So You Wanna Catch A Swarm Of Bees?

Have you ever been interested in shaking a swarm of honey bees? Lots of folks are doing so these days or are interested in doing so.
In this video I talk about how to go about it & the fact that you don't really need fancy equipment to temporarily house a swarm of bees.

Hello Mr. JP, glad to see you! Praying everything is going well. As one of who has anaphylactic reactions to all venom, I garden in a veil, long sleeves, long pants, keeping myself as safe a possible. My garden needs pollenators, but I am learning more about bees so I can decrease the likelihood of getting stung.

@JP I catch and release colonies(swarms, I should say), all the time, here in Florida, to keep them from being sprayed. It's funny as hell, because, many freak out as I'll scoop swarms, by hand, most times. They will ask questions, and I almost ALWAYS point them towards your channel, to learn MORE, after our "small talk." (Beyond, telling them. "Honeybees are normally too damned busy, to bother worrying about stinging YOU.")(And lightly explaining, why, and how they LIVE... depending on real interest...(my favorite was, when the family that was visiting their grandparents, came out, and all the children were asking and seriously curious, I explained as well as I could, (even had ONE brave enough, to reach in and get a handful, for herself, after watching and listening) while gathering the swarms (there was two) and pointed the whole fam-damnly towards your channel.)

I started bee keeping this year here in the UK, I bought my first box of bees on Saturday and transferred them to my brood box today, was amazing! watched them fan near the entrance, saw the queen, saw brood and drone cells....fabulous and very fascinating, did it all on my own with no one around..

I'm not a beekeeper, and have only seen one swarm. I was on a walk at work, and a friend and I happened to notice a ball of bees on a tree. We just watched it for a while. Although it was a few years before I ever happened across bee videos on YT, I kind of regretted not telling security and/or the local wildlife guy to see if they knew anyone who could use a swarm.

The best swarm lure I have ever used is swarm commander. I caught 20 hives in one year in NC. The first time I used it, I spayed it in a new trap box that i was building. It was out on the porch to let the camo paint dry, and a swarm flew into it. I've used lemon grass, and other attractants, swarm commander was the best. You can also use it to make a swarm go into a box, especially if its in a hard to reach place. Spray the box, get it close and the bees will get confused and leave the queen and go into the box. they queen will follow. I do this when swarms are 40' in a tree. Spray a box, throw a rope over a upper branch, pull the box close, they will go in.
