I've said it before but I really love this channel. Not always trying to stretch his videos to 10 minutes. His awareness of just how long he should talk about each game. The approach of truly being informative yet keeping it lively with unique observations and wit without either taking over the theme. The willingness to make a video about a game that there really isn't much to talk about but still uploading it anyway just so people who are trying to get an understanding of the game to decide if they will play it get the answers they're looking for. Actually being original because I've watched a good many videos about old school video games, probably thousands for real, and he manages to not come across as a clone of any of those dozens of other youtubers. And of course and perhaps most importantly, he always thanks me for watching and hopes I have a great rest of my day. You're a good lad snesdrunk.

When I was in the eighth grade, I went on a class trip to Washington DC. I was roommates with two other guys, one of my choosing and one that we got stuck with named Keith. Keith was an okay kid, but he had a way of rubbing *everyone* the wrong way. He told me before the trip that he'd be bringing his Game Boy and that I could play it whenever I wanted, so I took him up on that. I played WWF Superstars 2 (not as The Mountie!) on the second day, and I was so engrossed in this handheld that I'd never played before and in this wrestling game where I could be Jake Roberts or Undertaker, two of my favorites. I was enjoying playing during the bus ride, and Keith fell asleep in the seat next to me. I didn't pay attention to anything but the screen in front of me, so about an hour later, he's freaking out in the seat next to me. I look up and saw that someone had toilet papered him and put a bunch of trash on him. He started screaming "Who did this?" and snatched the Game Boy away from me, demanding that I answer him, but I honestly had no clue. He didn't let me play the Game Boy the rest of the trip.

I was always on the lookout for games that would overlap with my wrestling fandom, so I am surprised I didn't know about most of these; I was the first kid in my area to get a GameBoy, for Xmas 1989, but one of the last to get an SNES, for Xmas 1993. My parents got me WWF Royal Rumble with that SNES ..used to play two player with my friend, who also owned the game, and try to see how quickly we could work together to throw--->hip toss everyone out, before one of us volunteered to be tossed out. I also remember playing WWF branded games on NES, but most of them sucking, and only the "Pro Wrestling" being any good. I heard Tecmo was also good, but never played it cause I was all about game boy at that point. Patreon is probably the more deserving place for requests but, I've never asked before. It would be really cool if you could do a feature on "Balloon Kid" for GB. It's seriously fun...and seriously difficult. Started playing in 1990, didn't actually beat the game until 2010, 20 years later...There were lots of "enraging" NES games back in the day, but I was too young to know how to rage about games. This one was the first.

I loved Warzone until I played WCW/nWo Revenge. While I liked the WWE product at the time better than the WCW product, in terms of gameplay, Revenge just blew me away. It didn't have a true create-a-player, obviously, but you could customize existing wrestlers. For example, I had the game during the time in WCW where Rey Mysterio was beating the bigger wrestlers by kicking them in the balls, which I hated, so I made a variation of Rey called Gay Rey and had him beaten down in handicap matches all the time. The grappling system just felt so right, you could make nearly any kind of match you wanted, and the roster was huge. I don't think I ever played Warzone after getting Revenge, but then again, I rarely played Revenge once WWF No Mercy came out. That's still my favorite wrestling game of all time.

I definitely wasn’t expecting that last one. I love Beat-Em-Ups and wrestling, so I’m gonna have to look into that. Now, the question is how do we convince WWE and WayForward to work together so we can get another one of those? Imagine a WWE betrayal game in the gameplay style of River City with more characters. I need that.
@UltimateCarl5 жыл бұрын
Right? Especially after River City Girls, I'm just over here picturing a River City Ransom EX-style game where you can recruit a team of up to 4 other wrestlers through random events and dialogue choices and even include a create-a-character mode...
@shaggyturtlestudios5 жыл бұрын
UltimateCarl that would kick so much ass. The only question is which wrestlers would they include? I’ll admit, I stopped following WWE a few years ago. Only really watch the occasional Pay-Per-View. So I don’t know which characters WWE would push for in a game like that. Speaking of create-a-wrestler, I actually started playing a Super Famicom wrestling game called Hybrid Wrestler recently. And it is AWESOME. It’s by technos and while it’s not as good as their WWF arcade games, it’s pretty fun! Even has a partial English translation. SNESDrunk didn’t cover it in his SNES Wrestling games videos. So if he ends up reading this somehow, I’d love to see his thoughts on that game.

There was a retrospective on WWF games on KZbin years ago, can't for the life of me remember who made it, but he showed The Million Dollar Man's theme was taken from one of those cheesy Summerslam albums the WWF used to release every year with all the wrestlers desperately attempting to sing (Listen to Bret Hart's "It's hard to say goodbye" it's horrible and aazing at the same time.) But the reason he had a different song was DiBiase was walking into the ring in silence at the time this game was made. Same with Andre's being different in Westlemania Challenge.

Hard to say; "The Mountie" actually WAS a wrestler in the 90s, but I agree that on the Game Boy, it probably wouldn't take much to edit Sgt. Ah, Gameboy Attitude and Warzone. Two Christmases in a row were, well not ruined, but ended up supremely underwhelming thanks to those games. First year, I asked for Warzone on the N64 and received the GB version (which you'd think even non-gamers like my parents would have been able to tell weren't at all comparable). Dutifully played it enough to seem grateful, but man was it bad. The next year, I had Attitude on the N64 already, so was fine on that front. Can't remember what I actually asked for that Christmas, but it was definitely not the crappy GB port of a game I already owned that played the same as the one I got the previous year. But, there came Christmas morning and I was handed a present that was clearly a GB game and I just knew it was going to be Attitude. Unwrapped it and was left thinking "oh, this again. Joy." (and yes #firstworldproblems, obv).

Wrestlemania 19 on GameCube had a similar weird career mode like betrayal where you beat up random workers, dock workers, security guards etc. With other wrestlers appearing as either mini bosses throughout the level or that level boss, the story is about ruining wrestlemania as revenge for being fired.

If you think Betrayal's story is silly, you should check out the story mode in Wrestlemania XIX on the gamecube. You work for Stephanie and go around weird environments like a construction site, the mall and a parking garage and beat up security guards, construction workers, etc to smash up the environment to ruin wrestlemania for Vince.
