself. Like, what is going to happen if this film becomes a huge success? It's going to tell Disney that switching format from tv show to movie and more than likely crunching and rushing its team is good because they were rewarded for it. Like imagine you're making a little tv show and things are going fine. Then your boss comes in and tells you to take everything and turn it into a feature length film and oh it's coming out next year, good luck! That's fucking terrifying.

Its nice to see a “in defense” of this movie, while I agree that it didn’t need to exist, but a lot of reviewers are just that, they don’t offer a good enough review, the only one that got something worth to say is ModernGurlz. As a big Moana fan, I actually quite liked it, it expanded the lore, and even made Moana to a demigoddess, something that narratively made a lot of sense, though I have to say it was very fanfiction-y, there were a lot of Moana/Maui (not necessarily shippy) fanfics that was written exactly like that, its exactly like that, down to Maui on his knees, Moana in his arms, him crying and praying and the spirits and Moana’s ancestor comes along to magically turn her to a demigoddess, or just to revive her, seriously that one scene is exactly like that, someone definitely scrolled through tumblr and ao3. I agree that the song isn’t all that bad, but I disagree that it being better than the first one, it didn’t feel like its a music for a musical movie

I just hope that in the movie of Shrek 5, once Disney buys DreamWorks, all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses appear, especially the most important character in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, with her best friends Zephyr, Tip, Dash, Kiera and Catalina, and besides, they will be the new main characters of the movie of Shrek 5 so that they help Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others to defeat Rumpelstiltskin, Death, Drizella Tremaine, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, as Queen Grimhilde, Lady Tremaine, Captain Hook, Hades, Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Marina del Rey, Ursula, Gaston LeGume, Jafar, John Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Yzma, Dr. Facilier, Zhan Tiri, Judge Claude Frollo, Mother Gothel, Tamatoa, Drago Bludvist, Grimmel The Grisly, Mor'du, King Runeard, Prince Hans, Pitch Black, Dr. Zara, Queen Nerissa, King Magnifico, Rapunzel (Shrek) and Morgana, and to prevent Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks from ruling and destroying all The Multiverse Forever, especially The Kingdom of Far Far Away, Shrek along with his wife named Princess Fiona will need help from their new friends which are all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses, as Prince Florian, Princess Snow White, Prince Asha, Mateo, Queen Elena, Prince Desmond, Princess Amber, Prince James, Princess Isabel, Prince Hugo, Princess Sofia, Namaari, The Futuristic Four, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica and Melody, but actually, Melody is The First and Only that she is not a True Official Disney Princess, because Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is The First and Only Daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others also need Melody's help to protect and save all The Multiverse, especially Their Kingdom of Far Far Away away from Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, because Melody is The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but also The Death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the movie of Shrek 3, she has felt heartbroken and that caused her own death in her Kingdom of Far Far Away, and all The Inhabitants of The Kingdom of Far Far Away are saddened by The Death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now The Kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be The New Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Boots, with Kitty Softpaws, with Perrito, with Dulcinea, with The Three Diablos, with Goldilocks, with The Three Bears, with The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, with The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and with the Others to meet again with their friends from their school who are actually Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany and his love interest, girlfriend and fiancée Princess Guinevere to take them back to his Kingdom of Far Far Away, and also The Romance of all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses, especially The Romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, The Romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Merida, The Romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, The Romance of Varian and Cassandra, The Romance of Starboy and Princess Asha, The Romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and The Romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think that Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Merida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Merida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Merida is also the same, because whenever Princess Merida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win The Heart of Maui, also Princess Merida to win The Heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win The Heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win The Heart of King Artie, and I also want that Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend and Varian will be Cassandra's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, because Varian leaves fall in love with Cassandra, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Varian gets too close to Cassandra when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for they, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win The Heart of Princess Elsa and also Varian to win The Heart of Cassandra, except Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because she doesn't need a love interest, but also The Rivalry of King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is The Best Ruler of a Kingdom, because both want to do what is best for Their Own Kingdom, because King Artie wants to do the best for his Kingdom of Far Far Away because now he is The New King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for her Kingdom of Arendelle because now she is The New Queen of Arendelle, but at the end, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best ruler of a Kingdom, and that at the end, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the movie of Shrek 5, Shrek becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princes and Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Varian, Jin, Connor, The Baker, Starboy, Mateo, Prince Desmond, Prince James, Prince Hugo, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princes, while Princess Fiona becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princesses and Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Cassandra, Yi, Ruby Gillman, Anastasia Tremaine, Princess Asha, Queen Elena, Princess Amber, Princess Isabel, Princess Sofia, Goldilocks, Namaari, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be The Wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a family in the future, and that also Princess Guinevere is The Wife of King Artie, that they also have a family and that she becomes The New Queen of Far Far Away in The Future.

