They redid this song with a UK comedian called Roy Chubby Brown which worth a listen. He asks the question we all wanna know "Alice? Alice? Who the f*ck is Alice?"
@djhrecordhound43913 жыл бұрын
Jamel, there's an extra-necessary song fact you'll see other commenters mentioning as well-- "Living Next Door To Alice" became famous for a rude answer line that people would shout between the chorus. "...living next door to Alice (shouted: Alice? Who the f**k is Alice?!!)" Since the Smokie record was mostly a chart hit in Australia and UK areas, the chant got popular enough for hit covers to be recorded. Chant included, of course. This did happen with other songs in the USA and Canada, though: --Tom Jones-Delilah "My my myyy Delilah (shouted: You b**ch, you sl*t, you wh*re!!)" --Billy Idol 80s version or original 60s version by Tommy James and the Shondells-Mony Mony "Here she comes now singin mony mony (shouted: Hey m*th*rf*ck*er, get laid, get f*ck*d!!)" --and of course you already know "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fiyerrr" lmao Glad to add when I can. You are definitely keeping great music alive. Darren

Smokie had a dozen top 20 hits in the UK charts in the 70's. You may not have heard of them in the USA, but they were still very successfull. The lead singer Chris Norman, & drummer, Peter Spencer also wrote for other artists. My favourites are: If you think you know how to love me. Don't play your rock & roll to me. I'll meet you at midnight. Lay back in the arms of someone.

@barriehull70763 жыл бұрын
On the American Top 40 broadcast of 26 May 1979, Casey Kasem reported that Chapman stated that his source of inspiration for "Living Next Door to Alice" was "Sylvia's Mother" by Dr. Hook. "Living Next Door to Alice" is a song co-written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. Originally released by the Australian vocal harmony trio New World in 1972,[1] the song charted at No. 35 on the Australian chart. The song later became a worldwide hit for British band Smokie.

You speak the truth, Jamel! I think pretty much all of us went through a time when we couldn't muster the courage or confidence to ask that one girl out, only to see her get involved with someone else, and forever squandering any chance you might have had. And you're right, that's much more painful than being rejected for asking her out. At least if you get rejected, you'll know to move on. Nobody wants to get rejected, but it's better than this alternative of never knowing! Especially if you've been pining over someone for 24 freaking years!

Yeah I met a girl at a party in college and we hit it off. Ran across her again two more times in the following weeks and moved the next week after. That's the one I think I truly messed up, really did feel a connection. Same with Sandy asking to go on a road trip with her. Said she could swing by and pick me up and we travel and have fun. I passed the invitation up. It's a long story in college. One of my professors said his hero was in class. Didn't know who he was talking about until he said my last name. I never drank or did anything in school. I decided to see how the other side was and partied hard for awhile. To this day I don't know what girls were trying to find out if it was true. Last time I went to party girls were trying to get me drunk. But by then I quit drinking. Sandy told me i picked a goddamn good time to quit. My friends told me I was boring as could be. They told me when I quit drinking i quit everything. Funny in one of my classes. I fell asleep because the professor's voice was monotone. I woke up in the back of the room. Yuvan was massaging my head. I remember looking up at her and saying this feels really good. And then I asked her how did I get back here and where am I? The whole class just died laughing. I don't know if I moved in my sleep or if my classmates just pick me up and move me. back to the other professor he said I was his hero because I didn't care about nothing but girls and partying. Honest to God I have no idea what I did when I was drunk. I don't remember doing nothing. As far as girls go I'm pretty lame. I was good at drinking games and drinking which isn't anything to be good at. The last time I partied I was pushing the limits. I remember drinking a bottle BACARDÍ 151 rum. Then a bottle of Scotch six beers and a glass of Kool-Aid. I ended up throwing up I bleach my friends carpet that was brown to white. Ended up taking my exam the next morning hungover as all get out. 100 questions on the exam. I got a 99 high score in the class. I don't remember a damn thing about that exam. But that ended my partying that ended me drinking. I figured I was trying to pickle and kill myself that night. But it sure did get a lot of girls wanted to ask me out on dates. They all just said they wanted to find out if it was true. None never told me, to this day I got no idea. But I did have a good time in college. I remember calling home one time. which was 900 miles away and my dad saying it's 3am go home. I mean even I went into work drunk as a skunk. My boss was the meanest lady you can have as a boss. And everybody was like I don't want to work with her and so they gave me the job the promotion. I literally came into work drunk. The next day she calls me back into the office. She laughed and said it's about damn time you had some fun. It not only surprise me it surprised everybody. My friends used to joke and say I was like Forrest Gump.
