I actually loved what happened there. When the kid is free (5:45) she runs towards the water, confirming to her kid that he/she is going the right way. When the kid is deep enough and is not being followed (6:02) she goes towards the group (safety for herself I thought) but then she tells another youngster, maybe another kid of her, to go to the safety of the water too and he/she jumps straight in (6:09). Good mother instinct :)

It was rusting away, that's why it snapped fairly easy. His neck would of broken it as he grew but probably would have rusted and gotten very weak and fallen off in just another month or so in that salt water. It's the plastic and rubber that are the killers because the salt water wont rust those away of course.

@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism It was a cast iron piston ring. Cast iron is fairly brittle when pulled apart like it was, but they are strong enough to survive inside an engine holding the combustion gases in. I still feel that it wouldn't have done the seal any good.

@debbiehenri7170
@debbiehenri7170 3 жыл бұрын
@ZeR0's BuLlEt Also, how would you monitor the illegal dumping of trash in the ocean - whether it comes from fishing boats or oil rigs or any other commercial marine venture? It's not practical to label, book and check every spare part or oil drum on and off board, and there are no deposit return schemes to encourage the return of waste mechanical parts, etc. Not that deposit return schemes work 100% anyway, but it would certainly be in the interests of smaller fishing boats. A local farmer just dumped an old tractor engine in the river near me. Didn't want it - just rolled it in. Didn't care. The council haven't got the machinery to pull it out (or the money to hire some), so it's been there a couple of decades now. Humans are a filthy blight, and way too few take the time and trouble to make a go of looking after this planet and the creatures and plants upon it. It's pleasing to see there are young fellows like these helping seals (and other animals), and knowing there are a few other groups out there doing the same. But they do this mostly voluntarily - while we all have to 'pay' for those products caught and shipped by the swines who dump this very junk in the oceans in the first place. That's why I'm more mindful about where the things I buy come from now.

Well with good binoculars, amazing team work, lots of experience, and a lot of luck.There are normally at least 3 rescuers scanning the same group of seals. Sometimes it is the body language of the seal that first catches our attention, often an entangled seal is very wary and skittish, presumably due to being in pain and unable to free itself of the entanglement. Sometimes it is the sunlight catching the tiny thread poking out from its neck. Once we have all focused on the seal and agreed that we believe there to be an entanglement one of us doesn't take their eyes off of it while the others prepare for the rescue. We often lose track of an individual in a large group of fleeing seals, but in most cases at least one person is able to guide the one with the net if need be.

That metal ring looks like a piston ring from an engine. The company I work for rebuilds and repairs boat and ship engines and whenever we do it on ship we take all our rubbish and old engine parts away with us for disposal at our yard. The metals go in skips for the scrapyard, paper and plastics get made into bales for recycling and the old engine oil gets collected by a company and is taken away and its recycled as well. We do a lot of work on the docks and often we find plastic bottles and stuff and now I pick all the rubbish that isn’t ours and put it in bags for recycling or disposal. Watching your videos of rescuing the seals and helping them has somewhat educated me on the problems of rubbish in the oceans and seas and I make sure that all rubbish is taken away even if it’s been left on the dockside by other companies. Well done OCN !

I'm guessing a lot of these new entanglements could be pulled off their heads, but they can't do it themselves with their flippers and it's hard for the humans to avoid going near their mouths. Gotta avoid their cute little ears too.

I live on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Santa Catarina state. Brazil. Same latitude as Namibia and here it doesn't have so many seals. Beautiful beaches and people who respect nature. Good Job!

Well spotted, Naude! Don't know how you saw that gasket against the pup's fur. First time I have seen a mom waiting while you worked to free a pup. I have wondered if you ever had to deal with an angry mama seal! More great work, guys! Thank you again for helping these beautiful creatures!

Great job with the "Trifecta" here guys. The solid open ended metal ring looked almost like a piston ring from a diesel. Thank you for all that you do with these ongoing rescues.

It's frustrating and infuriating that people are being so careless or lazy to remember we need to stop polluting the land air and sea....its our only home...and the beautiful creatures that swim our oceans are paying the price.....and seals are so cool ! Thanks for caring and helping these critters ! Stay safe !

So much to love in this one guys..the little dude at the end, being all tough and spicy..but his mama was waiting for him and he runs her way bless him. The amount of ground you two covered on this one.. Good grief I was about to put the kettle on to make you both a coffee.. And I'm in the UK!!! Thank you both for the amount of lives you save and for sharing that with us. Keep safe and take care please. x💜🇬🇧💜x

Was pleased to see how you snapped the piston ring - never to be able to trap any other animals again. Keep up the excellent work.
