My Dad is even worse.. he has gout and diabetes and goes on these fake "healthy" diets but eats so many calorie dense fatty foods and doesn't seem to understand that honey and natural sugars count as sugars too. It's unbelievable to me that my family can eat 3x more than me and then snack throughout the day and try to call that healthy. They buy the lower calorie (which usually contains more sugar) wheat breads just to pile meat mayo and fatty cheeses on them, eat way too much then they drink glasses of orange juice. And they're going on another "diet" but only after the holidays because I guess they decided they don't need to exercise self control whatsoever during set times. Whenever I tell my Dad he shouldn't eat this or that he just gets defensive or yells at me so not much to do there.

@@sophiefoster1311 The issue is that schools don't implement it either - In primary and secondary school that I went to in the UK they served french fries, pasta and pizza along with cookies, cake, juice and milkshakes. It was rare that there was a healthy option or even proper nutrition. Hopefully, it's better now. The food groups are also an issue considering they not only promote animal abuse and torture but the misconception that the only way to obtain calcium is through drinking a cow's breast milk made for a calf, which is actually completely barbaric if you take a step back and objectively view what it is - The forceful impregnation of female cows to then drain them of calf milk for humans to drink when in modern-day western society we can easily obtain calcium through plant produce. The whole education of health and food is outdated and food companies are profiting from making people addicted to unhealthy foods.

It's true, when you fall in love you tend to put on some 'love weight'- because if you're not self conscious about your body with the love of your life, you've got someone to cuddle in bed rather than going for a run/ to the gym, of course it's easy to let things slip a bit! When I met my fiancé and we got serious, I put on about a stone over a year. I lost it again after some clothes felt a bit tight, but it made me realise how complacent you can get when you're happy! 🤗
@eleanormason26475 жыл бұрын
@Shannon I think I worried less because I had someone who told me I'm beautiful every day, which made those little imperfections and growing lbs less noticeable. It took a tightening pair of trousers and bra to make me realise that I had put on some weight, and do something about it. I think if I'd been willing to spend money on a new wardrobe (can't really afford it, even when going to charity shops) then I might not have done something about it, as it's so easy to not really think about how much you're taking in, especially when drinking!

There is one thing I'm realizing the people on this show do get right and that's when they say "but my skinny friends eat/drink the same way I do so I don't understand why I'm gaining weight and they're not"....and they're probably right for that one meal a couple times a week. After watching these shows you realize that a lot of the thinner friends are eating similar things and portion sizes during their meals out or at dinner parties. The big people just aren't seeing that their thinner friends aren't snacking all day on super calorically dense food and having those massive portions at every meal like they are. There was another british show, just a one off segment I think, where they followed "naturally thin" people around for a few days and found that they managed to balance their heavier meals or nights out with smaller portions later or skipped meals without even really thinking about it. The thinner people were often eating and drinking as much as the fatter people during the social gatherings, they just made up for it later. I know when I had lost about 15 lbs after learning to not have chips and sweets or other processes snacks in the house, but was still heavier than I wanted to be without knowing why, watching these shows made me think about my snacking in particular and when I worked it out I could easily pick my way through 400-700 calories a day in just snacks and tasting the food at work (I cook for a living). After I started having more regular meals (at the very least sitting down to a lunch, which I had barely done in the previous 10 years) and cut way, way down on the mindless snacking another 10 lbs pretty much just fell off. Breaking the habit itself was difficult for sure because it was so mindless but I honestly never felt *denied* anything because I was still eating all of my favourite foods during mealtimes.

Lmao Worked at a gas station when I was doing my studies. I used to have a coworker who had a fairly hefty GF. Anytime I would hang out with them I would constantly hear "The patriarchy is making me fat," "Mcdonalds sells salads for more money than burgers, It's a conspiracy to keep us fat", on and on like that. To be fair when we would eat together his GF would barely eat anything. I was like maybe she just really does have some kind of disease making her fat. After working with him for a while I noticed a trend. She would sit outside and wait to pick him up from work, she didn't work herself so she would come and sit outside on her phone for hours. When my coworker would take a bathroom break she would storm in and grab handfuls of candy bars, like 10 of them at a time. She also bought tons of muscle milk for some reason, I don't think it was working. She would then sneak back out to her car and eat them all while waiting for him. Then it would be back to "everyone is holding me down, I can't lose weight." One day I casually mentioned it to him, asking what kind of party they were having with all those M&Ms. He looked at me so confused, I was like your GF just bought 10 bags while you went to the bathroom. He just sighed and said he had went on a diet with her a few months before so they could both lose weight. He worked hard to cut bad things out of his diet and just assumed she had a medical condition preventing her from losing any. This experience along with this show makes me raise my eyebrow at people who say they gain weight for no reason and cannot lose it. Some people do but not most. I'm sorry you don't get so big from breathing.

