Aurora is transcendental. She wrote this song at the age of 11, BTW 👀. Another great song from this same performance is "Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)". It is heavy and haunting, but it's an experience I absolutely recommend. Also "It Happened Quiet (Live At the Current)" is absolutely amazing as well.

If it makes you feel better she tweaked and fined tuned her arrangement when she 15. But yeah, 11 year old. Edit: Aurora had said this was a gift from her younger self to her older and adult self. All the suggestions for songs are good including live being best but there are good artistic music videos as well.

While Murder Song is a very intensly emotional performance, I think it's kind of similar to her talent she showcased in Runaway. I highly recommend watching Murde Song but it doesn't really showcase her broad vocal range and styles. But it does demonstrate her ability to tell an intense story and captivate you in ways most artists can't.

Just as background, Aurora Aksnes is Norwegian, taught herself to sing and play piano (although she took dance lessons while still in school), and started writing music when she was about 6 years old and lyrics (in English) when she was about 11. Aurora was discovered accidentally when a high school classmate posted a video on facebook (without her permission) taken of her performing a song at a high school talent show that went viral locally. This, combined with another another friend’s posting of a recording she had made for her parents (so she wouldn’t have to perform in front of them because of stage fright) attracted an invitation from a local management company. She refused at first, but her mother convinced her to at least try. She writes, produces and performs her own music (with some long-time collaborators) and signed with that management company in Norway in 2013. Aurora subsequently signed with 3 record labels and began touring locally when she was 17. Since then she has completed three world tours, released 4 albums, and is now 27. Her voice is known to many as the voice of the wind calling out in the animated movie Frozen 2, and her ambient vocals are included throughout the Hans Zimmer score for the PBS/BBC series Frozen Planet 2. Her music has been featured in a number of TV shows and video game soundtracks as well. Aurora’s live performances are uniformly amazing and you have a lot of wonderful viewing ahead of you. Having said that, she is also no slouch when it comes to official music videos, which are beautiful and artistic (and she generally co-directs them). I’d suggest checking out the official videos of “Running With The Wolves” and “The Seed” from earlier in her career first and then her two latest releases “Your Blood” and “Conflict of the Mind”. “Running With The Wolves: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmfLpWyDrq9_ipY “The Seed”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX7GkIKDatSBd5o “Your Blood”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZy5hHl8lqlon9E “Conflict of the Mind”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYWpamSQoJ1_a9k Her must-see live performances are too many to list, but I’d recommend “Murder Song 54321” at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJmThIqKi9yLrtk “I Went Too Far” live at the Honda Stage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2Okoph-ZqyDqZY “Through The Eyes of a Child” at Nidarosdomen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJSqaq2Kr9icqac The entire concert is spectacular and her fans will gladly watch it with you again: Full Concert Nidarosdomen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYGbn4Khlr1orbc “ It Happened Quiet” live at the Current: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4aQf2mCpt-Xf68 “Soulless Creatures” live in Bergen, Norway (2020): kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXqYmZqen7qBq9U She also does amazing covers- two of the best are an NRK performance of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars” (accompanying herself on a Fender Rhodes electric piano) and her cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Believer” (which was a radio show challenge to create and perform a cover in under an hour. She did not know the song or the band but likes dragons which is why she chose it.) “Life On Mars”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXuTamiJZbKgpKM “Believer” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4TPeZRqlNWbq9E So, this is just a starting point and I hope you enjoy the journey!

“the soft place to fall” is her mother’s arms she said in an interview. She was just a child when she wrote this song. Usually her lyrics go very deep. Aurora is not singing to showcase her voice. She is singing to say something, to express there thoughts. The lyrics are the most important thing. She is a complex person. Often writes about very dark things. She is so similar to Ren that way.

@@teckreactionsBeautiful performance. The entire concert is amazing to be honest. There is another version of this song from when she was younger. It's sung acapella and it's probably my favorite (if I had to pick one). There's nothing hiding that beautiful voice except for the vocal harmonies provided by the background singers. Whichever one you do first, it's worth checking out the other at some point. Just search for through the eyes of a child vevo uk lift. Great reaction! 🙂

The one at Vevo is way better, she gives the feelings she really had when she wrote it, the one in Nidarosdomen is a little bit different, she was distracted or something, and also really happy, the feeling of longing the song is about got a little lost there, it's gorgeos anyway, but not quite the same as the one in Vevo.