I think it’s still important to send a reasonable amount of critical hate towards Disney to ensure that shortcuts wont be taken for Moana 3 that’s already been teased. If the could get away with the serial episodic pacing and questionable rendering at times, then they might take shortcuts in Moana 3. Other than that, as a piece of media and especially as a kids movie, Moana 2 had quite abit going on, they could’ve tied the islands dying off to mysterious events like Easter Island. Could’ve gone into the really early wayfinders making it to the Australasian continent while animals have had a natural border separating the biodiversity to this day. One critique I do have is that there was so much untapped potential, aside from the historical aspects being underdeveloped (malayopolenesians both found in Madagascar and south east Asia), engineering like how they moved the Moai or how the boats worked wasn’t tapped into, the farmer and agriculture was also not really shown aside from “we eat coconuts”. Cultivation of yams/ sweet potatoes came from polynesia too. I feel like children shows like phineas and ferb really gave pretty obscure facts that I remember to this day. Abit of education is needed in our media, and children will find it memorable and fun. Especially if they got to try it themselves. Imagine trying to build a sailboat for the pool, or trying to grow your own plants.

I just saw it today and if you want my honest opinion, I can understand why people are mad at Disney but come on! I feel as if this toxic hatred has gone too far, no matter who is running things. The company itself is not the problem, it's the people behind making bad decisions. But aside from that, I ended up loving the movie, whether or not is has the same success as the first film, knowing my only complaint on that one is Pua not going on the journey with Moana. I'm glad to see that he came along this time instead of being left behind. Even if it did stay as a series, maybe the reception would still have been the same thing. moana 2 is okay. i've watched it once, and i'll probably rewatch it once it hits disney+. i really enjoyed what it brings into the mythology of moana's world and i'm actually excited to see what comes next. the biggest thing i've noticed is how this movie was animated to be a show. i rewatched moana the day after watching moana 2 and the difference in animation is so glaring. everything seems to be storyboarded for a tv show. one example is how everything is zoomed in at the characters. we rarely get sweeping shots of the scenery and just enjoy the atmosphere of the islands. the lighting is also very different for moana 2. it seems so artificial somehow. what i'm getting at is that disney didn't seem to want to spend any more money to remake those scenes despite having the money... and they just used whatever was already done with the tv show and cut and paste it into a movie. which just made the narrative clunky. you can really tell how much this movie is set up to be a multi-season tv show with the nalo reveal at the end. despite everything though i still enjoyed it. i just wish that disney gives moana the proper movie treatment if they ever decide to do a moana 3.

I saw it this weekend, and i for one thought it was pretty good, though not great like the original

Yeah Moana 1 was better, but I don't think Moana 2 is a bad movie. While Moana 1 is an 8/10 for me, Moana 2 is a 6/10. Not the best thing out there, but P enjoyable.

I saw many negativ review video about this movie, but I care less about them because I really liked Moana 2. Plus the post-credit scene hints that Moana 3 will happen, and I think it will be worthy to watch

I feel the exact same my only criticism was yeah that it felt a little weird and rushed but nothing unforgivable but also to me it felt like Maui was pasted into the movie I understand why he needed to be there but it just felt weird when he did things And his song was the only one I think wasn’t as good

I…..actually didn’t know this was supposed to be a tv series. 😅 So I wasn’t looking for times that could be the beginnings and ends of episodes. I saw it as a movie and enjoyed it though there were moments where I was like “hahaha…ahhhh the internet critics are gonna tear that scene apart” and they did, so I’ve stayed away from most of my fave critic channels because most of them are roasting this movie alive and I want to continue to enjoy this movie because I found it good and cried wayyyyy too much during it. The grandma scenes, her dying and being reborn….any scene that had her family/ ancestors in it really. It was also nice for the big baddie to not be an underworld god. They usually are in movies, especially sequels… *glares are wrath of the titan* so it was nice to see a change to that formula. I will watch it again because it deviated from the formula (seriously she didn’t end up with a romantic partner, which yay! People are trying to ship her and Maui which no, keep them friends, no hunchback of notre dame 2 sequel stuff here with her getting her own romance). She wants to be there for her people and keep them thriving. That was a driving force in the first movie, so it is for the second. She is steadfast without girlboss mode needed and I love her for it. I know she’s a demigod now but she was so close to being a demigod before that some theories were already circulating for years that she was one already.