@doctorwarpspeed87795 жыл бұрын
@@taposherabeya7857 I would agree that the American food and beverage industry has consistently lobbied for things like larger portion sizes and recommending certain foods over other for monetary gains. Changing the food pyramid among other things. I disagree with the premise of cheap food always being unhealthy. I could say McDonalds sells burgers for less than salads and I would be 100% correct but this is a non argument. It only holds true if my entire diet is based off of what is available at a fast food restaurant. Even at the gas station I worked at this holds true, you can buy two packages of peanuts for less than one candy bar. Candy bars sell like hotcakes while the peanuts sat there lonely. I have lived the majority of my young life FIRMLY below the American poverty line, with no government assistance. I would have to count every single penny I spent. When I decided to lose weight and eat healthier first thing I thought was you have to be rich to eat well. I couldn't have been more wrong. I cut the junk out of my diet, limited portions to realistic sizes and tried my best to pick a healthier option. My budget was exactly the same and I was able to spend no more or even less on food than I did before. I'm not saying go to Whole foods and buy a bunch of organic crap but just pick healthier options, they are available. It takes work and I am very aware of how tiring life can be but less than a century ago non of these fast food options existed nor premade meals. It may be easier to get fast food after a long day but there are no short cuts in life. Taking the easy road is only cheating yourself, no one else. As far as poverty stricken areas having higher rates of obesity that is also true. Many factors are at play though, lack of proper food education and more importantly tradition. In many poor families food didn't used to be around in such great quantities and so readily accessible. We have an influx of affordable food in America, families that were once hungry are no longer. They eat large meals because lots of food means lots of love and good times. This story is more one of such great success in achieving food stability that we are bursting at the seems. No longer is the challenge finding food but rather resisting the urge to eat gluttonous amounts. I would rather have too much food but the times have changed and we must with them.
@SaltySirenFloriduh5 жыл бұрын
Taposhe Rabeya except healthy foods that you prepare yourself aren’t more expensive. It’s the convenient foods that are expensive. Plus you have to eat more when you eat processed foods bc they aren’t nutrient dense so you end up spending more. People need to stop being lazy, figure out how to meet their nutritional needs with foods they can afford, and cook at home. It’s that simple. Also, if you live in a major city in American chances are there are stores (ALDI, Food4Less, 99cent Only Stores) where affordable produce and dry goods(beans, lentils, rice) are available and sold for super cheap.

It's hard to figure out the balance, and it happens to most of us when we get older. Good on them for taking positive steps to get healthy. I know that this show has to be showy, but the goal shouldn't be to shame people because that's how eating disorders begin!!

I get Murrays mindset, it was similar to mine until couple of years back. When you do high intense activity or play hours a day of Rugby and Football etc you can eat 6-7k calories cause you burn a lot, train in the gym and do a lot of cardio. Issue I had and I guess Murray did was that you continue eating the same thinking oh yeah you can burn it but issue is you are no longer doing the physical activities!
@IgnoreMeImWrong2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's the same issue that occurs as people get older in general. The body slows down and uses less but people keep up the caloric volume.

I was once in denial, too. I learned I had several misconceptions: 1.During a stressed situation, my eating time was the only time I allowed me to rest. So keep eating seems to me the only chance of resting just a little bit more. 2. I don't want to waste food and I was afraid of cooking to less. So I became the house pig and ate all the left overs. 3. During a fadding phase, I feld very weak. So unconciously I tried to strength myself eating a "proper" meal. I didn't realize, that I ate to much carbs and to less protein. So I always had a little food coma due to insulin, felt weak and hungry after a short time. Allowing myself to feel stressed and make pauses, just to breath. Allowing myself to cook to less or throwing away food in the bin and not first in me and then the toilett. And chancing my diet helpt me to loose weight and keep it of. And once a year rewatching secret eaters to adjust my eating habits 😉😁

I think it's emotionally harder to lose weight than it is physically. On November 3rd I started at a weight of 298.7lbs. I completely cut off sugar and carbs and I am now down to 297lbs, almost 12 pounds in a little over 2 weeks. But There's no point in eating in secret, sneaking food, cheating on my new lifestyle... no one is watching me, keeping tabs on me, and the only person I'm hurting is me--I think it took me learning that and realizing, truly realizing that as long as I stayed this way I won't be able to have what I want out of life. I've already wasted enough of my life. I'm 38, and I don't intend to enter 40 obese, with joint pain, hypertension, depression, constant exhaustion, and unable to do the things I want to do or have the career I want--I want to be a merchant mariner like my mother, who's in her early 60s and in way better shape than I've been my whole adult life. I also don't intend to have my mother lose her youngest to such a preventable thing as obesity.
