hi! like many other folks on this thread, i injured my wrist boxing. I had a couple rounds of cortisone and ultimately was diagnosed with a TFCC tear, and had surgery in november of 2017. The ulnar side of my wrist and the repair seem to have healed nicely, but i have some persistent pain on the thumb side of my wrist, and constant popping when i push on my ulna bone. It doesn't seem like the ECU tendon, and there is no increase in pain when it cracks , but it's a loud snapping/popping. I had an xray a few months back and it did not show any fracture, and no arthritis. It did show, however, a possible scaphoid dissociation. I am at a loss on what to do, (tried PT for almost a year with little improvement) -- any thoughts? Thank you so much!

I’ve actually had this issue for about 10 years in my right wrist. I always assumed it was because I’ve been a cellist for the better part of 20 years and I’m right hand dominant, so I never pursued medical care. Dumb on my part. Anytime I move my wrist at all, it sounds like I’m crinkling a plastic water bottle. Not usually painful, but if I’m doing something with repetitive motion, it becomes swollen and painful. Recently I’ve been dealing with a rapid onset of carpal tunnel in that hand and now I am looking at surgery for that as well as repairing the damage in my wrist from the years of ignoring the snapping. I’m looking forward to having normal function of my hand again!

Thank you for the information. I have hEDS (hyper-mobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) 50yrs old and with this connective tissue disease condition, the older I get, the more issues I have. I’ve felt with snapping hip and scapula since I was 7 years old. It’s really bad now. Last year, my knees started the dreaded issue. Now it’s my wrist and it is so painful. My PCP said as I get older more things will happen. I am left handed so my left wrist is the worst. Repetitive motion makes flares worse. I have been using my hands a lot for 2 months, helping our daughter make her wedding flowers. So now my wrists are snapping. The indentation in the top of my wrists are more predominant and swelling is worse. I am going to look into a wrist brace and try to get this calmed down as it is extremely painful.

Yeah I tried teaching myself to box when I was like 16, I would bend my wrists when I'd throw hooks at full power on the heavy bag and wound up injuring them both after like a year. I don't think I gave myself much time to heal either and didn't go to a Dr., I was back at it within like 2 weeks but couldn't throw those types hooks anymore without pain. Fortunately I can still do things like hammer curls and throw hooks with proper form, but underhand I can't even lift a 25lb dumbbell. I wish they made some sort of lifting device which could take my wrists out of the equation during a lift. Before that I was curling like 60lbs with each arm.

I cured my subluxation using conservative treatment. My orthopaedic surgeon told me I needed surgery but the literature does say immobalization will fix this issue unless you have the rare Type B subsheath tear. I insisted to be put in a long arm, munster cast (this enables elbow movement while restricting pronation and supination of the wrist). Your wrist position in the cast must be in full pronation, radial deviation and slight extension (it is very important to be in this position or else it won't work). Do this for atleast 6 weeks. My cast came off and my ecu tendon no long subluxated. My surgeon looked annoyed that I proved her wrong haha Your surgeon wants to do surgery. This is how they get paid the big bucks. Insist on doing the cast for atleast 6-8 weeks.

I have subluxation more in the middle of my wrist from the tendon connected to the index finger(I tested it by holding out my fingers for each one and noticed when it actually snapped), it snaps up and down when pointing at myself and really makes it worse whenever I play basketball(which is constant snapping), do you think casting could help fix this or maybe my case may be different?
@jimrogers97094 жыл бұрын
@@MrIceDragon22 Try to find out the exact name of the tendon that is snapping and then search through Pubmed for the literature to see what the conservative treatment is. If it's a matter of a subsheath tear you may need to position your arm in a certain position and cast it in order for the tissue to reconnect so the scar tissue can generate. Try to get an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon. Going to the emergency room was the fastest way for me to see one.

I am still trying to find the answers to my wrist injury. Occurred in June 2018 not sports injury related. Been treating the pain on my own, finally sought out treatment. Went to a DO for neuromuscular skeletal manipulation, no bueno. Went to my orthopedic, " You have some minor ulnar impaction but dont think that would cause what youre describing. Possible TFCC tear. We can set you up for an MRI with contrast to see whats causing the pain. And I can shoot it with some cortisone." No bueno to cortisone, yes to MRI. MRI results "No TFCC tear, and I dont see anything that warrants surgery". Second opinion Dr, "MRI's arent always successful at showing TFCC tears. Only way to know what is going on is to stick a camera in there and see. And I can shoot it with some cortisone." Well ya see cortisone isnt solving the problem, its putting on a bandaid. I want the problem fixed. I was 100% convinced it was a TFCC tear. Greatly disappointed to find it was not, based on MRI. Now I come across this and having vEDS its quite likely thats what it is. Frustrating. Thanks for explaining about the ECU.

Mine sounds similar to this but I'm confused. My wrist hurt for only 2 weeks when i hurt it but its been months and it still pops when I turn it after a point. It hurt when i first injured it (by arm wrestling) but now theres no pain whatsoever. I work out all the time and can hold full weight on my wrist with no problems. Sometimes it pops with much more intensity than other times, but the only reason i want it gone is because it just bothers me mentally. Agian I train all the time, I even train my wrists. The strangest part is my left wrist developed the same thing but it went away quickly and even comes back in short intervals. Do you know what this is?

@@MrIceDragon22 No, it will fix the problem. The surgeon removes the diseased tissue and the incision brings blood flow and white blood cells which will build new collagen. So far, mines is a lot more stable and currently isnt snapping anymore. I stopped all kinds of activities for a few weeks and it has gotten more stable.