You mention that she looks "shy" at the end. Aurora has a way of "going away" somewhere and taking the listener along when she sings. She has a way of "disengaging" the mic at the end of some songs as if realizing where she is again -- it's powerful to see how engaged she becomes IMHO. Also, about reserved power in he voice, when she unleashes in "Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)" (also Live at the same concert), it is gut-wrenching.

@@teckreactions She was actually very nervous she said in an interview after the performance. This was the biggest performance so far early in her career with ~8000 in this huge arena and TV cameras recording, and she uses her ability to loose herself in the music to "escape" from the scary situation, and then waking up to the scary crowd again after the song ends. During 2016 and later with lots of touring she learned to enjoy herself and interact with the crowd. I have 2 suggestions for next song: A pure a cappella performance with amazing harmonies with her band members: "Through The Eyes of a Child" (Stripped Vevo UK Lift) from March 2016. Or an acoustic performance with just an acoustic guitar and a backup singer: "It Happened Quiet" Live at The Current from March 2019.

In addition to the comments below about her own songs, she also absolutely slays covers, often making them better than the originals. 10:50 This is pretty accurate, she had just turned 19. She's a natural singer, but not a natural performer. This concert was in 2015. There's a video of her singing Life on Mars at a school-recital in 2014, with your average band put together with pupils from the music-class (and the teacher on bass). She was equally nervous and shy then (perhaps with better reason). It's pretty wild to watch that clip and realize; that girl would be singing at one of the world's most prestigous stage the very next year. Really hard to imagine if you didn't already know differently. She never intended to become an artist and didn't even want to meet the management she signed with, before she was suddenly matched with a band and sent on tour around that time. She started out as the warm-up for the band. By this time she had become the head-liner, but was still nervous going on a regular stage, let alone this monumental event. It's important to note that she considers herself a song-writer, foremost.

"A soft place to fall... a bed?"😄 Yes, could be, I guess.🙂 The thing with her lyrics is that they often can be interpreted to different level and still make sense, even a bit different. So it can be indeed difficult to grasp it, or them, in a first listening. They are open to interpretation, and she said that she enjoyed that people do their own, independently of hers. Some are more straightforward, but usually still having some sort of imagery. In any case, she really provides food for the entire brain, ears, eyes and neurons... Good grain for our inner mill, I would say. She's very creative, and her studio work is very thought and worked. Her nerd side, I guess. But to me her ways to perform live take her to another level. All what she pours in it, which can vary a lot but still be so mesmerizing, it's what really caught me, and many others. And her musical palette is very large (don't think you know her from only two or three songs), she doesn't stick to one genre. Variations in her repertoire of songs, in her performances of a same song (mood, tempo, instrumentation), a lot of beautiful surprises from her huge and gorgeous musical universe (I'm mostly metal, and... well...🙂). As comparison, if you wish, take the time to check out privately these two other versions, in exemple: - Runaway is the first song of: Aurora: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert (2015): kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6elmH-Nhtx0fKM - AURORA - Runaway at 101.9 KINK | PNC Live Studio Session (2022): kzbin.info/www/bejne/apPFpoVjptN5osk Anyway, thanks for reacting to Aurora, this astonishing and endearing Norwegian artist.🙂👍

I would describe Aurora's voice as the delicate dance of light and shadow in an enchanted forest. Her voice possesses an ethereal quality, drawn from nature itself. Her vocals cascade like a gentle stream, pure and crystalline, yet capable of swelling into powerful waves. With an otherworldly charm to her timbre, evoking a sense of wonder and enchantment. It's as if each note carries the weight of a thousand emotions, woven into a tapestry depicting a scene of vulnerability and strength. Aurora's poetry serves as the reassuring light in the window, gently guiding listeners homeward.

You guessed right😊 She is a Scandinavian. From Norway. She is also very Irish influenced. One of her main vocal artist influences from growing up were Enya. She has told that this song was written by an 11 year old girl being torn between feelings of grief and sorrow(She had lost her Godfather) and being home in her safe and well adjusted surroundings that she loved. Home and away at the same time. I believe many people can relate to that feeling. Perhaps that's also why it has hit so well all over the world?

hello!"I kept running for a soft place to fall" and "I saw piece of heaven waiting in patience for me" relates some how. Tired of running she's looking for a soft place to fall, to rest, to rest in peace, to die. She wrote that when she was 11. She wrote many songs related to death, I remember her saying she thought a lot about death and sad things even then in her early ages. One example that sadly captures a real life tragedy is "Little Boy in the Grass" where she sort of tells the story that got her even closer to those feelings of death, it's about a boy that was sort of a friend of hers when she was a little girl, the boy died in the Utøya massacre. the story told by Aurora can be found here in KZbin, really sad, just like the song itself.

