You need to go pray for these people!!!!! I'm dying laughing at this. You are too funny Rob. A great local drumshop shocked me ( after 60 years experience drumming) when I brought him sn ols Ludwig Standard wood snare that I was just given because it had an "afterbuzz" in the wires. Sounded amazing, but the snares kept on singing a little too long. I know that I had everything setup right down below. He, in a split of a second said your batter head is the problem. It came with an almost new Emporer X black underdot coated. I was thinking that can't be right, it s the snares. But, he is the expert so I changed it out for a UV1coated. It instantly went to ZERO BUZZ. That guy is brilliant to know this stuff. I'm still shaking my head that he was right.

Hey Rob great advice. I had a snare with an annoying overtone that seemed impossible to tune out. The bottom shell bearing edge has a snare bed- slightly flattened where the snare wires sit. I accurately measured the height of the rim above the bottom head so it was the same height and tightened the lugs from there. Overtone gone 👍. I also check the bearing edges for dings etc. clean up with some fine sand paper if it’s wood. Some wet & dry if it’s metal. On damping try a Mylar snare strip taped to the shell with a felt pad on the top head. When you hit it lifts releasing full tone then drops to kill ring- good for mics live or recording. Great channel, thanks for all the tips. Best Wishes from 🇬🇧 👍

What a helpful video! Personally, I like to crank up the bottom head, fine tune the top head, then throw a sneeze ring on the top head.

I posted this on a previous video; how do you " crank" the bottom head? CHOKE IT! Then back it off 1\8 to 1\4 to get resonance.

Great vid as always Rob. I read; a few years ago, something about different alloys/metals that make up the hoops that affected the sound. Some are better suited for certain styles of music, etc. also I recall something about the 'bead' or edge of the drum itself that the head sits on affecting the tone of the drum. BTW, I loved Evans heads for my snare drums when I could get them! Thanks...

My Ludwig maple classic bearing edge on the snare side must have made by a new hire. The snare beds aren't king size they are emporer sized! The drum when put on a flat surface only touches 90 degrees from each bed. Try tuning that! One of these days I will send it off to be redone. Until then I do the best I can with what I got. That means crank it really high until all lug tuning matches. By the time the head gets there I think to myself, man these Aquarian heads can really take some abuse.😂

good video, Rob, per usual ... and the humor ... 😆 I'm in stitches always. What about the snare wires and the adjustment to tighten or loosen them? Too loose and it sounds like ... a bag of cats (maybe) ... and too tight and you kill the wires vibrating against the reso head at all. Got to be somewhere in the middle, right? Thanks. Got to get me that BPM shirt, by the way. like that.👍

Weird rattle? Check each lug with a quick shake. Fix by removing lug and packing with cotton balls. Re-attach lug. 🥁🤘

Rob, thank you as always 🙏 you changed my drumming life since I found you during covid. Question Is there a time frame for changing the drum beater on the drum pedal? I'm still rocking the ones I had for years now. 🥁🥁🥁

I know this is a snare video, but I want to ask you about toms for a second…is tuning the wrinkles out just for new heads, or do you clear the head and start over every time they need to be retuned?

I have one of those entry level kits you spoke of, question is, is it worth it to maybe get some pure sound snare wires and a better batter head or just buy a new one for $400-$500 ???

Cranking up bottom head kills tonality of any snare and also make it sounds tiny and flat. it is not about cranking up. It is about proper tension.

How about a ringing despite an otherwise good sound. And also how about a ringing caused by the sound of the higher toms.
@RobBeatdownBrown
@RobBeatdownBrown Ай бұрын
You can just slap a MoonGel or a Dot or a Remo O-ring to get rid of the excess ring. And the ‘sympathetic snare buzz’ caused by toms and often be tuned out by tuning one of the toms up or down. Or sometimes loosening the 4 rods around the snare wires a little bit helps too
