@Purin10235 жыл бұрын
@Enderguin58 The youtuber Sulfuric acid isn't really that dangerous to skin. Worst case scenario you'll get some pretty dry hands and a little stinging if it stays on too long. Its not like it will eat away at your flesh or anything. (At least not unless you're soaking your hands in it for hours at a time) Looking at the safety data sheet for pH down it looks like its only about a 10% concentration of sulfuric acid. That is pretty safe all things considered. Look up a youtuber named Nile Red. He has a video of him dunking his hands in a bunch of concentrated acids and you can see that they don't cause very much damage.
@SkyeRequiem0015 жыл бұрын
@Enderguin58 The youtuber It's really not very dangerous, dry hands are probably as bad as you'll get with dilute H2SO4, maybe have your skin peel if you're using it a lot. If you have particularly thin or sensitive skin it might be problematic, but that's the same story as a lot of "toxic" plants, in which some people have to wear gloves or they'll get a bad reaction and others can handle them freely without ever noticing an issue.
@ZinniaLP5 жыл бұрын

Additional tip for the pennies: If you find 1982 pennies, you can tell if they are copper or not by dropping them on a hard surface (like granite) and the copper will make a distinctive melodious ringing sound and the zinc ones will make a more clanking sound. You can make sure you hear the sound difference by dropping a pre and post 1982 coin. Also, copper pennies are slightly heavier (3.11g copper to 2.5g zinc) if you have a scale precise enough.

lol same here except hognose and ball python. I got a hognose about a month ago and my partner just brought home his new ball python last weekend. We got both from a lady who is downsizing her "collection" (I don't particularly like that word because they're living creatures, not like...stamps or pokemon cards). My hognose wasn't happy about the presence of cats, and the python didn't like being in the rack with the other pythons (who all seem perfectly happy in there, but miss thang was like "nuh uh! Get me out of here.") So we're trying to give them both living situations that they'll like better. So far, my little guy seems to be thriving. My guy's new little lady is doing a massive grump, though.

"Copper toxicity is a type of metal poisoning caused by an excess of copper in the body. Copperiedus can occur from eating acidic foods cooked in uncoated copper cookware, or from exposure to excess copper in drinking water or other environmental sources." That last part would make me nervous about doing it.
@kteztum51395 жыл бұрын
Copper isn't that dangerous in form of metal for animals. Shrimps and snails are really sensitive to copper cause of their blood. But simply by putting copper in water nothing will happend. You would need to put current through copper so it can ionize, to disolve enough copper to kill even shrimp. In low doses nothing should happend altough I wouldnt reccomend using copper bowls/tanks if you are keeping snails/shrimps/crabs.
@ScooterFXRS5 жыл бұрын
Copper pipes are used to deliver water in a LARGE % of homes in North America. So by proxy you have already exposed them and I don't think there has been wide spread deaths reported of any creatures. However when you have stupid people run low Ph water thru lead pipes, AKA Flint, MI, well you know the out come of that.

Interesting "hacks" E & E. I know some people will freak out about the sulphuric acid but any solution in water that is < 6% will not harm you for short interval contact, you have more to worry about from those toilet bowl cleaners [Not recommended ]. At worst it will dry out your skin. Citric acid would also be another great choice for lime scale.

Try to start with something small and calm, so long as your mother doesn't have ophidiophobia, a few good experience should convince her that her statement is silly(though no guarantees she will admit it). Also worth noting; if your place is large enough, dedicating a separate room to reptiles would make it very easy for her to visit without even seeing the snake, sometimes you might even see the enclosure and not realise there's a snake there, depending on the species and your specific snake. Hope this helps! PS. Based on what you said about how your mom said she "wouldn't visit" if you had one, I am presuming you don't live at home. If you live at home, getting any animal without your parents being ok with it is a bad idea.

Very useful. I liked it. Cool tricks like this are out there, just hard to find and slow to trickle out to the public - you guys blasted them out in a big way, thanks.

Purigin IS great but for those trying to save on cost and buy it in bulk, you ABSOLUTELY DO need a very fine mesh bag to contain it! The Purigen granules are very small. Enough to slip out of most generic aquarium media bags. Learn from my mistake people! Either buy it prepackaged like in the video or make absolutely sure your filter media bags are a fine grade mesh. Save yourself a lot of time, money and annoyance in the long run.

Is the PH trick safe for using in my crested gecko enclosure, the got the terrarium second hand and I spent quite a few days spanned over a month of trying to get hard water buildup off the inside with a 50/50 vinegar water solution and it worked okay, but id love to get it cleaner.
@gameoftanks65035 жыл бұрын
Sabrina Cozine it is perfectly safe, just remember to use a clean sponge with water to wipe off the cleaner once it has sat! I use it for my tanks that I buy used

The pH downer trick is a lifesaver. I've been trying to scrub those spots off my snake tanks for a while with no luck, they disappear while wet but just come back every time it dries lol. I'll have to pick some of that up so I can see into my terrariums again

Would the copper harm the reptiles though? Especially if it's over a long period. I know you're not supposed to use it in aquariums because it can be harmful to fish.
@FaultAndDakranon5 жыл бұрын
Robin Jabroni That’s the other reason to continue swapping water. It will leach slowly into the water, a little won’t hurt, but a lot of copper in the water would.

just try it this Friday, if she doesn't take to it i recommend trying to feed her frozen-thawed every other week, slowly weaning her off.

I want a snake so badly, my parents both are fine with snakes, but they just don’t want anymore animals in the house. So that’s sad :P
@vincetravis87015 жыл бұрын
Feels bad man. I wouldn't push it too much, but snakes take very little room (like really, my barely 5 inch turtle takes up waaaay more room than a corn snake or a ball python would) and they are pretty cheap to care for. I understand your parents tho. Mine are the same way with me, lol.