I'm so glad that you decided to give Aurora a listen! Her vocal control is astonishing and I love that she writes about things that you're not going to find in most pop music. Instead of the same old song where the singer is sad after a breakup, Aurora writes about things like accepting our feelings and struggles, building community to take positive action, or imagining that the mean lady living down the street is a serial killer. She's a very emotive performer, disappearing into the song. She collaborates well with others and does really solid covers. Aurora is the total package - singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer/arranger, choreographer, and an absolutely lovely human being (and she’s just 27 years old!). She will often perform her songs quite differently - sometimes with her band, other times stripped down to just her and one instrument, a cappella, with full orchestra, etc. - so it is definitely worth listening to different versions of the same song. Also, her videos are mini-masterpieces as well. A short list of original songs: Runaway - Nobel Peace Prize concert and her music video Through the Eyes of a Child - Nidarosdomen concert, my recommendation Live Stripped - VIVO UK Lift It Happened Quiet - Nidarosdomen concert, but I'd recommend the live at The Current version as well Churchyard - Live on KEXP Winter Bird - Nidarosdomen concert and her music video Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 - Nobel Peace Prize Concert Lucky - Nidarosdomen concert Little Boy in the Grass - Nidarosdomen concert The Seed - Music Video, HAIK Concert The River - Music video, Live in Bergen 2020 Exist For Love - Music video, Daydreamer - Music video She also does some awesome covers: Life on Mars - David Bowie Believer - Imagine Dragons God is a Woman - Ariana Grande Across the Universe - John Lennon Teardrop - Massive Attack Rasputin - Boney M And of course anything from her latest album “The Gods we can Touch” which is pure gold!

If you're looking to experience something new along the same vein (and huge jackpot for reactions) I suggest Ado - "Show", "Crime and Punishment", "Unravel" "Aishite Aishite Aishite" .... Lots of stuff by one of the best vocalists performing right now.

Great reaction ! Subscribed. Lots of good suggestions for more and there is a lot to choose from, my own five Aurora playlists has 235 cuts ... and there must be maybe 100 more interviews and several hundred live cuts, she has been around touring quite a bit - N.America, S.Amerika, Asia, Oceania, Europe, Norway. She is doing a Norway tour now and people are flying in from over 50 other countries to go on one of these concerts, which I find quite remarkable. I want to recommend the Apple Tree and the Queendom music videos where she also dance in addition to singing. Another band you might like is Madrugada, maybe start with 'Nobody Loves You Like I Do' - kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4vGYmmro8iqpLMsi=50PWAyC5XjO0EPR8 their catalog is also huge.

Aurora is a very special & unique singer from Norway (you were right to guess Norse). She was very young here and she does like to sing barefoot. I want to introduce you to another amazing young singer from Norway called Angelina Jordan. She also sings barefoot, but for an entirely different reason that her fans (Angels) will tell you about. She is primarily a jazz singer and started very young winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 yrs. old. She is now 18 and just performed her latest concert in Las Vegas. She also sang at this year's Nobel Peace Prize Concert singing "Unchained Melody." I'll give you a link to that and a 2nd link to her singing "I Put a Spell on You" a masterpiece at 9 yrs. old. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqnHpnqJn6Z9edE and m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKipnaJ5hb2tedU She has lots of covers (200+) and 12 originals. Released a new EP with 6 songs under Republic Records.

Are you saying Ren isn’t tender?!? 😂. I think the Murder 5,4,3,2, 1 live is good also. I personally love her official video of this song better.

I don't know if this has been commented already, but if you get copyright strikes for Ren videos, contest the strike saying you have permission to critique his art and Ren's yt contact should clear it

Matt - while I always enjoy your reviews, you really need to do your homework on the performers, before you do the reaction reviews.

Not really. Doing “homework” isn’t required for authentic reactions. I prefer to come in fresh. The community does an amazing job answering questions along the way.
